3 WELCOME TO THE SOUTH! Welcome to Guldborgsund Denmark's southernmost municipality with 61,000 inhabitants on Falster and eastern Lolland. Guldborgsund Municipality is wonderfully scenic and offers every opportunity for a good work-life balance. Nørre Vedby NØRRE ALSLEV E55 E47 STUBBEKØBING Train service to Copenhagen The trip takes around 1.5 hours by train. The train service to Zealand is currently being upgraded. Once completed, the trip to Copenhagen will only take around 1 hour. Guldborg E55 ESKILSTRUP Horbelev The E47 takes you west to the Rødby Puttgarten ferry crossing. The town also has a large hospital, theatre, cultural centres, educational campus, indoor swimming pool and excellent sports facilities. Marielyst repeatedly voted the best beach in Denmark The seaside resort of Marielyst buzzes with life all summer, but it also has many year-round residents. There are around 8,000 holiday homes and a stunning beach stretching more than 20 km, which has repeatedly been voted the best in Denmark. E55 Gedser The E55 takes you south to the Gedser Rostock ferry crossing. 7

8 NYKØBING IS LOLLAND- FALSTER'S CAPITAL NYKØBING FALSTER IS THE HEART OF THE MUNCIPALITY NYKØBING IS THE CAPITAL OF LOLLAND-FALSTER At the heart of the municipality lies its main town Nykøbing Falster. This is where you will find the public administration, the central hospital with an accident and emergency department, shops, a shopping centre, a library and a wide range of educational opportunities and cultural offers such as the Nykøbing Falster Revue, which is famous throughout Denmark. AN EDUCATIONAL CENTRE In Nykøbing, you will also find the municipality's largest and brand new school, Sophieskolen, with the capacity for 900 pupils, and Guldborgsund Musikskole, which offers music lessons to children and young people at all levels. YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMMMES There are a wide variety of youth education programmes. We have all types of upper secondary education: The Higher Commercial Examination Programme (HTX), The Higher Technical Examination Programme (HTX), The General Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate (STX) and The Higher Preparatory Examination (HF) at Nykøbing Katedralskole and CELF (Centre for Vocational Education Lolland Falster). Not to mention vocational training, where CELF offers commercial, agricultural and technical programmes and social and health care programmes (SOSU). We also have the production school MultiCenter Syd and VUC Storstrøm, which offer adult education at upper secondary level. HIGHER EDUCATION In addition, we offer a wide range of profession-specific programmes such as nursing, social educator, social and health care assistant and leisure management all under one roof at an education campus in Nykøbing. There is also the Zealand Institute of Business and Technology, which offers vocational programmes at tertiary level. 8 URBAN LIFE AND RECREATION Down by the town's waterfront, attractive apartments overlook Guldborgsund, alongside sailing clubs, a gym, restaurants, cafés and one of the region's best cinemas. Nykøbing is, in every way, the heart of the municipality.

11 TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN GULDBORGSUND MUNICIPALITY VIBRANT LOCAL COMMUNITY Much of Guldborgsund Municipality's charm stems from all the local communities that buzz with life and activity all year round. Wherever you go in the municipality, you will find active clubs and associations in towns large and small. LEISURE TIME There is something for every taste, no matter what your age: local theatrical performances, horse riding, sea kayaking, sports, festivals, food clubs, lectures, yoga, dog training your imagination really is the only limit. CLOSE TO EVERYTHING AND YET "OUT IN THE STICKS" SCHOOLS AND CHILDREN Many families with children choose to move to one of the smaller towns where there are day care institutions with a childcare guarantee, school, convenience store, sports club, leisure activities and other public and private services. At primary level, we have 15 municipal primary and lower secondary schools and four private or independent schools. We have nature kindergartens, where the emphasis is on nature pedagogy and children spend much of the time outside in the woods and on the beach. FIBRE-OPTIC BROADBAND Fibre-optic broadband is already available in many parts of the municipality, and intensive work is under way to further upgrade mobile and broadband coverage. HOUSING AND/OR FLEXIBLE HOUSING The housing market is diverse, and you will find all types of property here, whether you are looking for a flat, a cooperative dwelling, a villa, a single-family house, a bungalow, a rental property or a farm with lots of space in green surroundings. A new law on flexible housing allows you to buy a permanent residence and use it as a holiday home. You can move in permanently at any time or use it as a second home. 12 FUN COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND HIGH CULTURE CULTURE, LEISURE AND COMMUNITIES A HOST OF GREAT FACILITIES Scattered throughout the municipality, you will find more than 20 sports halls, 70+ football pitches and numerous cultural centres, village halls and communal houses. There are three indoor swimming baths: in Sakskøbing, Nørre Alslev and Nykøbing Falster, and an outdoor swimming pool in Kettinge near Nysted. You will also find a vast network of scenic bridle paths, cycling trails and recreational areas with shelters and bonfire pits, which you can use absolutely free of charge. LEISURE Leisure-wise, there is space for both grassroot and elite sports, and unlike in the big cities, there are no waiting lists to get started playing sports or joining something. There are more than 600 clubs and associations with some 54,000 members in our municipality. We have concerts, standup comedy, skating and climbing facilities, theatre, music and much more besides. Visit Fuglsang Art Museum just outside Nykøbing, for example. It is also home to Storstrøms Kammerensemble (the Storstrøm Chamber Ensemble), which gives concerts in the adjacent Fuglsang Cultural Centre. VOLUNTARY SOCIAL INITIATIVES Guldborgsund Frivilligcenter (volunteer centre) supports the voluntary and social initiatives, which are flourishing in Guldborgsund. The centre coordinates around 200 voluntary and social projects. More than 2,000 people volunteer to help others who are less fortunate than themselves. 12

15 THE LOCAL DELICACIES OF THE SOUTH SEA ISLANDS THE MILD CLIMATE OF THE SOUTH SEA ISLANDS Our climate is milder than in the rest of Denmark, hence the area's nickname of "The Danish South Sea Islands". The combination of soil conditions, sunshine and rainfall means that a long list of crops do really well here. No matter where you are, you will find fresh, local produce in abundance. A TOUR OF LOLLAND- FALSTER'S PANTRY FARM SHOPS AND MICROBREWERIES There are food markets, farm shops and microbreweries, often associated with local manor houses or enterprising towns that make a special effort to promote food culture. You can go to a food festival or harvest festival and celebrate the harvesting of all the crops. You can buy local, organic meat, or carve beet lanterns with the kids in the autumn, when the beets have been pulled up out of the ground, destined for the sugar factory. Experience the changing seasons and the whole "from field to fork" concept in reality. DINING AND GASTRONOMY We have many good restaurants and eateries, often scenically located, with local produce on the menu. It is pure luxury to enjoy the sunset from the harbour in Nysted, Sakskøbing Fjord or the view of the Baltic Sea. You can also explore Nordic cuisine, inspired by chef and gourmet Claus Meyer, who was born and raised in Guldborgsund.
