4 WHY MALLORCA, the Mediterranean Pearl? Majorca is the ideal place for any event, incentive, convention or congress. It is well connected by plane to all the European capital cities and has modern hotels and first-rate know-how in the tourism sector. The island offers ideal facilities for all events or sports activities, especially sailing and golf, as well as rambling, tennis, football, canoeing, horse-riding and much, much more. The Majorca culture, gastronomy and climate add the finishing touch to make this a destination that always fulfils the highest expectations. With 300 days of sunshine each year and a mild subtropical climate, situated equidistant from Africa and Europe and with excellent flight connections from all over Europe, the 3640 square kilometers that we call Mallorca has, throughout its history, been visited by many different civilizations, attracted to the island by its wealth of possibilities. In Majorca, as well as an excellent variety of hotels, we can also find many other kinds of installations that can be specially adapted for all kinds of activities relating to meetings, incentives, conventions and events. 5 Palma de Mallorca Palma de Mallorca Majorca is synonymous with world-renowned beaches and coves, but is also a perfect destination to enjoy countryside, golf, culture, water sports, entertainment... There are many reasons to visit this enclave in the Balearic Islands. The island measures almost 80 kilometers from one end to the other and is outstanding for its diversity. It has 550 kilometers of coast, where you will find some of the Mediterranean's most beautiful coves and beaches: white sand beaches with a full range of services, as well as small coves set between cliffs and pine groves in the north of the island. Its clean, clear waters are ideal for swimming and water sports such as scuba diving, windsurfing, fishing, sailing, and even surfing. However, these are not the only sports available: there are a range of well-designed golf courses, harmoniously set in their surroundings, suitable for all levels. The countryside also plays an important role. Almost 40 percent of the island is protected. Its landscapes are characterized by contrast. There are outstanding areas such as the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains, in the north, with peaks reaching over 1,400 m above sea level, and the Cabrera Marine and Terrestrial Nature Reserve, a group of islands and islets, just over an hour away by boat. There are pleasant surprises to be found in every corner of Majorca. There are a host of routes and hiking trails, both along the coast and inland. Towns such as Deià, Pollença and Valldemossa have captivated artists for centuries, on account of their picturesque atmosphere. Culture is a vital part of the life of the island. Throughout the year there are festivals, concerts, literary events, exhibitions... The capital, Palma de Mallorca, is the island's cultural center, outstanding for its historic old town and excellent night life. 5

7 Mallorca Cathedral Palma de Mallorca A jewel of Gothic architecture overlooking the sea. The cathedral is built over the city walls of Palma de Mallorca's old town. Construction of this building began during the reign of Jaime II, and it comprises three naves. The main nave is home to the Trinidad chapel, where the remains of kings Jaime II and Jaime III are laid to rest. Highlights on the façade include the main door and the south door or Mirador, especially interesting for its decoration, featuring sculptures by Guillermo Sagrera. The Mirador door is spectacularly beautiful on account of its carvings of geometrical and plant motifs, while the main doorway is supported by four majestic columns. The reforms carried out by the architect Antonio Gaudí in the early 20th century are another of the attractions of this building, as are the works by the artist Miquel Barceló in the Santísimo Chapel, with a huge ceramic mural, stained glass windows and the furnishings. The cathedral of Palma de Mallorca also has a tower with nine bells. It is particularly worth noting the size of the bell known as "N'Eloi", which measures two meters in diameter and weighs 4,517 kilos. 7

9 Cultural Landscape of the Sierra de Tramuntana Palma de Mallorca The Sierra de Tramuntana mountains run parallel to the northwest coast of the island of Majorca. Its unique agricultural landscape, with irrigation systems dating from mediaeval times, have merited the World Heritage designation by the UNESCO. From the municipal district of Andratx to the cape of Cabo Formentor, we find a succession of steep mountains and fertile valleys linked by a series of gorges. In addition to the beauty of the landscape which captivated artists such as Chopin, Unamuno, Anglada Camarasa and Camilo José Cela, the Sierra de Tramuntana is also the site of Majorca's main water reserves. Its steep slopes and agricultural terraces are an outstanding example of the exploitation of natural resources according to the means and knowledge available in each historical period. The network for managing and distributing the water between the different plots of land combines systems which date from Arab times with other elements such as mills and stone constructions built without mortar (bridges, walls, paths ). 9

