1 IRONMAN70.3 Saturday 1st April 2017 Also called The Dragon City, Liuzhou belongs to the northern edge of China's subtropical zone in north-central Guangxi Province. It is as much a well-developed, modern city of industry as it is one of culture, history, and natural beauty. The city consists of six counties and four districts, and its population is almost 4 million. Encircled by green mountains and embraced by the Liu Jiang River, Liuzhou is known as "The World s Best Natural Bonsai." It has been praised by Chinese poets, and named one of the most innovative, beautiful, and leisure-friendly cities in China. IRONMAN 70.3 Liuzhou will begin with a swim in the Liu River, cutting right through the center of the city. Spectators will have the unique opportunity to watch this point to point swim from the elevated banks of the river and nearby bridge. Athletes will then exit the water to the transition. Both transitions, IRONMAN Village and finish will be located in one location. The bike course takes riders to go out and back along the river for 35 kilometers then does a shorter out and back along the river for the second portion. Athletes can expect incredible views as they parallel the Liu River on this rolling course with smooth, clean road surfaces. The two loop run course offers the athletes a chance to see the scenes of the city as it will take them through downtown Liuzhou and along both banks of the Liu River. IRONMAN 70.3 Liuzhou will have 30 qualifying slots for the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship and 50 qualifying slots for the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship available.
