3 FOREST PROTECTION AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
4 I- OVERALL OBJECTIVES: Protect effectively Cat Tien National Park and Chumomray National Park Protect the remain forest in buffer zone. Improve the livelihood of people in buffer zone to reduce the pressure of villager to Natural resources. To strengthen the Government staff from central to local level in implementation and management the development projects
5 II- THE BUDGET: World Bank: 21 million USD Netherland Gov : 6 million USD Viet Nam Gov: 5 Million USD Total: 32 Million USD
6 III- The Project Area: Cat Tien national Park: 42 communes, 8 districts, 4 province. (Dong Nai, Lam Dong, Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong) Chummomray National Park: 8 communes, 1 district, 1 province (Kontum) THE PROJECT PERIOD From: 1999 To 2006
7 IV- Sub components of project Community Development: Support community appraise their village by Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). Then plan the Commune Action Plan (CAP). Signe the forest protection commitment between villagers, community and the Park Land use planning and Allocation: Support community to make participatory Land Use Planning. Then allocated the forestry land to farmer.
8 Forest Protection: Forest protection contract: Forest enrichment contract Establish the forest protection group in each commune. Social Support Grant: Constructing civil works for community: roads, school rooms, electricity line, Support kind of agricultural materials for poor households Support cultivating technical training for poor households Establishing the social support fund.
9 Agriculture Services: Support the advance cultivating technique for community by training courses. Built the agricultural and agro-forestry demonstration models. Support the agricultural cultivating documents for households. Rural Infrastructure: Support community to construct the commune road, the irrigation schemes.
10 Project management: Held the project management training courses for government staff in levels. Establish the commune working group in each commune to manage the project activities in commune.
11 THE ACHIEVEMENTS Community Development: 42 CAP were planed and reviewed. All households in buffer and core zone signed the forest protection commitment. Land use Planning and Allocation: 42 Land use Plans were reviewed. Forestry Land were allocated to households
