At the height of Cab Units, this was ALCO s foray into the market. The F designation meant their design and usage would be best suited for Freight, although the FA and matching FB Booster unit could be seen in service almost anywhere. Over 600, 400 of them being FA s, were built from 1946 to Many of these saw service, after being sold from their original purchaser. The Atlas FA and FB-1 will capture that rugged look of a road train fighting up a hill with a large assortment of tonnage behind it. PAGE 4

These would be known as the Greenville 100- ton 2-Bay Hopper. They could been seen in any type of service, hauling rock, ballast, dirt, sand, and even taconite ore. Their smaller size and 2-bay hopper doors made them very versatile for any service in any condition. Atlas offering of the Greenville Hopper features crisp lettering, durable body, fine end ladder and end details, and free rolling trucks. The existing cars at the time were often 70-ton specially equipped mill gondolas. The new commodity-specific coil-steel car were built with a 100-ton capacity using a trough frame and body. The early designs were refined during the 1960s and eventually Evans adopted a 48-foot length as standard. Production lasted well into the 1970s. During the early 40s the only ACF tank car that qualified was the 10,500 gallon high-pressure tank car. After the war, ACF set out to design a whole new car for the emerging industry. As a result the 11,000 gallon tank car was introduced by ACF in Many thousands were built up through the mid-1950s. The Atlas model faithfully reproduces this late steam/early diesel era tank car in two versions (with and without platform rails). The cars with top platform rails were used where there was no elevated loading/unloading facility. The cars without the top platform rails were often specified for customers that had access to elevated loading and unloading facilities. The smaller version was developed from the base design introduced by Thrall Car in the late 1990s.
