The vessel was set into the water after a small christining ceremonie, by Godmother Mariana Lascar, wife of ship coordinator Marian Lascar, The next months the tug will be fitted out on the same yard. Singapore. The Smit Dominica was built under Lloyd s Register and yard number On Teusday 10 th February a crew of Transport & Offshore Service will sail the tug to here homeport Ventspils - Latvia. Ventspils, the biggest northern outlet for Urals crude, which handles 15 million tons of Russian crude exports annually. The tug has a length of mtrs, beam of 10,43 mtrs and a draft of 4,60 mtrs. The two caterpillar 3516B TA HD/C main engines has a total output of 3628 kw with a bollard pull of 60 tons ahead and 57 tons astern. She have a maxiumum speed of 13.5 knots ahead as well as astern. (Source: Hans van der Ster) Svitzer Humber closed down Svitzer UK has closed down their associate company Humber Tugs Limited with effect from 31 December Following a detailed review of Svitzer operations on the Humber the company concluded that a high quality and reliable service to all of Svitzer s customers can be provided from the Svitzer Humber operations based in Immingham and Hull. Humber Tugs Limited was originally formed by Svitzer s predecessor Adsteam UK in order to offer an alternative low cost service, using a small

2 number of older tugs. Most of the vessels used are being absorbed back into various fleets operated by the parent company but it is likely that some staff redundancies will occur. (Source: Maritime Journal) Smit Madagascar handed over Last wednesday 4 th February on the ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd, in Singapore handed over the Smit Madagascar. The tug was built on the subsudairy ASL yard in Batam Indonesia under hull no 809. The tug with IMO build under Singapore flag and reflagged after delivery into Bahamian flag sailed from Singapore to Kuwait with a Smit Indonesian crew. The Smit Madagascar is a 329 grt tug with two Niigata engines type 6L25HX each with an output of 1323 kw (1800 hp). The Niigata fixed pitch propellers gives her an 47 tons bollard pull and a speed of 12.7 knots. She has a length 28 mtrs and a draft of 4 mtrs. (Source & Photo: Hans van der Ster) Smit Trafalgar The Smit Trafalgar (ex Trafalgar 1998; Adsteam Trafalgar 2005) was spotted at the yard of Smit in the Rotterdam Waalhaven. The tug will be loaded on a heavy lift cargo vessel for Taiwan, the new Smit contract, and follow the Union 9 (Photo: Hans Hoffmann) Danish tug sold to Canada Stevns Multiships II has sold its tug Stevns Iceflower to Canada for take-over as soon as the tug arrives after the Atlantic crossing. The tug was one of two tugs, that has been on

3 timecharter to Em. Z. Svitzer for one year under the name of Svitzer Njord. The sister tug, Stevns Icecap, has changed from a timecharter to a bareboat charter to Em. Z. Svitzer. Svitzer is using its own crew on the tug, which continues as Svitzer Nanna. The two tugs were built by Irving Shipbuilding Co at East Isle Shipyard, Georgetown, in A third sister, Stevns Icequeen, was sold to Alfons Håkans, Turku, in 2007 and sails under the name Poseidon. (Source: Leo Kramer; Photo: O.Jensen) Mumbles sold T P Towage Ltd of Gibraltar has sold the tug Mumbles to Resistência Serviços À Navegação, Lda of Setubal, a member of the Lutamar Group. Mumbles was originally built in 1969 for use at Swansea by the Alexandra Towing Company Ltd, transferred to Gibraltar in 1995, and was handed over to T P Towage Ltd by successors Howard Smith in The vessel is a single screw tug with a bollard pull of 40 tons, powered by a Ruston main engine of 2,190bhp. The sale follows the purchase of the Voith tractor Wellington (formerly Smit Canada ex; Canada) in March of (Source: Maritime Journal) Vlieland spotted Tug Vlieland was spotted on the slipway at IJmuiden for maintenance. The Vlieland was built in 1970 as Argus 8 on the Gutehoffnungshutte Sterkrade Walsum under yard number 1068 for Ulrich Harms- Hamburg. In 1990 she was sold to B.S.Bugsering (P.Ottosen) Fredeikshavn and renamed Spolum. Resold in 1994 to Partrederiet Vlieland Nyborg and renamed Vlieland. (Photo: Willem Koper) RT Margo Christened On Saterday 7 th of February the Kotug RT Margo (imo ) was christened at by Mrs Maria Bos at the Spido floating pier in Rotterdam. The RT80-28 type KST design tug was built on the ASL yard in Singapore under yard number 820. The tug has a 80 tons bollard pull. (Photo: Wil Kik) Total Congo fixes Polar Prince Seabrokers has confirmed that Total Congo has fixed Polar Prince from subsea contractor Technocean, a subsidiary of the vessel s owners, GC Reiber Shipping in Bergen, Norway. The vessel mobilised from Bergen with two Oceaneering work class ROV s on board and proceeded to Pointe Noire arriving late January. Contract duration is 30 days firm with potential options up to six months. The vessel will be performing a jacket installation on Total s Moho Bilondo Field in approximately 1,500m of water and is also scheduled to perform a cable installation project on location once the jacket has been installed. 