Dear Leaders, Now is the time to begin preparing for your stay at Cub Resident Camp at Kia Kima, in the summer of 2019! There are two sessions from which you can choose, June 1 4 and June 5 8. This Leaders Guide has been assembled to help you plan a successful and fun summer camping experience for every Scout in your pack. At Kia Kima, our staff works diligently to ensure that Scouts have the best experience possible, in support of your pack s year-round program. Please encourage each Scout and his or her family to participate in summer camp. If a family has financial concerns, please direct them to the Campership Application, which can be found on the Kia Kima website; we want every Scout to be able to participate, regardless of ability to pay or circumstance. Research has shown that Cub Scouts who participate in Kia Kima programs are more likely to become Scouts, BSA and to advance to the Eagle rank summer camp changes lives! We are excited about our Hawaiian theme, and we encourage you to get fully involved. Many packs will come to camp equipped with props, costumes, tables decorations, and other spirit items that reflect the Hawaiian theme. This will enhance your Scouts experience and add to the rich program that we have prepared. On behalf of the Chickasaw Council and the entire Kia Kima staff, we look forward to seeing you at camp this summer! Sincerely, Jeremy Palazolo Director of Support Services Chickasaw Council, BSA

2! Packs should plan to arrive at Kia Kima for Resident Camp between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the opening day of their session. SAFETY & REGISTRATION Registration Our goal is to make the registration process easy and efficient for everyone. An overview of the registration steps are listed in the Registration Packet, which can be found in the back of this guide. Additional help, along with last minute updates and tips can also be found on our website at Confirmation & Changes When we receive your Financial Preregistration Form, we will send you an that will include a username and password for our online registration system. This system will be used to register your pack s first and second year Webelos for camp activities. Online registration will not be available until after April 15. Here are some tips for online registration: 1. Webelos will be registered individually, but sessions should be scheduled in such a manner as to ensure that adult partners will be accompanying your group. No Webelos will be permitted to attend a class without an accompanying adult. 2. Webelos may register for any of the Webelos activities. Leaders should pay special attention to the differences between the activity badges offered. 3. Wolves and Bears will be assigned walking groups (generally no more than 20 per group) and will participate in a pre-structured program. Operation Dates After May 24, the camp will be in operation, and staff will be available in the camp office to answer any of your questions. Please use the number in the table below. 6 3 Health Forms All Scouts, leaders, and siblings attending camp must have a completed Annual Health and Medical Record form. Youth participants and adults should use the newest form. These forms are available at It is recommended that Parts A, B and C of the health form be completed including the examination by a medical professional. However, properly completed Parts A and B will suffice. Please keep in mind that the health form process is designed for each participant s personal safety. Due diligence on this process could make the difference between a great experience or a poor one. Older versions of the health forms cannot be accepted. Each Scout, leader, and sibling will have a health recheck after his or her arrival as part of the check-in procedure. The pack s health forms will be kept on file for the session with the Camp Health Officer. They will be returned to the Cubmaster at the end of the session. Even if a leader or participant is arriving late in the session, all efforts should be made to have that person s health history with the pack during checkin, so that the Health Officer can review the forms, even before the leader arrives. If a Scout or leader is arriving late to Resident Camp, and they were not able to give the health forms to the leader before camp, then they will need to give these forms to the Health Officer upon arrival in camp. Any participant who does not have a completed health form will be restricted from all camp activities. The information need to be complete and accurate. Make sure that each health form has been signed by all parties in the appropriate places. Please keep a copy of each Scout s physical for your records. Safety While we want every Scout to have a fun and exciting stay at Resident Camp, safety is a top priority in our program, in the campsite and around camp. Please take note of the policies and procedures to ensure a fun and safe experience. In Case of Accident or Emergency Kia Kima has a Health Lodge that is open 24 hours a day and is manned by staff members trained in handling minor accidents and illnesses. There are also local clinics and a hospital nearby. If this kind of treatment is required, the Scout s parents will be notified by telephone, and their wishes concerning treatment will be respected. If such a trip is required, we ask that one of the Scout s leaders drive him to the hospital. This way, the Health Officer will still be in camp to treat any other potential injuries. Prescription medicine needs to be kept and handled by a designated adult leader within the unit. The Health Lodge is available to store medicine that needs to be kept cold. No prescription medication will be paid for by the camp or the Chickasaw Council. Please send your Scouts with all their normal medication, including any behavioral medicine and allergy medication. Camp emergency procedures will be covered at the opening leaders meeting. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide

