Not too cold and not too warm. A season ideal for some action, like trekking, canoeing, or horseback riding. Up in the mountains you can start seeing some autumn foliage, how the color starts changing at the top and then slowly moves downwards. It also is the season harvesting begins. Potatoes, onions, but also apples, prunes, pears, berries, etc are the freshest. Enjoy picking fruits and enjoy the blessings of nature. Itinerary: Day 1: Chitose Airport - Asahidake Day 2 Asahidake - Sounkyo Day 3 Sounkyo - Abashiri Day 4 Abashiri - Shiretoko Day 5 Shiretoko - Akan Day 6 Akan - Tokachi Day 7 Tokachi - Sapporo Day 8 Sapporo - Free Day Day 9 Sapporo - Chitose Airport Abashiri Asahidake Sounkyo Shiretoko Akan Sapporo Tokachi Chitose Airport - 1 -

2 Day 1 Chitose Airport - Asahidake Welcome to Hokkaido! Meet your driver at the airport and drive to Asahidake. It is a Hot Spring (Onsen) Resort at the foot of the highest mountain of Hokkaido: Asahidake. Asahidake is part of the Taisetsuzan National Park, which is the largest National Park in Japan, consisting of three volcanic mountain groups. Autumn starts early, you will probably be able to enjoy autumn foliage mid-late September. Day 2 Asahidake - Sounkyo Take the Cable Car up the mountains and enjoy hiking. Many Rare species of flowers and animals can be seen. The view of Mt. Asahidake behind the Sugatami Lake is gorgeous! Drive to Sounkyo, the backside of the Taisetsuzan National Park and visit the Ginga and Ryusei Waterfalls, another very picturesque place. Day 3 Sounkyo - Abashiri Drive to Lake Kussharo, a lake that was created through volcanic eruptions. Enjoy Activities around this lake on this day! Ride on the horse along the lake, and take the canoe on the lake and enjoy the nature with all senses! For lunch you can eat BBQ with fresh fish and meat from the region. In the evening, drive to Abashiri to your hotel. The nice Onsen will heal all your tired muscles! - 2 -

Day 4 Abashiri - Shiretoko Enjoy some fruits picking in the morning. The cold winter in Hokkaido makes the fruits very sweet!

After fruits picking, depart for Shiretoko: This peninsula in the east of Hokkaido was chosen as a World Nature Heritage Site in 2005.

The whole mountain is steaming. Eggs cooked with the earth s heat can be bought here. For lunch enjoy Teshikaga Ramen, one of Hokkaido s most popular Ramen.

3 Day 4 Abashiri - Shiretoko Enjoy some fruits picking in the morning. The cold winter in Hokkaido makes the fruits very sweet! In September, you have the chance to pick prunes, plums, apples, nashi pears, berries and eat as much of them as you like! After fruits picking, depart for Shiretoko: This peninsula in the east of Hokkaido was chosen as a World Nature Heritage Site in Enjoy the day visiting waterfalls and beautiful lakes, be immersed in untouched nature! Day 5 Shiretoko - Akan Today, you will visit an active volcano: Mount Io. Feel the earth being alive. The whole mountain is steaming. Eggs cooked with the earth s heat can be bought here. Myths say that you have bad luck when you can see the surface of the lake Stay at Lake Akan for the night. Another famous Onsen town in Hokkaido. Day 6 Akan - Tokachi After driving through the big Kushiro Wetlands and enjoying the view, make your own seafood bowl for lunch at the Washo Market in Kushiro. With a bowl of rice, you can walk around in the market and buy your toppings of your choice at the different shops: Crab, shrimp, scallop, salmon, etc. Sounds fun, doesn t it? - 3 -

Drive to Tokachi, a big farm region of Hokkaido and enjoy the dairy products. Enjoy the Moor Onsen at your hotel. It is famous as Bijin no Yu which means Onsen for Beauty.

It really makes your skin smooth! Day 7 Tokachi - Sapporo Thanks to all the dairy farms around, the Tokachi region has several famous confectionary factories. Visit one of them: Ryugetsu. Which is famous for Baumkuchen. For lunch, try to make Soba noodles yourself, also from buckwheat from this region. Drive to Sapporo in the afternoon, and enjoy the night there. Many restaurants to enjoy! Day 8 Sapporo - Free Day Enjoy a day in Sapporo at your leisure. Apart from the many shopping facilities, you can also visit the TV tower, Clock tower, Sapporo Beer Breweries and more.don t forget to try Sapporo Ramen, Genghis Khan or Soup Curry at one of the many restaurants downtown. Day 9 Sapporo Chitose Airport Even the last day has to be enjoyed! Sapporo has many shopping facilities! Go shopping downtown before heading to the airport or enjoy the shopping on the way, at one of the outlet malls near the airport. In case if you didn t have enough, there is a lot of seafood to buy and eat, and Onsen is available as well
