2 WESTSIDE YMCA DAY CAMP The Westside Branch of the Lansing YMCA is a great place for kids to spend the smmer. Yor child will have fn, learn new skills, make new friends, experience diversity and learn to appreciate the world more flly. Located close to the I-496 Waverly Rd. exit, it is easily accessible from all parts of Greater Lansing. Smmer camps take fll advantage of this 70,000 sq. ft. family facility. Campers swim, play gym games, skate and scale the climbing wall. Field trips from the branch rond ot the experience. We invite yo to tor the facility in person, or at or website. 4 Core Crazy for Vales We re 4 core crazy abot or core vales: caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility. Or programs teach positive vales. Or staff members are professional role models, yong adlts of good character who relate well to children. Their training highlights character development and challenges them to demonstrate the vales they teach. Depending on the age of the camper, the average conselor to camper ratio is 1:12 and often lower. Excellent Reptation Westside YMCA smmer day camps are affordable and accessible. The environment is positive and children are safe and at ease. Generations of commnity leaders have spent childhood smmers at the Lansing YMCA. They say their YMCA experiences helped develop the core character vales which became the fondation of their sccess. Yor child, too, can benefit from this smmer experience. Age Appropriate Activities All smmer camp programs have been designed with yor child in mind. Campers are groped with those of similar ages and take part in activities that are appropriate for their age grop. HOURS OF OPERATION Westside YMCA camps are from 8:45a.m. - 4:00p.m., Mon. throgh Fri. Extended Care is available (No Camp Jly 4th)

3 2017 WESTISDE DAY CAMP e Extended Care Extended care is available for all Westside smmer camps. Extended care hors are from 6:45am to the start of camp and from the end of camp to 6:00pm. Yo can drop off or pick p yor child any time dring the extended care hors. The fee is $40/week/ child. Breakfast and a healthy afternoon snack will be offered to every child in attendance each camp day. Completed Registration Form Only applications completed in fll, signed and accompanied by the appropriate fees will be processed. ACCORDING TO MICHIGAN STATE LAW: Concssion forms mst be completed and signed before attending camps. Deposits & Late Fees A $35 deposit per week is reqired for day camp registrations. Participants who register after 10:00pm on the Tesday prior to the week they wish to attend will be charged a $10 late fee. All balances are de by the Friday before camp begins to avoid a $10 late fee. Cancellations, Changes & Refnds Cancellations received seven (7) days before the affected week receive a fll refnd less a $35 processing fee. Refnds reqested after this time reqire a medical certificate. Once the week begins, no refnds or credits will be given. There will be a $5 fee to switch from one camp to another or from one week to another. Children with Special Needs Yor special needs child will enjoy the smmer in a fn, inclsive and interactive environment. Or experienced staff will help yor child feel welcome and safe. All participants mst have basic daily living skills. Or staff to child ratio is 1:12; Westside Y smmer camp program is not designed to provide one-to-one care. In this camp we will learn to se everyday hosehold items to invent new machines and explore creative design soltions sing STEM techniqes. Minecraft Campers will get away from the screen and jmp into the game. Yor kid will se srvival skills, creativeness, and map reading to explore the basic principles of the game of exploration, gathering resorces, crafting, and combat. Get ready to bild.and DESTROY! Natres Gone Wild NEW! Campers will learn what exists in natre in or very own backyard! We will work hands on to learn abot plant and animals and how they srvive. This week will inclde a trip to a local natre facility. Neptne s Adventre This week campers will explore the Roman God of water by getting soaked. All activities will involve water swimming, sponge tag, bcket relays and a trip to the East Lansing Aqatics Center! Srvivor This week is bilt arond the Srvivor television show. Teams will receive colored bandanas at the beginning of the week and compete in challenges that will test strength, endrance, and wisdom. Parents don t worry no one is getting voted off. Time Travelers Ever wonder what it was like to live in a different era? Well here s yor chance. Campers will time travel dring the week to learn how life was when the dinosars roamed all the way to the present day. Under the Sea H2O, Aga, Water, whatever yo call it, everyone will be getting wet this week exploring what lives nder the sea and what we can do to preserve their habitat. Msic Makers NEW! Stdents will learn how to break down games into their core components, and how to reassemble those components into a coherent and entertaining play experience. By focsing on designing the player experience, stdents will learn critical and creative thinking skills, as well as how to think like a designer, which is a transferable skill to many different fields. ITEC Lego Robotics NEW! Teaching Lego Robotics as a way of fostering interactive engagement with STEM related concepts is linked to academic sccess for stdents. Lego Robotics not only introdces basic programming and mathematical skills, bt also teaches collaboration and commnication skills, both of which are soght after 21st centry working skills. We will also have the chance to get p close and personal with some at Binder Park Zoo. Kitchen Creations This hands-on camp will teach campers specific cooking skills and clinary techniqes. Different recipes will be offered each day and campers will be taght concepts of health and ntrition, kitchen science and have fn with food related crafts. Parents will be invited to eat in or very own YMCA Restarant on Friday! Leadership This camp is all abot bilding leaders in or commnity. Throgh low ropes challenges and grop games/discssions we will work on team bilding, commnication, and problem solving strategies to make s better leaders. Lights, Camera, Reality Campers will learn what happens behind the scenes and se hand held cameras to make their own movie! They will have the chance to write a script, make a set, se