21 Narratives Subject: Sonic Type Date Time Author Approving Officer Initial Report 02/14/ HILTON, CHRISTOPHER J While Det Roesch continued with his investigation I followed up with the surrounding area checking for video. The information that we had indicated that who ever was involved in the fire left through a door on the north doors and ran across Ramada St. I responded to Wal-Mart and the Lost Prevention Officer was gone for the day. I spoke to her via phone and inquired if she would be able to check surveillance video on 2/12/2014 for Det Roesch. She stated she would and would been in the office at 1100 hrs. I then checked the area noticing that Sonic had surveillance video outside. I stopped and made contact with the manager Jessica Flory and inquired about the surveillance video. I asked if the camera pointed toward the America Best Inn and if so could I check the video. Jessica showed a several camera angels that showed the property of Americas Best Inn. I inquired about the camera that showed the north end of the building. Jessica showed me the camera, I asked her to play it back starting at approx 1845 hrs. Jessica played the video back and at approx 1703 hrs you can see subjects running from the north side of the building. The subjects ran across Ramada St and into Wal-Mart parking lot. The video showed two subjects. At this time I contacted Det Roesch and advised him of our findings. Det Roesch arrived and he was shown the video and spoke to Jessica about obtaining a copy of the video. Jessica stated she would speak to her boss about the video and Det Roesch provided her with his information and officers left the area. Det. Rotuno and I met with managers, Ms. Florry and Karleene Crecelius at Sonic. We were able to view the video and it showed the suspects walk from the Wal-Mart parking lot to the front of America's Best Inn, approximately 1828/1831 hours. They are outside for approximately a minute or two and then go in the front door of America's Best Inn, approximately 1832 hours. As stated above, the video then shows the suspects running from the hotel at approximately 1902/1903 hours towards the Wal-Mart parking lot. A copy of the video was placed into the electronic case file as it was recovered onto a flash drive. Page: 21 of 22
22 Narratives Subject: Expunged 2 Arrest Type Date Time Author Approving Officer Facts Of Arrest 02/14/ ROTUNO, JOSEPH ROTUNO, JOSEPH During the listed investigation we determined that Mr. Expunged 2 was involved in the listed investigation and warrants were issued for his arrest. Expunged 2 was located on Huron Avenue in Sandusky and was taken into custody. Contact was made with his father who responded to the scene and agreed to return to his residence and retrieve the Ushanka style hat that officers observed in the video. Officers located on Expunged 2 that he was wearing the same Cedar Point shirt from the video and his Nike shoes matched that of the ones in the video. Expunged 2 also was carrying the same backpack on him that was observed in the video. Upon checking inside we located a set of Flip headphones that Wal Mart advised they observed the subjects with but did not see concealment to make a stop. Expunged 2 s cell phone was seized as well and later placed into evidence. Paul Rickard responded to station and advised his son would need a lawyer before speaking with the police. Rickard advised that his ex-wife, Brandy Steible had not told him about any of the events that occurred. Expunged 2 was processed on station and was transported to ECDH by Ofc. Corbin. It should be noted that while being processed Expunged 2 asked if they other person was arrested. I advised him that his father requested he not speak about the incident until a lawyer was present. Paul and Charles confirmed Expunged 2 phone number of which was also earlier confirmed by Danielle Towner and Desmond Towner.
