Once again, we are extremely grateful to Viscount Linley, Orlando Rock and The Directors of Christie s for their generous support tonight has been another inspirational year for the Trusts. During the year, the Trusts have helped more than 50 charities and organisations across a broad spectrum of the community in St Vincent and the Grenadines. None of this would have been possible without your generous support and for that we thank you all. It really does make a difference in a country that so often struggles financially to support its most vulnerable citizens. So please be generous and rest assured your donations are very much appreciated. We do hope you have a wonderful evening. 7 THE TRUSTS AT WORK: FANCY TRAGEDY JANUARY 2015 assess immediate needs and provide practical and financial help and met with the Government to assess longer term issues. The Trusts provided EC$100,000 to assist with the purchase of a new school bus in order to help reduce the chance of recurrence of this kind of tragedy. On 12th January, the Fancy village school bus was involved in a tragic accident, falling from the road to the rocks below. Twentyone students were on board. Despite heroic rescue efforts, 8 students died, 2 were unaccounted for and 12 were injured. The Trusts responded by visiting the bereaved families to The new school bus arrived at the village on 19th March The Prime Minister, Trustees and many members of the local community took the opportunity to come together to remember those who had lost their lives. WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO RESPOND TO REQUESTS FOR HELP IN TIMES OF DISASTER 5

8 THE TRUSTS AT WORK: SCHOOL MEAL PROJECT The Trusts investment in this project ensures that every day 350 school children receive a hot lunch and provides employment opportunities for members of the local community. Without this nutrition many students would simply not be able to return to school for the afternoon session. Something as simple as a nutritious lunch can often make the difference between academic success and failure. 6

9 THE TRUSTS AT WORK: WORLD PEDIATRIC PROJECT Each year, World Pediatric Project (WPP) mobilises pediatric diagnostic and surgical teams to provide specialist care at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, care that would otherwise be unavailable (e.g. neurosurgery, orthopaedic, and re-constructive surgery). WPP anticipates reaching 650 children in The Trusts continue to support this important project, which gives children access to lifesaving care. 7

10 THE TRUSTS AT WORK: TREE PLANTING The Trusts support Treelympics, a tree planting initiative that mobilises schools all over the world to plant trees and educate students about preserving the natural environment. The Vincentian students were excited to take part in the project and to learn about the tree planting process. 116 schools took part in the project and 12,000 trees were planted. 8

11 THE TRUSTS AT WORK: CRAFT FAIR Guests on the island were delighted with the variety of arts, crafts and handmade items on display at the inaugural Mustique Craft Fair on the 5th August artisans from St Vincent and Bequia participated and welcomed the opportunity to showcase their hand crafted items to the Mustique market. Banana art, bags, baskets, jewellery, note-cards, soaps and beauty products were the top sellers. This was a real unification of the communities and sales were brisk! 9

12 THE TRUSTS AT WORK: BURSARY SUPPORT There are now 16 MCT students supported at the University of the West Indies Open Campus in St Vincent through the Trusts Bursary Programme. Awardees receive a contribution towards academic fees and a laptop. Online studies make for an intense schedule as the students balance studies with work and home life. Assigned mentors and a study buddy has made a huge difference in overcoming any challenges encountered. A special bursary was given to Kenville Horne for a laptop to assist with online studies for a Young Leaders programme at Oxford. Kenville was honoured with a Commonwealth Young Leaders Award from HM The Queen in June this year. MAKING THE DREAM OF TERTIARY EDUCATION A REALITY 10