16 Some Ideas for Activities: Golf Clinic or Just Golf Palma de Mallorca Mallorca is a very well known destination for golfers as there are a total of 23 golf courses in the island and a great temperature all year around. For one day we can organize a golf activity to let the guests enjoy the 18 holes or a private Golf Clinics session in one of the golf clubs on the island. The group will be split in smaller groups. The activity includes 2 hours training with a golf professional for each 6 persons group and a coffee break at the golf s club restaurant. After this, a competition between the teams will be organized and at the end we will have an award ceremony for the winners. A golf course is the perfect way for every golf enthusiast to enjoy a round surrounded by a magnificently kept course; within a wonderful Mediterranean landscape. 18 Chill-out Afternoon at the Beach Palma de Mallorca When coming to Mallorca people shouldn t miss the beautiful beaches. Therefore we recommend a relaxing afternoon at one of the nicest beaches close to Palma - Playa de Illetas. Enjoy the afternoon by having a sunbath, read a book or have a refreshing dip into the turquoise water of the Mediterranean sea. As a special touch for the ones who are more active, we have the possibility to rent some kayaks or snorkel equipment. Moreover in order to refresh the guests, we can also organize a mojito open bar. 20 Gourmet Train Tour and Majorcan Wine Cellars & Wine Tasting Activity Palma de Mallorca This is an ideal activity to organize during the morning or afternoon and for those willing to learn and taste the authentic flavor of the Mallorcan wine. We will head towards the villages of Binissalem and Consell. Famous throughout the island for the excellent quality of its wines (grouped under the Binissalem denomination of origin), these municipalities have been a crossroads for travelers, who passed through its countryside of almond and carob trees and vineyards on their way to Palma all throughout history. Once we arrive at the first village, we will initially visit the biggest winery of the island. We will then have a very special train ride which will take us to the vineyards for a relaxing tasting surrounded by nature. We will then ride to the oldest cellar of Mallorca. The vineyards and cellars are family owned and they have developed a wine internationally known for its quality, using traditional indigenous Mallorcan grapes that have received praise from wine lovers around the world. 22 Visit a 10 th Century Mansion Palma de Mallorca This is a very interesting way of getting to know a little bit more about the island and its traditions. The group will be divided into smaller groups and they will do the itinerary on a rotation system. We will travel to the north-west coast of the island, up in the Tramuntana mountain range, to the beautiful village of Esporles, where we will visit a super 10th century mansion all built of stone called La Granja. The finca has wonderful lush gardens and natural springs and it is now a museum where you can see skilled craftsmen going about their traditional work in many old crafts such as lace, basket and cheese making, spinning, weaving etc.. The visit starts in the gardens of the venue, where clients can see the farm animals and the flora of the area. The visit then takes us inside the house, where clients can admire the decoration and furniture and way of living of a high aristocratic Mallorcan family from last century. Every room is beautifully decorated and clients will feel like they are travelling back in time. Once outside, as a special touch we suggest a typical Mallorcan products and wine tasting. 22

