2 Diversify Your Portfolio by Investing in Conservation INVESTMENT OVERVIEW I invested in Patagonia Sur for three reasons. First, this investment is a land-backed security it s real and tangible. Second, my investment in Patagonia Sur is completely uncorrelated to any of my other investments. And third, I am intrigued by the concept of applying market principles to conservation.. Bill Lyons CEO (Retired), American Century Investments Our investors from Chile, the United States, and elsewhere around the world share the vision that investing in Patagonia Sur is good for their portfolios, their families, and the environment. 6 UNIVERSITY CONSERVATION CIRCLE Environmental Stewardship for Students Faculty Alumni Patagonia Sur s University Conservation Circle (UC 2 ) will be comprised of twelve universities from around the world that have a demonstrated awareness and distinction in the field of sustainability through internships and volunteer work, research projects, travel and excursions. UNIVERSITY CONSERVATION CIRCLE BENEFITS A native-species forest planted in your school s name will serve as both an offset for your university carbon footprint, and as a research area for students and faculty. Opportunities to engage alumni, faculty and parents in the school s sustainability initiatives. Exclusive access to Chile s fabled Patagonia through study-abroad trips, student internships, and faculty research opportunities. Opportunities for alumni excursions at The Patagonia Sur Nature Reserve that include guided fly-fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, white water rafting, sea safaris, and community conservation projects. We have resident caretakers, professional chefs, on-site sporting and safety equipment, and experienced bilingual guides available. Collaboration in both research, and in the development of sustainability initiatives, with other member universities from around the world. Interaction with the local community of Palena, in Chile s X Región de Los Lagos, on projects involving environmental education and stewardship.
7 Go Carbon Neutral: Measure, Reduce, Offset Carbon dioxide emissions (CO 2 ) are created every time we use electricity, heat our homes, drive our cars, take a flight, or consume goods and services. Collectively, these CO 2 emissions contribute to climate change, which is expected to cause significant detrimental ecological, social, and economic risks and impacts. OUR CARBON OFFSET PROGRAM Through Patagonia Sur s Reforestation and Biodiversity Project, we create carbon offsets that take action now to reduce or neutralize your CO 2 emissions. Following internationally recognized standards, we have begun to plant millions of native-species trees on our properties in Chilean Patagonia, which will eliminate CO 2, create sustainable local jobs, and improve the biodiversity of native wildlife. Individuals, businesses and institutions that want to meet their Green Initiative can purchase carbon offsets generated by the Patagonia Sur Reforestation and Biodiversity Project and thereby reduce their carbon footprint. Las Vegas Color Graphics is excited to partner with Patagonia Sur to offset our carbon emissions and to engage our customers in our carbon offset program by tracking Patagonia Sur s activities as trees are planted across thousands of acres in Patagonia, Chile. Heidi Bridges President, Las Vegas Color Graphics Instituto Forestal (INFOR) conducts baseline studies of sequestration rates and verifies that real carbon reduction would not have occurred in the absence of the project. Patagonia Sur plants native-species trees as part of a large-scale reforestation project that also benefits native wildlife. Project is expected to sequester 1.5MM tons CO2. CONAF (Chile s National Forestry Service) verifies that the trees are planted and maintained. Patagonia Sur has established a reserve plantation that duplicates 20% of all trees planted. In case of a fire, invasive species, or disease, this reserve will ensure that offsets are not compromised.