4 Liberty Class Vessels Delivered to China By the beginning of 2009, more than half of the 22-vessel GPA 654M Liberty Class 100 PSV series and Bourbon Liberty 201, the first of the 54-vessel GPA 254L AHTS series, were delivered at Dayang Shipyard in China., The vessels were designed by Naval Architectural and Marine Engineering Firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc., headquartered in Seattle, WA. Bourbon currently has under construction and in operation more than 100 GPA designed vessels, including PSVs, AHTS vessels, IMR vessels, and ROV-capable vessels. Deep Sea Supply freight announces January revenues In January 2009 Deep Sea Supply`s AHTS fleet (all 10 AHTS Vessels larger than 12,000 BHP) had an average gross income of approximately USD 31,100 per ship per day compared to USD 40,100 in December. The vessel "Sea Leopard" has been offhire during the whole month and the North Sea spot market has been soft. The Company`s 2 AHTS-vessels in operation smaller than 12,000 BHP and 8 Platform Supply Vessels in operation are not included in the above calculations. The vessel was built by Keppel Singmarine (Singapore) under the contract with Lukoil. The ship is to operate at the Varandey Oil Export Terminal in the Barents Sea. The vessel is to be on continuous watch at the Stationary Ice- Resistant Sea Export Moor (SIRSEM), the Varandey Terminal, to ensure safe ice conditions during the loading of tankers. The vessel is 100 meters long and about 22 meters wide. Its draught is 10.6 meters; the deadweight of the ship is 4,643 tons. The vessel speed is 15 knots. The ice-breaker can move as fast as 3 knots in level ice as thick as 1.7 meters. There are 22 members of the crew onboard. The value of the ice-breaker building contract is US $102 million. The home port of the vessel is Kaliningrad. Earlier on, the "Toboy" auxiliary ice-breaking tug, also built at Keppel Singmarine shipyards in Singapore under Lukoil's order, started to facilitate tanker loading at SIRSEM, the Varandey Terminal. The vessel is 82 meters long and 18.5 meters wide. Its draught is 9.3 meters. The deadweight of the ship is 1,930 tons. Its speed is 15 knots. The tug, operated by 19 members of the crew, can negotiate 1.5-meter-thick ice with the speed of 2-3 knots. Kaliningrad is the home port of the vessel. The value of the tug building contract is US $72 million. Lukoil s own fleet is intended to ensure continuous year-round export of oil produced by the Company in the North of Timano-Pechora Oil and Gas Province. (Photo: Keppel)

5 Deep Sea Supply AHTS delivery delayed Delivery of Deep Sea Supply's new 12,000 bhp anchor handling tug supply vessel (AHTS) Sea Hawk 1 has been delayed until July 2009 due to a defective main gearbox. The AHTS was originally scheduled for delivery last month. Delivery of a replacement main gearbox has been delayed for unspecified reasons. Sea Hawk 1 currently is under construction at Jaya Shipbuilding and Engineering PTE Ltd., Singapore. Liquidation plan for Superior Offshore The US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas has confirmed the Plan of Liquidation submitted by Superior Offshore International. Under the plan, all equity interests will be cancelled on February 11th. Superior Offshore was a subsea construction and commercial diving services provider, and ceased operations, filed for bankruptcy and began winding down its affairs in April SOV Windermere Hallin Marine has signed a contract with Dry-Docks World for the construction of a Subsea Operations Vessel. The vessel will be built to Hallin's own design and specification in Singapore and is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of SOV Windermere vital statistics: * DP2 Dynamic Positioning * Diesel Electric Voith Schneider Propulsion * Length 79.8m, Beam 20.4m, * 700 sqm Deck Space * 120 Man Accommodation * 50 Ton SWL Offshore Active Heave-Compensated Knuckleboom Crane * Helideck for Super Puma * 15 Man Built-in Saturation Diving System Hallin Marine secures contract from Global Industries Hallin Marine has been awarded a US$8 million contract from Global Industries. The contract has been won by the company s Indonesian entity, PT Hallin Marine Indonesia, which will provide marine and subsea support of Global Industries for a gas pipeline repair project. Hallin has put together a package consisting of a subsea operations vessel, a saturation diving system, remote operated vehicle (ROV) and personnel in support of the project. The vessel SOV Sanko Angel, a Saturation Diving System and a workclass ROV, the Hallin built C-ROV, will be mobilized to support the project operations in water depth of approximately 55m offshore Indonesia. Global Industries