21 LOT FOUR JONATHAN WYLDER SHROUDED SECRET Bronze Edition of 6 92 x 36cm - life-size Jonathan Wylder was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, in 1957 and held his first one-man show of pictures in Salisbury City Library where Sir Cecil Beaton was his first patron. He began to sculpt in his thirties and has since achieved international critical and artistic acclaim. He is inspired by the human form, particularly ballet dancers, and sculpts mainly in clay, having it cast into bronze through the traditional, lost wax process. 29 LOT EIGHT TCHALIK PIANO QUINTET PRIVATE CONCERT The Tchalik family are hugely talented and widely-acclaimed Franco-Russian musicians making up the Tchalik Piano Quartet and Quintet. They have played together since childhood and have performed in many of the most important concert venues in the world. In 2015, the Quartet was selected to the prestigious McGill String Quartet Academy (MISQA) in Montreal and the Académie de Musique de chambre de Villecroze. The Tchalik Piano Quintet will be giving two concerts on the 7th and 12th March 2016 in Mustique to raise funds for the Mustique Charitable Trusts. They have most generously agreed to perform in an additional private concert in Mustique in March, or in London or Paris. For those who do not have a piano they will perform as a String Quartet. (Valerie and Christophe Jungels-Winkler have very generously offered to cover travel expenses if you want the performance to take place in London). 32 TERMS & CONDITIONS 1. The UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust (Registered charity number: ) are holding the auction to raise funds for charitable purposes. No seller s commission, buyer s premium or VAT will be charged to any sale of the property listed in this catalogue. 2. Artist s Resale Right ( Droit de Suite ) If a lot is affected by this right it will be identified with the symbol X next to the lot number. The buyer agrees to pay to Christie s an amount equal to the resale royalty and we will pay such amount to the artist s collecting agent. Resale royalty applies where the Hammer Price is 1,000 Euro or more and the amount cannot be more than 12,500 Euro per lot. The amount is calculated as follows: Royalty for the portion of the Hammer Price (in Euro) 4.00% up to 50, % between 50, and 200, % between 200, and 350, % between 350, and 500, % in excess of 500,000 Invoices will, as usual, be issued in Pounds Sterling. For the purposes of calculating the resale royalty the Pounds Sterling/Euro rate of exchange will be the European Central Bank reference rate on the day of the sale. 3. Christie s acts as agent for the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust. Unless otherwise agreed, the sale of the Lots will result in contracts made between The UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust and the Buyer. 4. The Buyer shall be the person with the highest bid accepted by the auctioneer. 5. The auctioneer has the right to refuse any bid and to advance the bidding at his absolute discretion, and in the case of error or dispute, to put up an item for bidding again. 6. Statements by the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust in the auction catalogue or made orally or in writing elsewhere, regarding the authorship, origin, date, size, medium, attribution, genuineness, provenance, condition or estimated selling price of any Lot are merely statements of opinion, and are not to be relied upon as a statement of definitive fact. Neither Christie s nor the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust are responsible for the correctness of any statement or for any other errors of description or for any faults or defects in any Lots. Catalogue Illustrations are for guidance only. 7. Buyers are responsible for satisfying themselves concerning the condition of goods and the matters referred to in the catalogue description. 8. If a prospective Buyer gives the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust instructions to bid on their behalf the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust shall use all reasonable efforts to do so, provided these instructions are received no later than 24 hours before the sale. Bids should be placed in Pounds Sterling. If the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust receives commission bids on a particular Lot for identical amounts, and at auction these bids are the highest bids for the Lot, it will be sold to the person whose bid was received first. 9. If prospective Buyers make arrangements with the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust not less than 24 hours before the sale, the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust shall make reasonable efforts to contact the bidders to enable them to participate by telephone, but in no circumstances will Christie s or the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust be liable to any prospective Buyer as a result of failure to do so. 10. Subject to the auctioneer s discretion, the striking of the hammer marks the acceptance of the highest bid and the conclusion of a contract of sale between the UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust and the Buyer. 11. All physical lots are to be collected by the Buyer on the night of the sale, but no Lot can be taken unless it has first been paid for in full. The Buyer will not acquire title to the Lot until amounts due to UK Friends of the Mustique Charitable Trust have been paid in full. From the time of collection, the Lots will be entirely at the Buyer s risk. 12. If Buyers are unable to collect their purchases on the night of the sale, please contact Sally Renny on ukfriends@mustiquecharitabletrust.com to arrange collection or international delivery. The Buyer is responsible for all packaging and courier cost whether in the UK or overseas. 13. These Conditions of Sale are subject to English law, which shall apply to their construction as well as to their effect.
