3 Art & Design Joan Miro Founda on The founda on houses the permanent exhibi on of more than 217 pain ngs, 8,000 drawings, 178 sculptures, tapestries and all graphics by Joan Miró. White walls, rus c le floors and an elegant system of roof arches make this one of the worlds greatest museum buildings. Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona Opened in 1995, the MACBA seeks to bring contemporary art to a wider audience through its Collec on. MACBA invites visitors to explore current social, economic and poli cal dynamics through modern and contemporary art. The genius of the young ar st is revealed through the more than 4,000 works that make up the permanent collec on. 4 Casa Mila La Pedrera The last apartment house built by Antoni Gaudi, the Casa- Mila (or stone quarry as it is affec onately known) is considered the epitome of Modernism with its impressive façade of undula ng stone and iron balconies. There is an accompanying exhibi on, Espai Gaudi for English guided tours. Parc Guell This park is based on the design of garden ci es in England and is a classic representa on of Gaudi s ideas. At the centre is the Great Esplande, with an undula ng bench covered in some of the finest examples of trencadis (broken mosaic work) mostly by Gaudis overshadowed assistant Josep Maria Jujol. Casa Museu Gaudi (Located within Parc Guell) Although designed by Gaudi s colleague Francesc Berenguer, Gaudi never-the-less had a hand in designing the garden pergola and the beau ful furniture. The same features of minimalism and spectacular can be applied to the pres gious furniture specifically designed for the building, among which is the iconic Barcelona chair. Concert Hall The Palace of Catalan Music, is an icon of modernist architecture in downtown Barcelona. Built between 1905 and 1908 by the great architect Lluis Domènech i Montaner, the Palau de la Música Catalana is an architectural jewel of Catalonia and essen al part of any visit to the city. Daurel Founda on of Contemporary Art Museum The Poble Espanyol, or Spanish Village, is an open-air museum comprising full-scale replicas of 117 buildings from different parts of Spain. with streets, houses, parks, theatre, school, restaurants and ar san workshops. The visit also includes the Daurel Founda on of Contmporary Art Museum, with a collec on made up of over 300 works of contemporary art by interna onally recognised ar sts. 6 Hospitality & Catering Sparkling Wine Producers Cava, or sparkling wine, has been produced in the Penedes region, just west of Barcelona, since the 16th c century. Several producers offer guided tours for the general public. One of the best known is Freixenet. This company offers an audio-visual show, visit to the caves and observa on of the produc on process. Visitors are offered a complimentary glass of Cava at the end of the tour. 7 Leisure & Tourism Olympic Stadium Museum The Olympic and Sports Museum has sec ons devoted to many different sports and their Olympic history. Exhibits include famous equipment and clothing, different Olympic torches, posters and mascots through the year. There are interac ve sec ons where you can test your reflexes or compete against virtual Olympic athletes. Port Aventura This is now Spain s number 1 tourist a rac on, and one of the biggest in Europe. There is a mixture of shows, gentle rides, white knuckle rides and of course plenty of shops and places to eat. The irony is that this masterpiece was unfinished by the me he died in 1926 and is s ll unfinished today. The crypt museum tells the story of the building and how it evolved. Nou Camp Football Stadium FC Barcelona Trophies, documents, photographs and audio-visual shows trace the history of one of the greatest clubs in the world.