a camera and even have their very own cast party. Mad Labs Science Camp Campers will get down and dirty while making interesting discoveries in labs by experimenting with the ycky, weird sbstances that yo know and love. Experiments will inclde making Slime, Homemade Flbber, Popsicle Stick Cataplts and many more. This camp will inclde a trip to Impressions 5. Master Chef Jr. This hands-on camp will teach campers specific cooking skills and clinary techniqes that are appropriate for or yonger campers. Learn the many styles of dance from modern to hip hop all the way to breakdancing. The end of this week will inclde a prodction for the rest of camp and yor families. Otdoor Srvival In this camp we will learn all abot the 5 basic needs for srvival. Campers will bild shelters, forage for food, learn to collect clean water, and how to bild a fire. Performing Arts Camp NEW! Campers will learn what it takes to pt on a Broadway show from set design to costme selection. Grops will write their own script, choreograph their own moves in order to pt on a performance on Friday. Skating Camp This week we will spend extra time in the rink playing games and working on their skating techniqe. Activities will inclde hockey, relay games, msical chairs, and a good old fashioned dance party. Splish Splash Water, waves and a water park! Under the direction of the Beekman Riding Center, campers will learn basic care, feeding, and some techniqes of natral horsemanship, on the grond and in the saddle. 7 SPORTS CAMPS 2017 WESTSIDE DAY CAMP The Westside YMCA sports camps provide school age campers with an opportnity to explore a specific sport while incorporating the great activities that are a part of the traditional camp experience. Campers will receive instrction and gidance from accomplished staff, athletes, and coaches while practicing their skills each morning and have the opportnity to participate in swimming, skating, gaga, and rock wall climbing in the afternoons. For days this week campers will leave the Y to learn archery from the experts at Demmer Archery Center on camps. They will learn the components of the bow and proper techniqes of shooting. Baseball campers will also go to a Lansing Lgnts game on Tesday Agst 1st bring yor baseball hat and mitt! Mst be registered by Jly 25th to garantee a ticket to the game. Basketball Work on shooting, dribbling, defense, team work and conditioning with YMCA coaches. Campers will play instrctional games to improve skill and will have a chance to show them off in an end of week scrimmage. Everyone will have a chance to play and activities will be divided according to ability. Cheerleading Instrctors will help campers learn exciting cheers, chants, jmps, basic stnts and basic gymnastics. Participants will have the chance to pt their skills on display dring half time of the end of week basketball scrimmage. Extreme Sports Here s yor chance to try yor hand of some non-traditional sports that are a little more extreme. Activities will inclde Ultimate Frisbee, extra time on or Rockwall, as well as an additional srprise field trip. Flag Football Flag Football camp will help campers develop skills and techniqes for playing the different positions in offense, defense, and special teams. 8 Ftsal NEW! Invented in a YMCA in Urgay to allow soccer players the opportnity to play indoor as well as otdoor. This 5 on 5 version of soccer ses a smaller ball and is played on a hard srface bt the remainder of the rles are the same. We will se or indoor hockey rink to teach kids the fndamentals needed to excel in this fast paced game. Hockey Camp Campers in this program will focs on the basic fndamentals of this action-packed sport. Together we will bild teamwork and learn sportsmanship in a noncompetitive environment while focsing on speed, agility and hand eye coordination. This will inclde both floor and inline hockey based on yor child s skill level. Pickleball NEW! This trending sport combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong to allow people of all ages and skill levels the ability to participate. Campers will be split by skill level to work on serving, retrning the ball and game strategy. Silly Sports This week is all abot crazy and silly sports sch as pin dodge, bcket brigade and other silly games that campers and conselors will create throghot the week. TEEN CAMP Soccer Each participant will be introdced to the bilding blocks of the game inclding dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, finishing and goal keeping. Participants will be divided in similar skill and age grops. Sports Extravaganza Game on! This camp is designed to teach general skills in a variety of sports inclding: soccer, basketball, ftsal, baseball, floor hockey and more. Swim Camp Swim Camp incldes daily dry land drills, water drills, games and relays instrcted by Westside Swim Instrctors. Campers will be divided into grops of beginners, intermediate and advanced. Volleyball Throghot the week campers will work on the fndamentals of passing, serving, hitting and game knowledge in order to prepare them for an end of week scrimmage. Campers will be divided by skill level. Week Dates Age Camp Fee Y Member 2-4 6/19-7/ CIT Session $300 $250 Conselor in Training (CIT) (Ages 13-16) The Conselor in Training program is designed to train yong men and women for potential ftre employment as a conselor at the Westside YMCA Day Camp. CITs will spend the first week bilding nity as a team, learn abot basic activities in or camp and how to lesson plan for the week. In their second week of the program CITS shadow conselors as well as go throgh a variation of staff training that will inclde basic First Aid and CPR principles, child abse prevention training, field trip safety procedres, aqatics safety and several other trainings that are reqired for all staff. The third week CITs will be partnered with a conselor to pt into practice all of the new skills they learned in their first two weeks. After completion CIT s may be invited to join or camp as a volnteer the remainder of the smmer. MYSTIC LAKE RESIDENTAL CAMP -7- Mystic Lake YMCA Camp is nestled on 600 acres with all the comforts of a safe, fn and tre camping experience. Campers spend their days learning new activities, skills and making lifelong friends, while spending their nights in cabins, sharing stories of the day and dreaming abot tomorrow.