scope includes the installation of 23km of new pipeline of which Hallin s services will be utilized to carry out the hot tapping into the existing line and hook up to the new section, before decommissioning the redundant pipeline. The project will commence in the first quarter of (Photo B.Poulsen) Seabreeze January reports Bound for Brazil ER Offshore s UT 755LN ER Trondheim, whose christening featured in the October Seabreeze, has secured an initial short term contract to work for Shell Brazil with the hope of longer term options. The vessel has been working for Total in the North Sea since delivery from the Aker shipyard, Norway in October. This will be ER Offshore s first venture in Brazil. Also heading from the North Sea to Brazil to work for Shell is Harms Bergung s 19,000 BHP AHT Ursus ( pictured c/o Jan Plug). Initial contract duration is 10 days + options and the workrole will include heading control duties.

6 Petrobras Update Petrobras has concluded the technical evaluation of proposals submitted against its tender for twenty four newbuild vessels. Twelve companies are vying for contracts for ten large AHTS s, ten PSV s, two large positioning/towing tugs and two oil spill response vessels. The initial evaluation placed the following owners in best position: AHTS 21,000 BHP: Chouest 2 vessels. AHTS 18,000 BHP : Chouest 4 vessels, Norskan 2 vessels, Noroil 1 vessel. Tug 15,000 BHP: CBO 2 vessels. PSV s : Otto Candies 1 vessel, CBO 2 vessels, Saveiros 6 vessels, Superpesa 1 vessel. Oil Spill Response: Sao Miguel 2 vessels, Astromaritima 1 vessel. The number of vessels contracted and the successful bidders will be subject to further negotiation with owners and the decision of the Petrobras Board. All contracts are for eight years + eight year options and it is a condition of the tender that the vessels must be built in Brazil. Owners have in principle three years to build and deliver the vessel(s) after contract award. Petrobras plan six further tenders for newbuild OSV s which together with this first tender will involve a massive 146 vessel programme. Petrobras also made the news in January with the announcement of their 5 Year Business Plan ( ). Based around the fundamentals of their Strategic Plan 2020, details include the Company s vision to become one of the largest integrated energy companies in the world and has aggressive growth targets and investment details to achieve the following oil production levels: 2.68 million bpd in 2013, 3.34 million bpd in 2015 and 3.92 million bpd in Trico to Deploy Volantis in Med Trico Marine subsidiary, CTC Marine Projects, has secured a US$20 million contract from Petrobel for structures, jumpers and umbilical installations on the North Bardawil project offshore Egypt. CTC will deploy the MPSV Volantis which was delivered from Fosen Shipyard, Norway last year and is on long term charter from owners Volstad. The 107 m long Volantis has a permanently installed 2,100 kw UT- 1 Ultra Trencher jet trenching system, a 2,000 ton carousel reel for deployment of flexible pipeline and umbilical, a 150 ton heave compensated crane and the WROV Installer from Trico s DeepOcean division. Successful First Job for Mystique Hornbeck Offshore Services newbuild DP2 ROV support vessel HOS Mystique has completed its first assignment for Saipem America who have the vessel on a three year charter. The vessel carried out a pod change on a well in the Green Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico in a water depth of approximately 2,600 feet. The vessel, which has two heavy work class ROVs onboard ( a 250 HP Innovator Leviathan and a 150 HP standard Innovator,) was reported heading for Fourchon to await next employment. Phoenix Finished Havyard Leirvik yard in Norway has delivered the subsea construction vessel, Havila Phoenix which is undergoing final sea trials and the installation of a 250 tonne heave compensated crane prior to commencing a ten year charter to Phoenix International. This charter was fixed back in the summer of 2007 with original expectation of delivery mid Despite later than anticipated delivery the charter remains intact with Phoenix exploring long term opportunities worldwide as well as in the Gulf of Mexico which was the vessel s intended market. The vessel is a Havyard 858 design with an LOA of 110m, beam of 23m and accommodation for 140 persons. No Malaise In Malaysia The 1997 built, 18,600 BHP AHTS Normand Atlantic and the 2001 built, 20,000 BHP Normand Ivan belonging to Solstad Offshore ASA of Norway have secured further employment in Malaysia where both units are currently working. Contract duration is 26 months with a total value of approximately NOK 800 million. The contracts are with Newfield (2 months) and Murphy Oil (24 months) with commencement circa 1st February in direct continuation of existing contracts. Both vessels have been on charter to Murphy since 2004.

