3 in buenos aires DESCRIPTION Students will learn about historic and modern human rights issues in Argentina with two to four weeks of intensive language classes and academic workshops. Each week students will spend half the day in an intensive Spanish course and the other half with lectures and visits to understand the context of human rights in Latin America. Students will also get a chance to escape the city at a local gaucho ranch to ride horses and have a traditional Argentine barbecue. SPANISH CLASSES Students will participate intensive Spanish classes (20 hours per week) at our Spanish language institute in downtown Buenos Aires. Classes are in the morning or the afternoon for 4 hours per day in small groups of an average of 6 students. Any level of Spanish is possible and classes will be with students of all ages from all over the world. HUMAN RIGHTS IN BUENOS AIRES The Program ACCOMMODATION Students will stay in homestays with local families. Each student will have a private bedroom and have breakfast and dinner provided every day.

Each student will have a private bedroom and have breakfast and dinner provided every day. All homes include free WiFi, sheets and towels, and are located at a maximum distance of 40 minutes to the school. CULTURAL ACTIVITIES Our school has an active social program that includes 3 activities each week. Here are a few sample activities: Tango Class A group tango class with one of our tango professors. Mate Tasting A cultural class about maté (local Argentine tea). La Boca Tour A tour of La Boca, the most iconic neighborhood in the city. Chocotorta Class A mini cooking class to make chocotorta, a local dessert. Recoleta Cemetery Visit A tour of the Recoleta Cemetery. Historic Walking Tour A walking historic tour of key points in the city. Museum Visit The group will visit a museum with a professor. AIRPORT TRANSFERS Each student will be picked up and dropped off at the airport by a private car for a safe and seamless arrival and departure. HUMAN RIGHTS WORKSHOPS Each week students will participate in workshops to learn about topics related to human rights in Argentina. From the military dictatorship from 77 to 83 to more recent topics, students will end the program with a complete understanding of the historical and modern context of human rights in Argentina: Human Rights Introduction Workshop: A lecture to introduce students to the topic of human rights as well as history of human rights in Argentina. Madres de Plaza de Mayo Workshop : A professor will give a talk and presentation about the Madres de Plaza de Mayo and the group will visit their weekly protest. ex-esma Visit : A guided visit to the largest clandestine center that was used to detain and torture those labeled as dissidents during the last military dictatorship. Parque de la Memoria : A guided visit to a sculpture park in remembrance of the crimes that occurred during the military dictatorship. orientation & supervision All students receive an orientation about AFS and the city of Buenos Aires on their first day. The orientation cover the activities and program schedule, transportation in the city, health and emergencies and safety. Students also have 24/7 emergency support.
