11 PREFACE The fact that the 6th International Conference Standardization, Protypes and Quality: A Means of Balkan Countries Collaboration was successfully realized, is a definite sign that the effort of the Union of Hellenic Scientists for Protypation and Standardization (ENEPROT) to build a forum for standardization and protypes has begun to fructify. The continuity of these events is yet ensured. In fact, after a period of rummage and hesitation (the chronicle of which was written in the preface of the 4th International Conference Proceedings), two Conferences took place already. Now, in 2009, the 6th International Conference was realized again in the city of Thessaloniki where it has originated, more than twelve years ago! ENEPROT included in the 6th Conference procedure an award of prizes, an event that started been organized in In 2007 has been decided by the Board of ENEPROT that the prizes will be handed over during the National Congresses and those International Conferences which are been organized in Thessaloniki. In this way ENEPROT has an award event every year. The prizes for 2009 were: 1) Veneration Plaque for those who promote standardization and protypes and support ENEPROT activities, which was handed to Nikolaos Mousiopoulos, Dean of Polytechnic School of AUTh 2) Social Protype Award to those (persons, or institutions) that promote social protypes-models, which was handed to Konstantinos Giannopoulos, Ghairman of the Smile of the Child -Voluntary Organization for children 3) Quality Award to enterprises for caring and applying correctly standardization, protypes and quality, which was handed to Konstantinos Molfesis, Gen.Director of GATS Ltd 4) Special Awards for special activities to: a) Tomris Giritlioglou, Film Director, for her contribution to Balkan peoples understanding, and to b) George Varoufakis, Honorary President of Hellenic Organization for Standardization- ELOT. During this twelve year period of International Conferences on Standardization, Protypes and Quality we have all gathered a very important and reach experience. This experience could, by this time, provide the protypes of our conferences. The prescription of these protypes is a responsibility of the Balkan Coordinating Committee. As ENEPROT have started, though, this effort, we could state here the principles which guided us, all this way through. The first principle in the row is the main principle of standardization, the consensus principal, which is also the main principal in every democratic procedure. After the consensus principal, the protypes of the international conferences on standardization and protypes will be produced in common by all interested parts, xiii

12 that is by all the representatives of the Balkan countries. The evaluation of the submitted texts for the Conferences should function in the same spirit. Meaning that for the knowledge reported in the conferences, every source should be utilized: experiences, practical applications, as well as academic theories. In this way another principle of the conferences will be fulfilled, the principal of a complete scientific knowledge. A spherical knowledge, in all levels and in its broader sense, which will be written down in the ideal form of bibliography, as proceedings. There are basic hopes that the International Conferences Standardization, Protypes and Quality: A Means of Balkan Countries Collaboration will have a constant anodic course. The enthusiasm expressed by the Serbian delegation for the organization of the 7th Conference, strengthens even more this belief. Angelos Zachariadis Chairman of ENEPROT xiv

13 EDITORS NOTE It has been widely recognized that research on standardization, protypes and quality is of great value and quality is a vital factor of each human activity, The high number of participants in the 6th International Conference Standardization, Protypes and Quality: A means of Balkan Countries Collaboration highlights the increase of impetus given to standards, protypes and quality from both the researchers and practitioners. This volume of proceedings consists of a variety of papers on protypes, quality and standards that were presented in this international conference held in Thessaloniki, in October Emphasis was put on the benefits of the conference such as the exchange of opinions of researchers and practitioners from Balkan countries, the acknowledgement of research projects on the quality and standards issues and the opportunities for collaboration, comparative studies and analysis among the participants. Publication of proceedings is an important proof of this. In spite of the serious efforts of the editors of this volume to present a qualitative work, you may find some minor mistakes or imperfections due to the time limitations and the right of authors to express freely their points of view, notwithstanding the inability of some authors to write in English in a completely correct way.
