4 Christmas Tree Trail Sunshine Coast Council s regional Christmas Tree Trail will dazzle and delight with 22 trees lighting up progressively throughout the region. Environmentally friendly light emitting diode (LED) lighting is used across all of the council-decorated trees keeping with council s vision for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia s most sustainable region vibrant, green and diverse. Decorated trees include hoop, bunya, lilly pillies, f g, jacaranda, Norfolk pines, swamp and paper gums. 6 What s on this Christmas Lights, trees, carols, Santa! This year the Coast lights up with more than 50 family-friendly Christmas events taking place across the region. Carols by Candlelight are great places to come together with others in the community. Which ones will you be going to? 28 November Nambour Christmas Street Party, 3.30pm-9pm Nambour Town Square, Nambour Nambour s Christmas Street Party marks the start of the town s festive season celebrations with the lighting of the tree, music, entertainment and markets in the town square. Mountain Creek State School Community Carols, pm Mountain Creek State School Oval, Mountain Creek The school will run the community carols with a sausage sizzle, hamburgers, hot chips, snow cones, drinks and gift stalls. Cafe Connect will sell coffee and cakes. A big program is planned with all the students singing songs. 29 November North Shore Community Christmas Celebration, 10am-2pm North Shore Community Centre, Mudjimba org Christmas celebrations, fun and festivities; including face painting, food, arts and crafts, entertainment and Santa will arrive by helicopter. Coolum Beach Flicks - Outdoor Movies Screening of Rise of the Guardians, 6.30pm Tickle Park, Coolum Beach A free outdoor movie screening of Rise of the Guardians, in conjunction with the Coolum Beach Christmas Tree lighting. 3 December Light The Lights, 6pm-7pm Mapleton Lilyponds Park, Mapleton The Mapleton Choir performs a program of Christmas songs. There will be a free sausage sizzle and Santa will give gifts to local children. The Christmas tree lights will be lit be the local councillor. My Music, My Life by Kamahl 11am The Events Centre, 20 Minchinton Street, Caloundra My Music, My Life, is about the music and the people that created Kamahl. 5 December Senior Citizens Christmas Party am-2.30pm Lake Kawana Community Centre, Bokarina Senior citizens and people with disabilities will be treated to a VIP Christmas celebration. Guests are picked up from their homes and taken to the centre to enjoy a day of entertainment, a light lunch and gifts. 7 PIC: ALAIN BOUVIER 7 December Lights on the Lake, 4-8pm Crummunda Park, Wurtulla lights-on-lake/ Lights on the Lake is a free outdoor community event on the shores of Currimundi Lake. There are four hours of live entertainment, supervised children s activities, arts and craft stalls, community information stalls and great food. Decorate your canoe or kayak with Christmas lights and you could win a prize. The evening ends with a beautiful parade of boats around Currimundi Lake, lit up with Christmas lights. Alex Community Christmas Celebration, 4-8pm Buhk Family Park, Alexandra Headland The fun, free community event is being organised by the Alex Community Association in partnership with The Alex Surf Club and local businesses. It features music and children s rides. The Alex Christmas Tree will be lit after Santa arrives by boat. The night f nishes with f reworks. Palmwoods Green Bush Christmas 5-7pm Palmwoods State School, Woombye-Montville Road, Palmwoods Christmas crafts, sausage sizzle and games followed by a carols concert. Sunshine Coast Choral Society - Christmas Oratorio, 2.30pm Lake Kawana Community Centre, Bokarina The Sunshine Coast Choral Society presents Bach s Christmas Oratorio, conducted by Adrian King, accompanied by The Choral Society Orchestra and led by Trish Corben. Toy Run 2014, meet from 7.30 am Stockland Shopping Centre, Caloundra Ride starts at Stockland Shopping Centre and ends at Ramada Marcoola Beach. 10 24 December Kenilworth Christmas Eve Celebration 2014, 5pm-9pm Kenilworth Show Grounds, Kenilworth Santa arrives at 7pm. Free rides, Christmas carols, barbecue. Santa Comes to Mooloolaba, 5.30pm Mooloolaba Beach, Mooloolaba Before Santa embarks on his annual journey around the world he will stop in at Mooloolaba Beach to visit all the good boys and girls of the Sunshine Coast. Santa will arrive at the beach on a surf boat at 5.30pm on Christmas Eve and make his way up to the tower throwing out handfuls of lollies. Kids will be given a last-minute chance to sit with Santa, get a photo and ask him for a special Christmas gift. This free community event is proudly organised by Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club. 25 December Christmas Day in the Showgrounds, 11am-3pm Ray Grace Pavilion, Nambour Showgrounds, Nambour A feast of food, toys, activities, waterslides and jumping castles. Everything is free. Maleny Community Christmas Breakfast, 8-11am Neighbourhood Centre, 17 Bicentennial Lane, Maleny Every Christmas morning the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre provides a festive breakfast for people who live in the town. It aims to address social isolation, build connectedness, relationships, and community capacity. The theme will be what does community look like to you. The Maleny Neighbourhood Centre hosts and co-ordinates this event, and local businesses provide food, supplies and resources. Goodlife Christmas Lunch, 12 noon-3pm Goodlife Community Centre, Buderim Everyone is welcome. Come along and join in the festivities on Christmas Day. There will be live music on the main stage, energetic DJ sets on the beach stage, carnival rides and buskers, roving and street entertainment, temporary tattoos, children s face painting and activities, food stalls and amusements and of course two spectacular f reworks displays (8.30 pm and midnight). This event is a safe, secure, fully fenced, alcohol and glass free zone.