4 Liquid & LP Fuels Liquid-fueled equipment (kerosene, gasoline, white gas, etc.) is to be used only by adults. Lanterns or stoves may be used at campsites, under adult supervision. Empty propane cylinders should be taken home with the pack and not placed in fireplaces or trashcans, as they may explode when heated. Dangerous Wildlife Kia Kima is a wilderness setting where it is common to encounter various forms of wildlife. Danger ous wildlife at Kia Kima could include: venomous snakes, spiders, ticks, etc. Bites from these animals are extremely rare, but precautions should be taken. To the right is a list of a few tips to keep you comfortable at camp. A few helpful tips for a fun and safe camping experience: No riding in the back of trucks or trailers Wear closed-toed shoes Always use the buddy system: two or more Scouts go everywhere together Fires should be completely extinguished before leaving the campsite; please do not create new fire rings Try to keep knife use to a minimum Use insect repellents containing DEET or Permethrin Carry flashlights when walking at night Shake out clothing and shoes before wearing them Keep food out of tents Check for tick bites daily (tick bites treated within 12 hours rarely have any long-term effects)! It is a national policy that Scouts and adults are not permitted to ride in the bed of trucks or trailers. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019

5! Cub Scout packs must have a 5 to 1 youth to leader ratio for Webelos and a 3 to 1 leader ratio for Cub Scouts. GENERAL INFORMATION Leaders in Camp All units are required to have at least two adult leaders in camp at all times. Cub Scout packs must also have a 5 to 1 youth to leader ratio for Webelos and a 3 to 1 leader ratio for Cub Scouts. This policy is required by the Chickasaw Council. All leaders must be registered members of the BSA, and must meet the qualifications for the leadership position in which they serve. The unit leader must be at least 21 years of age. Any additional leaders must be at least 18 years of age. Leaders may rotate when necessary, but at least two adults must be with the unit 24 hours a day. Parents, committee members, and other adults who accompany the unit to camp must meet all of the above requirements. Leaders, please note, it is in the best interest of your Scouts to have consistent leadership throughout your pack s stay at camp; rotation of leaders can create difficult transitions for the Scouts. For units bringing five or more Scouts, the unit leader and one assistant may attend camp at no charge. The fee for each additional adult is $95.00 for the week. Each adult space provides meals, tentage, and a Resident Camp Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019 patch and a T-shirt. The official leader count for the unit will be the number of additional leader-spaces plus the first two leaders. Units that rotate leaders during the week can fill a leader-space with more than one person staying different parts of the session. For example, one leader might stay the first night and another the second or third. In that the two leaders do not stay in camp at the same time, they use only one adult space and pay only $ They will, however, only receive one patch for the one adult-space. Additional patches are available for purchase from the Trading Post. The general rule is that the unit needs to pay for the maximum number of adults staying in camp at any one time. If, however, additional leaders will be in camp for only one or two days and do not wish to pay for the entire session, they may provide their own tent and pay for meals on an individual basis. They will not receive a patch, but may purchase one from the Trading Post. Packs with a high ratio of adults to Scouts may be contacted by our administrative staff to ensure that there is enough tent space for everyone.! Packs that bring five or more Scouts will receive two free leader spots; these spots will be credited at camp check-in.

