Welcome to our latest expansion: The Eastern Mediterranean. Naval battles in the Mediterranean Sea have been going on for over 2000 years. From the Phoenicians onward, nations surrounding the Med have all striven for dominance. Some achieved notable success in doing so. The strategic geographic objectives are much the same. The technology that is now available has changed the tactics but human beings still pay the price. The eastern Mediterranean navies are in alphabetical order: Albania, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Montenegro, Syria and Turkey. The Russian Black Sea Fleet is here as well. Each of the countries contained in this expansion is in at least one scenario. The size of the vessels is generally smaller than the ships of the major blue water navies. Most of the fleets are centered around frigates and patrol boats with the occasional destroyer and the odd aircraft carrier. Of course there are updated systems for the newest ships. Most of the data is drawn from 2008 and newer sources. The charts will focus only the weapons and systems for the ships herein. Stealth technology has advanced such that the newer vessels have a larger modifier against being spotted or hit. Good gaming to you all! T. Dziegielewski 1

Change to the ship construction and the published guide lines: Hull points are based on the standard displaced tonnage of the vessel, not the fully loaded tonnage. The conversion factors are: For US & UK vessels Hull Points = (std. displ. ton)/550 rounded to the nearest whole number. For Russian vessels Hull Points = (std. displ. ton)/600 rounded to the nearest whole number. Carriers and Helicopter Assault ships all have their hull points reduced by 15%. For movement in inches per turn divide the rated speed in nm/hr by 4, round to the nearest half inch. (That means ¼ inch and ¾ inch round down). Damage Control Compliment: For US & UK vessels the conversion is crew compliment/400 rounded to the nearest whole number with a minimum of value of one. For Russian vessels the calculation is the crew compliment/500 rounded to the nearest whole number with a minimum value of one. (½ rounds down) For the smallest vessels of all countries, if the crew compliment is 29 or less, the vessel is given a Damage Control Crew rating of zero. This means that all die rolls for repairing damage start with a -1 modifier due to the small crew. Each additional repair die roll accrues an additional -1 modifier. For example if the vessel has to make three rolls this turn, the first roll uses a -1, the second gets a -2 and the third gets a -3 and so forth. This rule change affects most patrol boats, small submarines and the like. They will probably have a DCC rating of zero. The internet and libraries are good places to search for the specific data on the size of the crew for any given boat. 3

Scenario #1: Spiraling out of control. Syrian hardliners have seized power and decided that the Israeli navy poses a threat not only to Syria but also to their quasi-allies Hamas and Hezbollah in the Gaza region. The goal of the Syrian plan is to weaken the Israeli coastline and make it easier to infiltrate Israel. Syrian Forces: 1 Petya III class FFL 4 OSA class PBG 2 Tir II class PTFG 3 Land based helo s Israeli Forces: 1 Type 800 class SSK (may set up anywhere not in the Syrian zone) 1 Eilat class FSGHM (Saar 5) 2 Hetz class PGGM (Saar 4.5) 1 Reshef class OPV (Saar 4) 3 land based Apache helo s The playing surface is 8 ft. long by 5 feet wide. Victory conditions: Syria wins if they destroy the same number or more of surface vessels and the same number or more of helo s as Israel. Israel loses automatically if the submarine is sunk. If the Israelis sink more surface vessels than the Syrians and the Syrians sink the sub, the game is a draw. 4

Scenario #2: The bear wants to get out of his cage. Due to an unfortunate series of events the Turks have closed the Bosporus Strait. The Russians are demanding free navigation. The Turks have drawn a line just inside the Black Sea at the east end of the Bosporus. See what happens when a game of chicken gets out of hand. Turkish Forces: Russian Forces: (Black Sea Fleet) 2 Preveze class SSK 1 Kilo class SSK 3 Atilay class SSK 1 Slava class CGHM 2 Barbaros class FFGH 1 Kara class CGHM 2 Yavuz class FFGH 1 Kashin class DDGM 2 Perry class FFG 1 Krivak I class FFM 1 Knox class FFGH 1 Krivak II class FFM 2 Burak class FSG 2 Grisha III class FFLM 2 Dergach class PGGJM 2 Nanuchka III class FSG 2 Tarantul class FSGM Victory conditions: Each submarine is worth 3 points, each cruiser is worth 3 points. Each destroyer is worth 2 points. Each frigate is worth 1 point. Each corvette is worth a half a point. Each Dergach class is worth one quarter of a point. Each helicopter is worth a quarter of a point. The side accumulating the most points is the winner. A tie score is a draw. 5

