4 SIENA PRE-TOUR: September September 24/25: Home Siena, Italy Depart your home city on September 24 for an overnight flight to Florence, Italy. Upon arrival, you ll be greeted at the airport and transported to The Grand Hotel Continental, located in the heart of Siena, in what was once a private 17 th century palazzo. September 26: Siena Golf: Castiglion del Bosco Golf Club Our first round of golf is at the private Castiglion del Bosco Golf Club, part of an estate that dates back to the 15 th century but is now owned by Massimo Ferragamo. The setting for this Tom Weiskopf-designed layout is quite dramatic with breathtaking views of the surrounding Tuscan landscape and its many perched villages and stone farmhouses. Well-planned approach shots are key to mastering these greens. Tour: San Gimignano No tour of Tuscany would be complete without an excursion into the beautiful countryside to visit San Gimignano. Touring passengers visit this medieval walled city, made famous by its architecture, masterpieces of 14 th century art and preserved tower houses that were once a symbol of wealth and power, and now create the most unforgettable skyline in Tuscany. September 27: Siena Civitavecchia, Italy Golf: Borgo La Bagnaia While Bagnaia was an important spa town outside of Siena during the Middle Ages, today it is known for the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. championship golf course that meanders through the area s gently rolling hills. Borgo La Bagnaia is a challenging course that fits naturally into this Tuscan setting. Jones let the flow of the land dictate the routing of this impressive layout that finishes strong. Tour: Siena Touring passengers step outside their door to explore medieval Siena, considered by many to be the jewel of Tuscany. Our walking tour includes the Piazza del Campo, the Palazzo Pubblico with its impressive frescoes and the Cathedral with its elaborate marble façade. 6 SEPTEmbER 26/27: HOmE ROmE, ITAly Depart your home city on September 26 for an overnight flight to rome, italy. upon arrival, you will be transported to our gathering point at the regina Hotel baglioni. travelers will have the opportunity for lunch and some free time in rome before we depart for Sea Cloud II later that afternoon. rooms at the regina Hotel baglioni have been reserved for those guests wishing to arrive a day or two prior in order to enjoy more time in rome. SEPTEmbER 28: DAy AT SEA What better way to settle in aboard Sea Cloud II than to delight in a full day at sea? Sit back and watch skilled deckhands as they scale the masts that reach 180 feet high and set the sails on what is the finest hand-sailed square-rigger of our age. if the winds are favorable, we should be sailing by the aeolian island of Stromboli where we can see the regular, mild eruption of the island s famous volcano. SEPTEmbER 29: TAORmINA, ITAly Golf: il PiCCiolo Golf CluB located in a natural amphitheater on the northeastern base of mount etna, il picciolo meanders through ancient lava flows, and offers spectacular views of snow-covered mount etna. Hazelnut trees, oak woods, pine trees, eucalyptus and vineyards surround many holes. this parkland layout, which opened in 1989, makes full use of the natural topography, creating a unique and unforgettable playing experience. tour: mount etna and taormina our tour of mount etna leads us up the lava flows and snow-covered slopes to explore one of europe s natural wonders. after our memorable visit there, we enjoy lunch in taormina and have plenty of time to explore this cliff-hanging, old-world resort town, often compared to positano and Èze, france. our local guide leads us through the charming market, buzzing shops and cafés to the ancient greek theater, home to performances for two thousand years. theater seats look out over dramatic cliffs to the shimmering ionian Sea and a coastline that is visible for 30 miles

8 SEPTEmbER 30: SIRACUSA, ITAly our docking location in Siracusa s ancient harbor gives us easy access to this city steeped in history. this morning, our guided tour takes us on a stroll though the lanes of the old town on the island of ortigia, where baroque-style palaces line piazza archimede and elegant shops can be found along the streets. this afternoon, we put the sails up on Sea Cloud II as we continue westward around Sicily. OCTObER 1: RAGUSA, ITAly Golf: donnafugata Golf resort the fairways of the gary player-designed parkland course at Donnafugata are carved out of natural rolling hills, accentuated by the seasonal colors and scents of the region. players feel isolated on fairways hidden by mounds that offer captivating views of the sea and coastline. the serene setting belies the challenges presented by the Sirocco winds that come from africa. tour: modica our tour leads us to the charming hilltop town of modica. this unesco World Heritage site, home to 100 baroque churches, is recognized for some of the most beautiful architecture in Sicily. We also learn about the 400-year tradition of Sicilian chocolate making. as a part of Spain for many years, Sicily was one of the first european regions to gain access to cacao imported from South america. among the results are the delicious chocolate specialties for which modica is known

10 OCTObER 2: AGRIGENTO, ITAly Golf: Verdura Golf resort (West Course) Verdura is the culmination of Sir rocco forte s dream of creating europe s finest golf destination, bringing noted golf architect Kyle phillips to this site to design two golf courses set along pristine beach frontage. incorporating the best holes and terrain across both courses gives them each tremendous seaside closing runs. the highlight of the day will be the final four holes, a stirring collection of seaside play. golfers enjoy an afternoon tour at the Valley of temples. tour: mandranova a Sicilian cooking school is sure to be a highlight of our touring schedule as we visit mandranova in palma di montechiaro. We visit this stylish country farmhouse just before the start of the olive harvest season when the farm s 10,000 olive trees are bursting with fruit and delicious aromas. We ll start our morning with our hosts, Sylvia and giuseppe di Vincenzo who teach us to prepare authentic Sicilian cuisine in a hands-on culinary class. giuseppe s enthusiasm is infectious as he introduces us to the estate s award winning olive oils, which enhance our appreciation for this staple of italian cooking. OCTObER 3: AGRIGENTO, ITAly Golf: Verdura Golf resort (east Course) golfers will not be disappointed as they return to Verdura for a second round of golf but this time on the east course, where natural undulations make this a memorable layout. number 16 leads you out to the sea, before your dramatic finish on 17 and 18 along the craggy coastline. tour: the ValleY of temples today s tour is a short drive away at the Valley of temples in agrigento, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. a walk through this unesco World Heritage site, home to seven ancient temples, offers a glimpse of the beauty of this ancient cultural center that has inspired writers, poets and painters for centuries.