Correspondence All Resident Camp correspondence and registration material should be sent to the Chickasaw Council Scout Service Center until the middle of May. After May 24, all correspondence should then be sent directly to camp. The proper addresses are listed on page 2. To allow enough time to receive and process registration, do not send any money or registration materials through the Postal Service less than one week prior to your arrival at camp. is available at Registration Procedures Resident Camp Application Submit the Resident Camp Application along with a $50 deposit to secure your campsite at Kia Kima. Please keep in mind that some sites may already be taken. Step 1: Pack Count Form (KK1) By April 2, secure a deposit of $50 per Cub Scout planning to attend Resident Camp. Payments can be made at the Chickasaw Council Scout Service Center (please pay as a pack). Be sure to fill out the corresponding paperwork in the registration packet. After this deposit is received, your unit will be granted access to the online registration system; the online system will not go live until after April 15. Register your Scouts and leaders online. Webelos will have options for the different classes they wish to take. Cub Scouts should be registered as Wolves and Bears, and they will be assigned to walking groups at check-in. Step 2: Financial Preregistration Form (KK2) By May 15, submit your second payment of $100 per Scout to the Scout office. Submit your T-shirt sizes either online or by paper (not both). Packs that submit T-shirt sizes by this date will receive a complimentary T-shirt. Packs that do not submit T-shirt sizes may purchase them in the Trading Post. Packs have the option of taking their swim test (you can use KK4, Swim Check Form) prior to arriving at camp. This is encouraged as it will expedite your check-in process. Step 3: Financial Summary Form (KK3) The remaining balance of camp fees can be paid by check, card, or cash at check-in. Free adult leader spaces earned will be credited at this time. If you wish to order additional photos, fill out KK5, Pack Photo Order Form, and bring it with you to camp. Transportation & Parking Each unit is responsible for the safe transportation of its members to and from camp, and to make sure that all vehicles meet national insurance requirements. Transporting Scouts or adults in the bed of a pickup truck or trailer whether it is covered or uncovered is against the policy of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as poor judgment. Parking is provided at the camp entrance for leaders and visitors. The main parking areas are the gravel area to the northeast of the Administration Building and the gravel area west of the Handicrafts pavilion. In addition, there are some localized parking areas provided for unit vehicles that may be more convenient for some campsites. These areas are marked on the camp map at the end of this guide. Vehicles are not to be parked in the campsite during your stay. Packs are encouraged to leave a trailer in the campsite in order to store gear. A locking box will provide a place to secure and safeguard gear. To keep traffic in camp to a minimum, only camp vehicles will be allowed to operate during sessions. Pack vehicles will be allowed into camp during check-in and checkout for the purposes of loading and unloading of personal and pack equipment. Driving is only permitted for driving to Camp Cherokee for aquatic activities. Please observe the camp speed limit of 15 miles per hour. 6 Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019

7 Traditional Campsites In our traditional campsites, Kia Kima provides two-man canvas tents along with two steel beds with vinyl covered mattresses. These tents sit on individual wooden platforms with the exception of Dancing Bear, Yellow Dog, and Foxfire. Dancing Bear has concrete barrier-free platforms while the other three have megadecks. One of the megadecks in Foxfire is pictured on the right. There is also a small cooking pavilion in every traditional site except the newest one, Twisted Trees. One picnic table per campsite is also provided. Most campsites also have a pit latrine and a cold shower, but every campsite is also closely located to one of the public shower houses that have hot water and flush toilets. Troops will be given enough tents to have two people sleeping in each tent, including adult leaders. There is ample space in each campsite for adult leaders who prefer to bring their own solo tent. If you choose to bring some of your own tents, please communicate this to the Resident Camp Director before camp as space for these tents will become a consideration in your campsite assignment. The average height of the beds is 14 from the floor to the bottom of the bed if you are looking for footlockers that can fit underneath. Per Youth Protection Guidelines, adults cannot stay in the same tent as Scouts unless the Scout is his or her own son or daughter. Tentless Campsites Tentless campsites are for packs who wish to bring their own tents or hammocks. Kia Kima does not provide any platform tents in these sites. On the chart, Tent Pads is how many tents can fit in the campsite. This number does not include how many hammocks can fit in the site. Each site has a picnic table and enough space if a troop wishes to bring a dining fly. We will not be moving Kia Kima tents into the campsite. If a Scout chooses to hammock camp instead of bringing a tent, they should do a test run of their set up on another campout before arriving at camp! Tents are NOT provided in tentless campsites. Units MUST bring their own tents or hammocks for these sites. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019! 11 8 Scouts with Special Needs Dancing Bear is our barrier-free site at Camp Osage. It will accommodate units of up to 58 that have Scouts with special needs. This campsite is equipped with concrete tent platforms and walkways that connect to the nearby Central Shower House. Dancing Bear also has electricity in the site. Other packs may reserve Dancing Bear, but WILL be relocated without notice if a need arises. Priority is given for packs with special needs, not packs that register early. If an adult requires a CPAP machine, we strongly suggest a portable battery as most campsites do not have electricity. Units staying in campsites near public shower houses may bring extension cords to run power for the sole purpose of medical devices.! Adults with CPAP machines need to bring a portable battery. Quartermaster Showers and Facilities Hot showers are available at the Central, West, and East Shower Houses. In order to adhere to Youth Protection policies, adults are not allowed to take showers with youth under any circumstances. The Central Showers have separate areas for adult males, females, and youth. West and East Showers are the newer style of shower house which have multiple private single-person changing/shower stalls. Some campsites also have cold showers available along with a latrine. There are also centrally-located flush toilets in the Dining Hall. In addition to what is in the campsite, the camp provides equipment through the camp Quartermaster. The Quartermaster is located beside the Trading Post. Items such as brooms, water hoses, cleaning agents, tools, and American flags are available for checkout. These items must be returned clean and in good condition before the pack checks out at the end of their session. Packs are encouraged to bring their own items from home. Hammocks More and more packs are beginning to bring hammocks with them and camp in them overnight. Hammocks are welcome at Kia Kima, with a few things to keep in mind. Webbing straps should be used around the trees to protect the trees. Hammocks should not be anchored to tents or pavilions and should not be stacked above each other. They should also not be hung higher than you are willing to fall! Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019

