Tours offered by the Office of Tourism and Heritage of Lens- Liévin are organised within the framework of the Countries of Art and History organisation and led by trained and highly qualified guides to welcome you and help you better understand the landscapes, the development of towns and villages and their history. The Remembrance Trails of the Great War in Nord-Pas de Calais allow you to discover the history of the battles in the region during World War I through sites such as the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, also known as Ablain St.-Nazaire French Military Cemetery, the Ring of Remembrance, Vimy Canadian Memorial Park, etc. In addition, the Nord-Pas de Calais Mining Basin has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. We invite you to discover the major sites such as the mining pit and the 11/19 slag heaps of Loos-en- Gohelle, the remarkable mining communities, the old central offices of the Mining Company of Lens, etc. The Icoming/Group Service of the Tourist Office is at your disposal to organize your coming and is responsible for booking your guided tour, restaurants (breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner one choice for the whole group), your tour bus and accommodations. 4 product n 1 FEATURING NEW STORY OF THE GREAT WAR IN THE LAND OF REMEMBRANCE In a short time discover the Great War in Nord-Pas de Calais with a professional guide, through three major memorial sites: the Lens War and Peace History Centre, The National Necropolis of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette and the Ring of Remembrance. HALF DAY PRODUCT Lens War and Peace History Centre Standing at the foot of the hill of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, this new museum presents the Great War on the soil of the Nord-Pas de Calais, employing innovative museographic techniques (audiovisual, interactive models, objects in their historical context, etc. ).We propose to visit this new symbolic place, designed by the architect Pierre-Louis Faloci, accompanied by a professional guide. He will show you the different thematic: the war of movement and the trench system, the bloody offensives and the occupation of the Nord region, the 1918 offensives and death on the front, the ruins and the great reconstruction. The National Necropolis of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette and the Ring of Remembrance The hill of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette was a strategic promontory during the First World War. This site was one of the main theatres of battle in the Artois from October 1914 to October In 1925, a national cemetery was inaugurated which contains 20,000 individual graves and the remains of over 22,000 unknown soldiers placed in 8 ossuaries. The basilica and the 52-metre high tower, representing a lantern of the dead, the work of the architect Louis-Marie Cordonnier are of Romano-Byzantine inspiration. 5 product n 2 MAJOR SITES OF THE GREAT WAR FOCUS ON THE CENTENNIAL OF THE BATTLE OF VIMY RIDGE HALF DAY PRODUCT The site of the canadian Vimy Memorial The taking of Vimy Ridge by the Canadians in April 1917 was a pivotal episode in the battles waged in the Artois sector during the Great War. Accompanied by a guide, Discover the Vimy Canadian Memorial Park, a real tribute to the soldiers of the Great War, which was given as a gift to the Canadian people by the French nation. Standing at the centre of a 110 hectare park, this unique site takes the visitor on a journey into the Great War, in particular through the restored trenches, the war cemeteries and the imposing Memorial. Its magnificent white pylons pay tribute to the 66,000 Canadian soldiers died in France during the conflict and the names of the 11,285 soldiers with no known resting place. In April 2017, a lot of Canadians will commemorate the centennial of this battle. A new Visitor and Education Centre will open to show this important part of Canadian history. At the summit, you will discover the Canadian Memorial, the trenches that bear witness to the battles and the Moroccan Division Memorial before returning to the heart of the village. Please wear proper hiking gear. Sur les traces des poilus walking trail Starting from the War and Peace History Centre of Souchez, the guide takes you for a hike to explore the Necropolis of Notre-Damede-Lorette, also known as Ablain St.