Scenario #3: The Odyssey & the Iliad redux. The Greeks and the Turks have renewed an age old animosity. This time there is no hero like Achilles and no wooden horses. Turkish Fleet Greek Fleet 2 - Preveze class SSK 2 - Type 214 class SSK 4 - Atilay class SSK 4 - Type 209 class SSK 2 - Barbaros class FFGHM 2 - Hydra class FFGHM 1 - Yavuz class FFGHM 2 - Elli class FFGHM 1 - Perry class FFG 2 - Niki class FS 1 - Milgem class FSG 2 - Laskos class PGGF 1 - Burak class FSG Victory conditions: Each submarine is worth 3 points, each cruiser is worth 3 points. Each frigate is worth 1 point. Each corvette and patrol boat is worth a half a point. Each helicopter is worth a quarter of a point. The side accumulating the most points is the winner. A tie score is a draw. 6

Scenario #4: The East Coast of the Adriatic or; Can t we all just get along? Albania, Croatia and Montenegro were reformed after Yugoslavia broke up. Sometimes old rivalries fester for decades. Sometimes hard times cause bad judgment. Frictions between Croatia and Montenegro have reached a head of maritime and trade issues. Albania has sided with Montenegro because they were paid well. Croatian Fleet Albanian Fleet 2 - Kralj class FSG 1 - Shanghai II PBF 1 - Koncar class PTFG 2 - Patrol boats 4 - Mirna PBF Montenegran Fleet 1 - Kotor class FFGM 2 - Koncar class PTFG Victory conditions: Last one standing wins. 7

Scenario #5: A House Divided Cyprus has been divided by a UN buffer Zone since The unresolved animosities of the past have found new life. Sensing the Greek economic weakness, Turkey attempts to blockade the island s major port. Greek and Cypriot forces attempt to smash the blockade. Turkish Fleet Greek Fleet 2 - Preveze class SSK (type 209/1400) 4 - Glavkos class SSK (type 209/1100) 2 - Atilay class SSK (type 209/1200) 2 - Hydra class FFGHM (MEKO 200) 2 - Barbaros class FFGHM (MEKO 200 TN) 2 - Perry class FFGHM Cypriot Fleet 1 - Knox class FFGH 1 - Patra class PBM 1 - Dilos class PBGM 1 - Prop driven aircraft (2 gun pods & 2 rocket pods) Victory conditions: If the Turks drive off the Greeks and the Cypriots lose 2 of their three units; it is a Turkish victory. If the Turkish fleet is sunk and/or withdraws it is a Greek/Cypriot victory. Any other result is a draw. 8

Scenario #6: The conflict widens Egypt attempts to draw off Greek resources and aid the Turks during in the GreekCypriot/Turkish hostilities. The plan is to attack Crete. NOTE: This is a large scenario. It is suggested that you play it on the floor with a 10 foot by 10 foot area. Optionally, a 5 foot by 5 foot table top game will work if you use centimeters for all movement and ranges instead of inches and feet. Greek Fleet Egyptian Fleet 4 - Glavkos class SSK (type 209/1100) 2 - Romeo class SSK 2 - Papanikolis class SSK (type 214) 2 - Perry class FFGHM 1 - Hydra class FFGHM (MEKO 200) 1 - Knox class FFGH 6 - Elli class FFGHM (Kortenaer) 1 - Descubierta class FFGHM 3 - Laskos class PGGF (La Combattante III) 1 - Jianghu-I class FFG 2 - Votsis class PGGF (La Combattante IIa) 2 - Tiger class PCFG 1 - Pyrpolitis class PBGM 2 - Ambassador III class PCFG 2 - Machitis class PGG 4 - Ramadan class PGGF 6 - OSA I class PTFG Victory conditions: Each submarine is worth 3 points. Each frigate is worth 1 point. Each corvette or patrol boat is worth a half a point. Each Dergach class is worth one quarter of a point. Each helicopter is worth a quarter of a point. The side accumulating the most points is the winner. A tie score is a draw. 9