9 Arriving Packs should plan to arrive at Kia Kima between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the opening day of your session. No one will be available to handle early arrivals. Check-in Upon arriving at camp, a Camp Guide will meet the unit in the parking lot to guide the unit through the checkin process. The unit will first take a pack photo at the Kia Kima sign. The printed photo is free and additional photos are available for $5 each. The Cubmaster should then report to the Administration Building to meet the camp administrative staff. At this time, the Cubmaster should have a final count of Scouts, adults, and siblings; Scout schedules; and any unpaid fees as determined on the Financial Summary Form. While the Cubmaster is checking in at the Administration Building, the Camp Guide and the assistant leader will take the unit to the assigned campsite to begin set up and for the health recheck. The assistant leader should have the health forms and, if swim checks were completed prior to camp, the Swim Check Roster (available in the Registration Packet in the back of this Leader Guide). Everyone, youth and adult, must have a current health form. There should be a written explanation for any youth who needs special medical treatment. Our staff will then recheck the health forms with the Scouts. The recheck is to make sure that no significant changes have occurred since the physical examination was given. A buddy tag, which is required for aquatics activities, will be issued for each person with a health form. Swim Checks & Camp Tour Once the health rechecks have been completed and the Cubmaster has returned from the Administration Building, the Camp Guide will take the unit to the Camp Cherokee Waterfront for swim checks and then a camp tour. As part of the tour, the Camp Guide will point out important camp landmarks and program areas. In order to participate in aquatics activities at Kia Kima, every camper, including adults, must complete a BSA swimmer test. We strongly encourage packs to conduct swim checks prior to arriving at Resident Camp, and the Swim Check Form (KK4) is included at the back of this guide. Completing the swim checks prior to camp will speed up your check-in process, especially if it is raining on check-in day. There are three levels of swimming ability: Nonswimmer, Beginner, and Swimmer. The specifics of the test are available in the Guide to Safe Scouting. The waterfront at Kia Kima has separate designated areas for different levels of swimming ability based on the depth and the size. Scouts and adults must have passed the Swimmer-level test to participate on the Blob, Iceberg, or Slide. Beginners may paddle in a canoe as long as they are accompanied by a Swimmer. After the tour, the pack may return to the campsite. This is a good time to get settled and prepare for supper. The Scout field uniform is required for all evening meals and campfires. Leaders Meetings A meeting of key leaders will be held on the afternoon of the opening day. At this meeting, members of the camp staff will give an overview of camp policies and procedures, and special program activities that will be offered during the week. Leaders will also have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have. In addition, leaders meetings will be held each morning after breakfast. At this meeting, Cubmasters will get the opportunity to ask questions, and get updates on any special events going on in camp. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide

10 Uniform The official Cub Scout field uniform is recommended for wear by both youth and adults while in camp. This uniform commonly referred to as Class A uniform is to be worn to supper each evening and to camp-wide activities such as campfires and Vespers. The Class B uniform consists of Scout shorts and a Scouting T-shirt and may be worn at all other times during camp. Since the field uniform is worn so much, here are a few tips to help it stay fresh longer: Don t wear it at times when it does not have to be worn; change clothes after supper to avoid getting it dirty. Bring a hanger for the shirt and keep the neckerchief and slide (if worn) in the same place each time so they won t get lost. It would be a good idea to have several pairs of Scout socks to avoid wearing the same pair all session. Dining Hall With everyone visiting three times a day, the Dining Hall is the most popular place in camp! Before breakfast and supper, packs line up in formation on the parade ground outside of the Dining Hall. The Program Director will lead a flag ceremony, take roll call of the packs, and lead grace. Scouts and leaders should wear their complete Scout Field Uniform to supper to retire the colors. After the meal, the Program Director usually has some important announcements for the camp. We ask that all Scouts remain in the Dining Hall until dismissed by the staff. The waiter system is used in the Dining Hall for setting the tables and cleaning up after meals. It is important to stop at the Dining Hall during the camp tour for a demonstration of how the waiter system works. Commissioner Service After your Camp Guide finishes helping you check in, the camp Commissioner will be your main resource for campsite needs. The Commissioner staff will stop by the campsites each day to visit and will make sure you have all the supplies and equipment that you need. If there is something broken or missing in your site, they will work to see that it is fixed or replaced. You can also meet with your Commissioner at the morning leaders meeting. In addition, Commissioners are knowledgeable about the program and can answer questions or help you plan pack activities. Dietary Restrictions At Kia Kima Scout Reservation, our first priority is the safety and well-being of our campers. We have systems in place to ensure that all Scouts and leaders who have special dietary needs or food allergies are accommodated at Resident Camp. We can store supplemental food in our Dining Hall kitchen, prepare a modified menu, or work with the Scout, parent(s), or leaders to provide alternatives. Please make the administration and food service aware of any specific dietary needs or food allergies prior to camp. This can be done by ing the Reservation Director (director@kiakima.net), or by calling the council office or camp. In doing this, the administration team can communicate with Scouts/parents and leaders before their stay at camp. When you arrive at camp please also talk with the Business Manager or the Dining Hall Manager to confirm arrangements. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019

11 Trading Post Kia Kima operates a Trading Post which is located in the middle of the camp. Our Trading Post stocks a wide variety of items. In addition to crafts, the Trading Posts also stock concession items. Some of the items include: camp hats, toiletries, craft kits, pocket knives, Slush Puppies, ice cream, batteries, camp T-shirts, patches, and other souvenirs. We recommend that Scouts bring $25 $40 to spend in the Trading Post. This will generally pay for memorabilia and a few snacks throughout the session. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards. During the summer we also offer an Online Trading Post at The Trading Post is open during the day and evening, except at meals and during camp-wide activities. It is a popular place for Scouts and leaders to get a snack and relax! Lost & Found A central lost and found is located at the Trading Post. If you lose something during the week, check with the Trading Post staff to see if it has been turned in. In addition, the aquatics area and the Dining Hall both have a small lost and found area of items that have been left in those respective locations. To make it easier to recover lost items, Scouts should clearly mark their personal possessions with their name and pack number. Wireless Internet The Dining Hall has wireless internet, which is open for adults to use. The password will be given to leaders at the opening leaders meeting and we ask that it is not given to Scouts. The Administration Building also has wireless internet for adults; however, we ask that adults reserve this for adults who need to take care of business while at camp. Postal Mail Scouts may receive mail at camp. Please send mail addressed as follows: Kia Kima Scout Reservation Pack [#], [Scout s Name] 629 Kia Kima Trail Hardy, Arkansas Please be sure to include the Scout s pack number on all mail; this will make it much easier to route the mail to the proper recipient. Also include a return address on all mail in case a letter arrives at camp after the Scout has left. Mail service is dependable; however, for such a short session as Resident Camp, it is recommended that parents mail their letters before the Scout arrives. A letter or postcard can take from two to four days to reach camp. All mail can be picked up by the Cubmaster in the Administration Building. There is also a mailbox outside the Administration Building where outgoing letters and postcards can be mailed. FedEx and UPS also deliver daily to Kia Kima.! Letters should be mailed early enough to arrive in time! Letters that arrive after the Scout has left will be returned to the sender. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide

12 Kia Kima Grace As we soar on eagle s wings We thank the Lord for these great things: For nourishing food, for our physical strength, For our cheerful trails, and the South Fork banks. Visitors Visitors should plan to arrive at Kia Kima in accordance with the daily schedule of activities. Scouts will be involved in sessions or free-time activities until 5:00 p.m. daily and will need time to take a shower and change clothes before the evening meal. The evening pack activities in camp will last until approximately 9:30 p.m., so visitors should plan to leave shortly after that so Scouts and leaders can get a good night s sleep. Vehicles should be parked in the camp parking lot, but not driven into camp. Visitors should park, check in at the Administration Building, and then walk to the campsite area. Please note that the campwide speed limit is 15 mph. If desired, visitors may eat in the Dining Hall. Visitors may purchase tickets for meals from the Administration Building as they enter camp. The visitor meal price is $5.00 per person, and there is no meal charge for visiting children under the age of 6. Seating space can be a concern for visitors as packs have assigned seating, so visitors should be prepared to be at the back of the line, and expect to sit in an area apart from the pack as space allows. In addition, they should notify their Scout s Cubmaster, who will make arrangements with the Dining Hall Manager. There are no facilities at Kia Kima to allow visitors to stay overnight. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019

13 PROGRAM INFORMATION Daily Schedule Each day follows the same schedule shown on page 14. The schedule may vary for check-in and check-out. On opening and closing day, the evening activity is a campwide campfire in the Council Ring starting at 8:30 p.m. Everyone in camp is expected to attend and wear the Scout field uniform. There are a variety of activities available from which to choose on the other evenings. Vespers & Chaplain Vespers is a short inter-faith worship service held on the first evening of camp. Vespers is held at the Chapel, situated on a bluff overlooking the South Fork River. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Members of the Kia Kima staff will conduct Vespers services, with assistance from visiting clergy. Scouts and units may volunteer to assist with Vespers by talking with the Program Director. Scouts who are working on a religious award are especially encouraged to do so. Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Please realize that the age and rank of each Scout in your pack needs to be carefully examined before registering for programs. Take a close look at the programs and be sure to register your Scouts for the correct program for Resident Camp. In other words, think now as if you are in June 2019 already. Your current Tiger Cubs will be Wolves. Wolves become Bears and so forth. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide

14 Campfires Campfires bring out the spirit and fun of camp. We have two campfires planned for Resident Camp. Saturday and Wednesday nights will feature grand opening campfires for each session. It will kick off the session with an exciting beginning. At opening campfire, the spirit of Resident Camp will come alive! The staff will introduce the camp to the theme and act out the exciting story on stage. The thrilling conclusion will be at closing campfire on Monday and Friday nights. Visitors are encouraged to attend these campfires. All campfires start at 8:30 p.m., and should conclude around 9:30 p.m. Any visitors in camp should plan to depart after the campfire show has ended. 25 22 WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP What to Bring Other than the basics, different people and packs will bring different items with them. A good exercise is to think about your perfect stay at camp and bring the items that you see in your mental picture. If you want to spend the afternoon fishing on the edge of the lake, don t forget your fishing pole and tackle box. Unit Equipment To help keep you from forgetting those all important items, we have a list to help you when you are packing. Pack flag Den flags Lanterns 8x10 Tarp Water hose Water bottles First aid kits Bow saws Rope Brooms Lawn chairs T-shirts Ice chest full of favorite drinks (water is the best) Camp stove and coffee pot Scout handbook so things can be signed off at camp Complete Scout uniform Personal Equipment Shorts or long pants Underwear Sunglasses Sweater or jacket Extra shoes or boots Sunscreen Poncho or rain gear Notebook/pencil or pen Watch (very important) Wallet (extra spending money) Washcloth and towel Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) Flashlight with new batteries Sleeping bag or sheets & blankets Alarm clock (optional)(battery operated) Footlocker, suitcase or backpack Swim trunks Socks Hat, if desired Camera Insect repellent (containing DEET or Permethrin) NOTE: Ice will not be issued at camp for campsite use. Bags of ice will be available for purchase at the Trading Post. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019