-Nazaire French Military Cemetery. You will walk through the woods following the footsteps of the soldiers of the Great War. Once on the plateau, the guide tells you about the landscape to help you better understand the characteristics of this strategic location. The tour continues through the tombs to discover the Basilica, Lantern Tower and the Ring of Remembrance. You then join the War and Peace History Centre by the Remembrance Trail set up along the main road. Please wear proper hiking gear. very hilly terrain The battle of hill 70 walking trail In August 1917, when the British army attacked Belgium near Passchendaele, the Canadian divisions created a diversion on Hill 70, located between Loos and Lens. Sometimes referred to as a forgotten battle, the Battle of Hill 70 represents a major achievement for the Canadians, as did their victory of Vimy Ridge in April Take a walk on the hiking trails of Loosen-Gohelle and relive the battle by observing the landscapes, discovering the new Canadian memorial on the old slag heap 15 and visiting Loos British Cemetery. The battle of Loos CENTENNIAL OF THE BATTLE OF HILL 70 Launched on the 25 September, the battle of Loos was fought by the forces of the British Empire, in support of the French army who were in Souchez and on the Vimy Ridge. Even today, the battle of Loos is still marked by a heavy human toll and the violence of the fighting, and was uppermost in Britains minds. This tour will help you to understand the importance of this battle threw many sites: the slag heaps of Loos en Gohelle which represented strategic positions both the Germans and the British, Dud Corner Memorial and Cemetery, Loos British Cemetery, the Dupuich farm where inscriptions were engraved by soldiers. 39 GENERAL AND SPECIAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE FOR GROUPS Art 1 - Definition Under Article L of the Tourism Code, the Tourist and Heritage Office of Lens-Lievin, hereinafter referred to as the Tourist Office, is authorized to sell tourist services under the conditions provided for by Article L.211 and following of the Tourism Code which fixes the conditions governing the exercise of activities relating to the organization and sale of travel and accommodation. It facilitates the activities of the public by offering a selection of services and by guaranteeing reliable reservations. Under no circumstances can the Tourist Office be held liable where its contracts are used by third parties or for purposes other than touristic. Art 2 - Conditions The client acknowledges having read the information relating to prices and other elements making up the services provided. Art 3 - Liability The Tourist Office offers the services featuring in the brochure Groups, for which it is the sole contact organisation, and is answerable for the performance of the obligations arising from these terms and conditions of sale. The Tourist Office reserves the right, where necessary, to amend the services and fixed prices offered. Where this is the case, the client will be notified in writing by the Tourist Office prior to signature of the contract. Likewise, the Tourist Office cannot be held liable for unforeseen events or force majeure events, or for the actions of any person not involved with the organization or the provision of the service. Art 4 Booking The sale of services or packages will necessarily be covered by a contract between the Destination Management Department of the Tourist Office and the client. A tentative reservation is not considered a firm booking. Booking is confirmed and definitive upon receipt of the booking contract duly completed and signed by the client, subject to availability and after payment of a deposit of 30% of the total amount of the service. The exact number of participants must be specified in writing at least one week before the visit. After that period, the last number of participants registered will be invoiced. All reservations imply acceptance of the terms of sale. A voucher (sent beforehand by the Tourist Office to the service provider) must be signed by the service provider and the group leader on the day of the service. Any modification of this voucher, if both parties agree, must be joined to the signature of the person in charge of the group and the service provider. For any extra service outside the contract, the group will pay the service provider directly on the day of the service (including if the group wishes to invite the guide(s)). A free service is offered to each bus driver as well as to each group of 40 people (only for services with partners such as restaurants, hosts and local products ). Meals: the Tourist Office will send to the client a number of suggested restaurants and menus, according to the client s request. The client will notify its menu choice and the detailed choice of dishes at least 3 weeks prior to arrival, and will indicate the exact number of people no later than one week beforehand. Beyond this period, the number of participants declared will be billed for. The quoted price is understood to relate to a single choice of dishes for the whole group. Guided tour Local products : the Tourist Office will advise the client the visit conditions (duration, capacity, prices, meeting points ) The client will notify the exact number of people and, where applicable, the chosen package, no later than one week beforehand. Beyond this period, the number of participants declared will be billed for. An exchange voucher (sent in advance to the partner by the Tourist