1 Climbing Mt. Elbrus (5642m) from the North - 9 days Elbrus is a volcanic massif to the north of the main ridge of the Caucasus Mountains. The ascent begins from Djilysu and continues along the north slope of mountain Elbrus. The trip is not technically difficult but requires crampons and ice axe. Systematic programme of acclimatization is essential prior to making the ascent. The climb itself may take between 6-10 hours; the descent another 4-6 hours. The main obstacles are high altitude, fog, wind and cold. Top Russian mountaineers will lead this climb. This is less a technical climb than it is a test of stamina. With proper acclimatization and good weather, you can reach the summit. Best time for this tour: June September. This tour starts at the airport Mineralnye Vody. This program can be scheduled with flight from Moscow. Itinenary of 9 days Mt. Elbrus Climb Day 1 Arrive in M.Vody. TRF to the HTL in Kislovodsk(500v a.s.l.). Check-in. Overnight at the hotel. Day 2 Breakfast at the hotel. Early transfer to the Dgily-Su area at the northern foot of Ebrus( 4-5 hrs). Camping. Overnight in the tents at the base camp-1 (2500m a.s.l.). Day 3 - An acclimatization hike. Overnight in the tents at the base camp-1. Day 4 - Ascent of the base camp -2 (3700m) 6-7 hrs. Clients carry their individual things. 2 Day 6 - An acclimatization hike to the Lenz Rocks (4700m) 5-6 hrs. Return to the camp. Day 7 - Summit day. Ascent of the top of Elbrus(5642m)10-12 hrs. Return to the base camp-2. Day 8 - Descent to Dgily-Su (3 hrs). Transfer to Kislovodsk. Check-in. Overnight at the hotel. Day 9 Drive to Mineralnye Vody. Fly back. ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT Down jacket, GORE-Tex (or similar) jacket & trousers, warm trousers, warm mittens, warm hat, balaclava. Mountain plastic boots, crampons, ice-axe, harness with 2 carabiners and a piece of rope(2m). Backpack, head lamp. Sun-protection glasses and means of sun-protection for the face. Sleeping bag (for overnights in the Barrels), thermal bottle. For acclimatization hikes: trekking boots (or sport shoes) and rain proofs.