23 Tips Tip 1 A daypack (book bag) is recommended to help keep things together while hiking around camp from day to day. An extra gallon-sized ziplock bag keeps those wet swim trunks off the other dry items in the pack. Tip 2 Flip flops are recommended for the shower houses; however, regular shoes should be worn to and from the shower facility. Foot injuries can be serious at camp due to the high level of walking and can result in a trip home or worse. Tip 3 Scouts bringing a footlocker or locking suitcase should bring an extra key and give it to the Cubmaster. That way, if one key is lost, the spare one will be stored safely. Tip 4 With the heat and humidity of June, it is recommended to have a change of clothing for each day of the session. What Not to Bring Personal rifles or other firearms, ammunition, and bows are not allowed in camp; only those supplied by the Shooting Sports area are to be used. Sheath knives are not allowed at camp. Any such equipment brought to camp must be delivered to the Resident Camp Director when the pack checks in; it will be returned when the pack checks out. In addition, no pets of any kind are allowed at camp; this is policy of the Boy Scouts of America. We recommend that items such as radios, MP3 players, electronic games and other electronic devices not be brought to camp. Resident Camp is an outdoor experience, and these items are not appropriate to that experience. Finally, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, and illegal substances of any kind are strictly prohibited at camp. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide

24 FREE TIME ACTIVITIES Fun stuff you can do at camp! There is plenty for packs and individual Scouts to do at Resident Camp. Many of open activities have been planned and will be announced daily. These activities include BB shoots, free swim, boating, climbing, archery, Water Slide, Iceberg, Blob, games, and crafts. However, the pack is free to do other activities during the open time such as hiking the many trails throughout the Reservation or fishing from the banks of the South Fork River and John A. Cooper Lake. They can also just relax in the campsite with a good game of cards around the campfire. Kia Kima is a place for youth to have fun and experience the outdoors! Our staff will do everything they can to make sure the Scouts are having fun throughout the day with special activities and games for them. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019

25 CHECK-OUT Coming and Going The safety and security of every Scout is of paramount concern to all leaders and staff. To enhance our security efforts we will require that parents, leaders, or Scouts who are checking into camp over the course of the session to register at the Administration Building. Scouts who are leaving camp early will need to check out at the Administration Building with our staff, while being accompanied by an adult from the pack to authorize the departure. Pack leaders should encourage all guests and visitors to depart by 9:30 p.m. If there are particular concerns of an individual Scout s well-being and protection, the Cubmaster should contact the Resident Camp Director. Leaders wishing to visit town for supplies should sign out at the Administration Building. Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide

26 Check-out The check-out procedure will begin on Tuesday and Saturday, and should be completed before 10:30 a.m. Any unit with special checkout considerations should make plans through the Program Director or the Resident Camp Director. Breakfast will be delivered to your campsite by your Camp Guide. This is so you can quickly eat, pack your gear, and clean up your campsite without having to walk back and forth between the Dining Hall. Borrowed equipment will be returned to the Quartermaster, and the Camp Guide will inspect the site to be certain that it is clean. Trash should be deposited in the dumpsters on the way out of camp. The cost of any damaged property or equipment will be charged to the pack. The Cubmaster should stop by the Administration Building on the way out of camp to complete the check-out procedure by picking up advancement reports and medical records. The Check-Out Process at a Glance! All packs should plan to have departed no later than 10:00 a.m. so that campsites can be prepared for the next session. Campsite Your Camp Guide will deliver breakfast to you in your campsite. Pack up all your gear and clean up the site one last time. Remember that Scouts always leave a place better than they found it! Trash Bag up all trash and take it to the dumpster on your way out. Quartermaster Return any borrowed equipment before you leave camp. Administration Building Before leaving camp, stop by the Administration Building to pick up your paperwork. Ensure you have all your advancement reports and health forms as it is easier to fix these issues at camp than when you are back at home. Campsite Deposit Since you are already in the Administration Building, go ahead and place your deposit to come back next year! Cub Scout/Webelos Resident Camp Leaders Guide 2019