Office) must be signed by the partner and the group leader on the day of the service. Guided tour of the Bollaert-Delelis stadium: The group will return the signed contract in order to confirm its booking. No deposit is required. The balance will be settled after the service, upon receipt of the invoice. Accommodation: the client will send a final booking list 30 days prior to arrival. The final list of names must reach the Tourist Office no later than one week before arrival. Beyond this period, the number of participants declared will be billed for. Coaches: coaches used for the coach tours in the brochure must be equipped with a microphone in working order and a seat reserved for the guide. The driver s statutory rest time must be planned, and must not be scheduled during the visit The legal rest period of the driver must be anticipated and must not take place during the visit, if so, all the content of the tour cannot be provided. The bus must imperatively bring the guide back to the starting point of the tour, unless otherwise stated in the booking contract. For circuits including climbing the 11/19 heaps of Loos-en-Gohelle, it will be up to the tour guide depending on the weather and safety conditions. Art 5 Late booking In case of booking less than one week before the beginning of the stay, the full payment will be required at once, when booking. Art 6 - Prices The prices indicated are applicable to groups and are valid from 1 January 2017 to 31 December They are quoted inclusive of all taxes. The client will be charged a supplement for visits on Sundays and bank holidays. A 25 supplement per guide per visit will be charged for guided visits in a foreign language. Prices and times are indicated for information purposes and are not contractual. Please enquire in advance. Art 7 - Payment of the balance The payment for visits is settled upon invoice at the Tourist Office. The client must pay the agreed and outstanding balance for the service no later than the day on which it is provided. Any settlements from abroad may incur bank charges; these are at the expense of the client. Art 8 Late arrival Should the group arrive late, the visit will be curtailed and will therefore finish at the time indicated on the booking contract. It may be extended at the request of the client,subject to the availability of guides or other service providers, and will be charged at the rate of one additional hour of guided service. Late arrival or early departure will not give rise to any refund. Art 9 - Cancellation due to the client Any partial cancellation must be sent to the Tourist Office in writing within 7 working days (from Monday to Friday) of the service before midday (see conditions Art. 4). Full cancellations must be communicated in writing to the Destination Management Department of the Tourist Office at least two weeks before the scheduled tour date. After that period, cancellation fees will be imposed up to: - 30% of the service for a cancellation made within 14 days - 75% of the service for a cancellation made within 7 days - 100% of the service for a cancellation made within 48 hours Special conditions apply when booking a guided tour at the Louvre-Lens Museum: in case of cancellation within 21 days of the service, the reserved time slots will be invoiced automatically whenever the group confirms its reservation of time slots in writing, up to 100 per slot reserved (group of 20 people maximum), as stipulated in the museum s terms of sale. The group must inform the Tourist Office in writing within 21 working days (Monday to Friday) of the service, before midday.. Special conditions apply when making reservations for accommodations: a cancellation fee will be imposed up to: 50% of the service for a cancellation made within 30 days, 75% of the service for a cancellation made within 14 days and 100% of the service for a cancellation made within 7 days. Art 10 - Cancellation due to the Tourist Office Where the Tourist Office cancels the service before it starts, it must notify the client in writing. Where the client is not at fault, all sums paid by the client will be refunded. Art 11 - Complaints In order to be admissible, all complaints must be sent to the Tourist Office, by registered letter accompanied by any supporting documentation, within 7 days of the returndate. Failing this, the trip will be regarded as having taken place in a satisfactory manner. Art 12 - Damage The client is liable for all damage which is attributable to it. The client is urged to take out a public liability insurance policy. Students are under the responsibility of accompanying adults. No disturbances will be tolerated under penalty of prosecution. Art 13 - Insurance and public liability The Tourist Office has professional public liability insurance which covers personal injury and material and indirect damages as might be caused to participants following any failing in its services/allianz IARD, 87 rue de Richelieu, Paris.