24 Scavenger Hunt in the Old Town & lunch at La Lonja Quarter Palma de Mallorca A different way to get to know the destination and its culture is to organize a Scavenger hunt. The group will be divided into teams and each team will be given a folder with a map for orienteering and a questionnaire. The goal is to find certain checkpoints, where special tasks are waiting to be fulfilled. By answering the questionnaire about historical and cultural items, each team will collect as many points as possible. To begin the scavenger hunt, each team will have to complete a small puzzle in the least amount of time. The fastest team begins. On route there will be different check points, where sportive and/or creative tasks will be awaiting the teams, to collect more points. At the end of the scavenger hunt the team with the highest score wins. If desired, we are also able to include specific questions referring to your company. These are some examples of the activities at the check-points: Knots: Two team members try to release themselves from the ropes tying them without undoing the knots; Cannibals: The aim of this game is to bring three tourists across a river without being eaten by the cannibals. A strategy game. Poetry: Team have to be creative and write a poem which should include specific words given by the guide. Then we will stop at La Lonja, an emblematic quarter, to have lunch in one of the best restaurants of the city. They serve Spanish and international cuisine, in which Fish and Shellfish predominate and for sure, the quality of the food and the service is outstanding. 26 Valldemossa & Paella Cooking Competition at Typical Mallorcan Finca Palma de Mallorca This is also an ideal excursion for this group since combines culture & gastronomy!. We will start our route towards to the peaceful village of Valldemossa, which is one of the most photographed locations in Mallorca. The village has picturesque tree-lined streets, old stone houses and plush new villas. We will stroll around the village and then visit the Carthusian Monastery, where composer Frederic Chopin and his lover George Sand spent their winter of discontent back in the year After the visit the group will head to the Finca, where they will be welcomed with a cocktail and a selection of canapés. The paella cooking competition will take place at the beautiful and peaceful inner courtyard. This was the heart of agricultural life on the farm and the means of access to all of the buildings. The 100 year old trees offer shade in the summer and allows the sunlight to filter in the winter. The courtyard is also decorated with typical Majorcan plants, making it an incomparable setting for the activity. Lunch will then be served in one of the beautiful rooms of the Manor House. They will then be divided into teams and each team will have to cook a Paella. There will be a well known chef giving instructions, supervising the cooking and announcing the winner at the end. 28 Catamaran Cruise around Mallorca s South Coast with lunch on board Palma de Mallorca An unforgettable and relaxing activity, full of charm and always a success, is a catamaran excursion to admire the beauty of the Mallorcan coast. We will depart the hotel and we will board in two spectacular Catamarans. Depending on the weather conditions, we will sail towards the southeast or the southwest of the island. The views of the coast, little caves and beaches is just superb and we will also be able to admire the old town and the cathedral from a very special perspective. Some stops will be made at beautiful and secluded bays during the cruise so that the clients can have a refreshing swim in the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean Sea. The catamarans have a chill-out area for sunbathing, direct access to the sea, fresh water showers, ladies and gentleman s toilets and a kitchen. The catamarans will be in exclusivity for the group from 09:00 to 18:00h and a lunch and an open bar service will be organized on board during the trip. 31 Mallorca s Gastronomical Break Through Palma de Mallorca Example of the Mediterranean diet. The culinary offer in the Balearic Islands remains true to the principles of Mediterranean cuisine. Designation of Origin products such as sobrasada, Mahón cheese and Binissalem-Mallorca wine, as well as traditional recipes from the area, can be tasted in Palma. Tumblet (a vegetable stew with potatoes, fried peppers and aubergines in tomato purée), fish with rice and pa amb oli (a slice of bread with oil and tomato) are not to be missed. Game meat, fish, seafood, fruit and vegetables are the proof of the gastronomic variety of the isles. And for dessert, the best thing to have is an ensaimada, and one of the liquors from the area (palo, gin or herbs).the best way to get a feel of the most typical cuisine of Palma is to visit any of its old cafés and traditional bakeries. There are also over 1,000 restaurants in the city, which as well as the most typical dishes, also offer a wide range of cuisines from all over the world, and creations by internationallyrenowned chefs. The most popular restaurants are to be found in several areas: the old part of town, on the seafront promenade, Paseo del Born, Santa Catalina, Es Molinar...And here's a tip: if you want to buy typical products like sobrasadas, cheese, almonds, cakes and pastries and suchlike, the best idea is to visit one of the charming typical markets like the El Olivar market. 31

34 Palau de Congressos Palma de Mallorca The City Council of Palma de Mallorca and the local Government of the Balearic Islands have joined forces to start the development of an ambitious project - the construction of the future Palma Convention Centre. The winning project for the tender is that of the architect from Navarre, Francisco Mangado, whose ideas are perfectly in tone with the character of our Mediterranean city and its emblematic location on Palma's seafront. It houses nine halls and meeting rooms, two of which (the Magna and Mozart Halls) have a theatre structure and can be use as support for the holding of conventions and conferences. The auditorium also has an area permanently reserved for exhibitions, another area (Mediterranean) where the presidency is located, the press hall, secretary and VIP room for the conferences. The total built surface area equals m2. From all heights, the views are spectacular. Looking to the left, the canvas is cut through by the walls that are crowned by the Palace of the Almudaina and the Cathedral, the Llonja and the Consolat de Mar. In the middle are the Nautical Club and the Moll Vell. On the right, the Sea Club and the dock of Porto Pí. The sea offers itself like and immense lake that two ribbons of land are trying to close, with the Island of Cabrera barely perceptible in the far distance, the smallest of the Archipelago.
