2 We Love Our Parks Mission & Rules Your Mission: A team of at least 2 people must register before June 30, 2013 with Carroll County Recreation & Parks. Once registered your team will receive an OFFICIAL Mission Booklet. Completed Mission Booklets must be submitted back to Recreation and Parks no later than August 9, Your team must designate a mission control Captain and submit a team photo. Your team s mission is to visit the 5 designated county parks. All park sites are self-directed, are free to enter, and are open dawn to dusk. You can complete the park missions in any order. To finish the mission, you must complete each challenge including the picture of your team. Park is on your left at end of road. Cape Horn Park, 2500 Cape Horn Road, Hampstead, MD. From Rt. 97 left onto Rt. 140 West, bear right onto Rt. 27 North, approximately 9 miles, turn right onto Rt. 30, 2 miles turn right on Cape Horn Road. Park entrance on right. Deer Park, 637 Deer Park Road, Westminster, MD. From Rt. 140 East turn right onto Rt. 97 South approx. 3 miles to Rt. 32. Turn left onto Rt. 32 to Deer Park Road, turn left onto Deer Park Road. Park entrance on right ¼ mile. Double Pipe Creek Park, 7577 Middleburg Road, Detour, MD. From Rt. 140 West, turn left on Route 31; turn right onto Uniontown Road, continue through Uniontown (becomes Middleburg Road) to Detour. Park is on left at County line. Freedom Park, 100 Raincliffe Road, Sykesville, MD. From Rt. 140 East turn right onto Rt. 97 South approx 3 miles to Rt. 32. Turn left onto Rt. 32 (20 miles) turn left at Raincliffe Road. Park entrance is on right one half mile. Hashawha/Bear Branch Nature Center, 300 John Owings Rd. Westminster, MD. From Rt. 97 turn left onto Rt. 140 West, bear right onto Rt. 97 (Gettysburg) at approximately 4 miles turn right onto John Owings Road. Left into the Park at sign and right up the hill just prior to the off-limits gate. Bear Branch is on your right. Mayeski Park, 1300 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD. From Rt. 140 East turn right onto Rt. 97 South to Rt. 26 approx. 12 miles, turn right onto Rt. 26 West. Park entrance will be on the right just past South Carroll High School. Follow road next to Stadium. Piney Run Park, 30 Martz Road, Sykesville, MD. From Rt. 140 East turn onto Rt. 97 South approximately 12 miles to Rt. 26. Take Rt. 26 East 1.5 miles to White Rock Road where you will turn right. Follow approximately 2 miles to left on Martz Road. Park is at the end of the road. (Fee $) Westminster Community Pond, From Rt. 97 turn left onto Rt. 140 West and travel approx. 2 miles to park entrance on your right just prior to the Rt. 97 exit.

WE LOVE OUR PARKS Mayeski Park Your Mission: Locate musical instruments at the playground and play a tune! Count and go down all # slides and seek out the (fruit) next to the climbing wall. Take a walk up to Ronnie Legore Memorial Field. Can you find Ronnie s motto? It takes the game. 6 Bear Branch Nature Center Your Mission: At the Nature Center, count the number of turtles in the exhibit hall, find and say hello to Max, a and don t miss the big egg, you can check it off your A to Z list. Collect items from nature and arrange them in the shape of a heart, and include that in your team photo below. Dip your toes in the stream if you dare. *10 extra credit points for team picture in stream. Mission: How many breads of dogs can you list from the park today?