7 From Norse God To Indian God Rem Offshore ASA of Norway has sold the 2008 built UT712L design 16,000 BHP AHTS, Rem Odin to Indian shipping company Varun for a booked profit of NOK 100 million. The vessel has been renamed Subhadra (pictured c/o David Dodds) and continues to trade the North Sea spot market. Hallin flagship Ullswater The SOV Ullswater is the new Hallin flagship, built to the company s own design and specification at the Drydocks World yard in Batam, Indonesia at a cost of US$36 million. The vessel is suitable for wellhead servicing, Inspection and Construction Diving and ROV support. The DP2 Ullswater boasts the Hallin designed and built, integral moonpool launched, 15 man saturation diving system and a Hallin designed and built Workclass ROV and air diving system. The 78 metre vessel is fitted with a selfpropelled hyperbaric lifeboat, 50T offshore subsea crane and 120 berths, all air conditioned. Hallin have sold and leased back Ullswater on a 10 year bare boat charter and the vessel will be immediately deployed on a long contract to as yet undisclosed charterers. New Remedy In December the launch ceremony of the world s first Elevating Support Vessel (ESV) took place at the COSCO Nantong Shipyard in China. Remedial ESV Solutions is one of two such units being built for Cyprus based Remedial Offshore and is scheduled for delivery in March. The innovative design is optimised for well intervention in water depths of up to 100m and combines the capabilities of a jack-up platform, an ocean going vessel, a work-over drilling rig as well as heavy lift / accommodation unit. Remedial have sought to fill a gap in the market by utilising a combination of timetested technologies to create a vessel which is larger and more capable than any existing lift- boat. Based on a 300 class jack-up rig the ESV is capable of conducting elevated operations up to 75ft away from the well structure. Specification includes: 130m leg length, 14,000 sq ft deck area, high capacity pedestal crane (300-ton/280MT), 250-ton modular electric doubles workover package and accommodation for 90 contractor s personnel. The photo above (c/o Remedial) shows the Remedial ESV Solutions skidded on to a barge in preparation for fitting three 3,500HP thrusters and the remaining leg sections. This first unit has been fixed to Chevron Offshore (Thailand) for 1 year + 1 year option to carry out well intervention and offshore support services. Vikings in the Southern Hemisphere StatoilHydro Brasil Ltda has issued letters of intent (LOI) for the following five contracts in Brazil:- DOF ASA subsidiary, Norskan Offshore Ltda for an Aker AH08 AHTS which is currently under construction at STX Europe s shipyard in Vietnam with delivery scheduled second quarter of Duration is two years firmwith two x one year options at a dayrate believed to be in the region of NOK 260, ,000 level. Another LOI has been issued for the UT 755L design PSV Skandi Waveney also for two years plus two x one year options at a rate believed to be in the region of USD 30,000. Skandi Waveney is owned by Waveney AS in which DOF has a 47% interest. Siem Consub SA (Brazil), a wholly owned subsidiary of Norway s Siem Offshore Inc, has received an LOI for a large PSV of VS485 design for two years firm plus two x one year options. Commencement is scheduled within the

8 4th Quarter of Commercial details have not been disclosed. Finally, CBO have received an LOI for two UT 715 design PSVs under construction at Alianca shipyard in Niteroi. These two vessels are the first newbuildings in Brazil generated by StatoilHydro activities in the country. Sayonara Yolanda The 3,800 BHP 1972 built AHTS Yolandi I ex Maersk Supplier ex Stevns Supplier has been purchased by Offshore Express of Louisiana from Dragamex CV of Mexico onundisclosed terms. On delivery the vessel was reflagged to the Panamanian registry. Cancellation Corner Several S & P deals have been cancelled recently due to financing problems. Mermaid Marine of Australia announced that they were not progressing with the purchase of a new AHTS which they had been planning to acquire around January. The purchase price had been agreed at US$ 18.2 million and the vessel was to form part of their core fleet. They have decided