It naturally corresponds to the education of the command-1eve1 personnel and presupposes the continual development of the naval Academy as an integrated education and research centre in the area of maritime science - both individually and in cooperation with all the other scientific organizations and units involved in the maritime range of topics. Achieving this objective is also perceived to be a requirement for the high quality and modern subject matter of teaching. The subject of activity of the Nava1 Academy is the training of personnel and the solving of scientific tasks mainly related to maritime professions. The Academy is we11 specialized and with its organization, academic courses, training facilities and formative traditions, it is in line with the specificity of this subject of activity. The main tasks that the Nava1 Academy realizes are: 1. The training of cadets for the Navy for the acquisition of higher education with bachelor's degree in the areas of Security and Defence and Technical Sciences; 2. The training of civilian students for the ас - quisition of higher education with bachelor's and master's degree from the areas of Technical Sciences and Social, Economic and Lega1 Sciences for the needs of the merchant fleet (both seagoing and inland waterway shipping) and the shore estaыishment of water transport and maritime industry; 3. The training of doctoral students from the areas of Security and Defence and Technical Sciences; 4. The training for acquiring and enhancing the qualification of specialists; 5. The academic and applied science research in the area of national defence, naval science, water transport and maritime industry; 6. The training for the acquisition of fourth degree of professional qualification for the rating of Petty Officer and the training of seamen for the acquisition of basic military training; 7. The structure of the Nava1 Academy incorporates two faculties: the Faculty of Navigation and the Faculty of Engineering, and a Department of Postgraduate Studies. The NCO Co]]ege at the Nava1 Academy is a structurа1 unit within the Academy. The function of the College is to conduct vocational training for the acquisition of fourth degree of professional qualification in specialties from the professional area of Military Science and Defence, completely in the spirit of the new requirements posed to the preparation of the petty officers for the participation of international operations and for following the daily routine at the military units. Към настоящия момент ВъВ ВВМу се обучават cmygexmu u 90 kypcaxmu. Аелът на чу}kgecтранните cmygexmu xenpekъcxamo нараства. Понастоящем се обуцават 142 cmygexmu от слеgните gъp?kabu: Турция, Гърция, Русия, Ykpaŭна, Грузия, Казахстан, Германия u Инgия. Nikola Vaptsarov Nava1 Academy is included in the White List of IMO as an approved higher maritime education in accordance with the international convention STCW 78, as amended. It has a regular institutional accreditation and curricular accreditations by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agenсу and it has the necessary faculty and facilities for training in the following academic courses: 1. Organization and management of military units at a tacticallevel; 2. Navigation; 3. Ship machinery; 4. Ship radio electronics; 5. Ship electrical systems; 6. Riverine navigation; 7. F1eet and port operation; 8. Water transport management; 9. Technology of ship repairs; 10. Ocean engineering; 11. Information and communication technologies in marine industry; 12. Logistics. There is an increased interest in the leading асаdemic courses by Bulgarian and foreign students. The preliminary study, the planning and the realization of the training show a long-lasting interest on the part of Bulgarian and foreign shipping сотраnies, manning agencies, national, regional and governmental institutions. At present, civilian students and 90 cadets are studying at Nikola Vaptsarov Nava1 Academy. The share of the foreign students is constantly increasing. There are currently students from the following countries: Turkey, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Germany and India. 49
