He also holds the ARCT diploma in piano performance. His work includes historic and current issues of representation in Canadian ethnomusicology. He was National Advisory Editor contriutor to the 7th edition of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2001), and a contriutor to The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music: The United States and Canada (2001). He has pulished articles in various journals and is co-editor of Istvan Anhalt: Pathways and Memory (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2001), and Folk Music, Traditional Music, Ethnomusicology: Canadian Perspectives, Past and Present (Camridge Scholar's Pulishing, 2007), Around and Aout Marius Bareau: Modelling Twentieth-Century Culture (Mercury Series, Canadian Museum of Civilization, 2008) and Musical Traditions, Culture and Contexts (Wilfrid Laurier University Press, 2010).