to reduce their risk profile and instead charter tonnage as required. Meanwhile Malaysia s Corro-Pro (L) Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Perisai Petroleum, has cancelled the purchase of Britoil s 2005 built 5,400 BHP AHT Britoil 62 due to difficulties in obtaining finance for the US $11 million purchase price. Norway s Solstad Offshore have terminated a sale agreement on their 1986 built 13,200 BHP AHTS Normand Skarven after the buyers, named as Negris Holdings of Nigeria, failed to meet payment obligations. The vessel will now continue on its longterm field support contract with StatoilHydro and the prospective buyers will presumably forfeit their 10% deposit. Similarly, India s Garware Offshore Services has cancelled the sale of the 2008 built UT755LN design PSV Mana due to the failure of unnamed Nigerian interests to honour purchase obligations. Finally, it has been reported that Scan Geophysical of Norway are experiencing difficulties in concluding a sale and leaseback deal with First Shipping (PFS) Singapore for three seismic vessels on order from ABG Shipyard, India, putting the order at risk. Poseidon Poised For Veoila The large subsea construction vessel, Viking Poseidon, pictured left c/o Terje Kallevag, was delivered during January by Ulstein Verft to her Norwegian owner Eidesvik Offshore ASA. The vessel s design is Ulstein SX 121 featuring the innovative Ulstein X-Bow. With a dwt of approximately 10,000 tonnes, an LOA of 130m, breadth of 25m and a cargo deck of up to 1700m2, this is a large vessel even by modern MPSV standards. Other features include accommodation for up to 105 persons, two moonpools, a 250 ton active heave compensated offshore crane, ROV hangar, diesel - electric machinery plus helideck. The vessel is fixed to Veolia ES Special Services Inc on an eight year contract valued at some 1 billion NOK. Tromsoe On Track The UT 755LN design PSV ER Tromsoe was delivered to owners ER Offshore by STX Aukra shipyard, Norway on 22nd December and has been trading on the North Sea spot market. The vessel features DP II, FiFi 1, deck area of 680m2 with a load capacity of 1600 tonnes, two main engines developing a total of 5385kW plus two bow thrusters and two stern thrusters each rated at 590 kw. Commander Of The Seas Stril Offshore AS as manager for owners Simon Mokster, took delivery of the Havyard 842 design 200 tonne bollard pull AHTS Stril Commander from builders Havyard Leirvik, Norway on 2nd January. This high specification vessel features DP2, FiFi 1, 280 survivor class to NMD rules, Oil Rec, Ice Class

9 1E, and double drum anchor handling / towing winch of 350 tonne pull / 500 tonnes brake hold. The vessel is currently working in the North Sea spot market. Another World First This story was released back in December but we thought it was of sufficient interest to merit inclusion in this edition. The Boa Thallassa, pictured left on sea trials c/o Geir Otto Johansen, has the distinction of being the world s first specialised ship with EMGS unique electromagnetic technology for seabed logging. Built by Bergen Group Fosen (formerly Fosen Mek.Verksteder) the MT 6007 design vessel is owned and operated by BOA Offshore of Trondheim. EMGS ASA have taken the Boa Thallassa on long term charter and will operate the ship in the international market for seabed logging of offshore oil and gas reserves. Vessel Spec: LOA 80.35m, Beam 16.4m / 21.2 m aft, Accommodation for 54 persons, Helideck for Sikorsky S-92 class, diesel electric propulsion. A sister vessel, Boa Galatea is scheduled for delivery from the same yard during June/ July and has also been fixed long term to EMGS. Meanwhile another EMGS chartered vessel, the VS470 MKII Sasha, is being re-converted to a PSV at Frederikshavn and will join the North Sea spot market. The vessel is contracted until 2010 but EMGS are seeking to reduce their fleet. Saipem Calls The Tune Oslo listed subsea engineering and oil services group, Acergy, have sold their semi submersible pipelay barge Acergy Piper to Saipem for a consideration of US$ 78 million. The unit has been mostly operating in the North Sea and recently in Brazil on the Mexilhao project. The vessel is the company s sole operating unit in the noncore trunkline market.
