Best known for the spectacular Oranges Battle going on for three days in the town s main squares, the Carnival of Ivrea is distinguished by a series of ceremonies: the star of the show is the Vezzosa Mugnaia, who symbolises freedom and is the heroine of the festival, accompanied by the General of Napoleonic origin... FROM THE WAR TO THE BIRTH OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC John Phillips ( ) was one of the leading photojournalists of the twentieth century: a prominent Life photographer and author of exceptional products during World War II, he took shots which have become out and out icons of the twentieth century. From 1986, Olivetti has dedicated a traveling exhibition of over 180 photos taken around the world between 1936 and 1982: the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti presents a careful selection of these, enriched by the original photo-shoot that Phillips made in Roma, from the rooms of the Viminale, in June 1946 after the referendum which marked the birth of the Italian Republic. All the photographs are kept in Ivrea by the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti, to which TIM and Olivetti have entrusted an archival heritage which includes over half a million photos.
