Summer Power Kindergarten is a full-day program where children make new friends, develop healthy habits, get plenty of physical activity and learn new things through play. Magnify Your Mind Week of June 11 June 15 Challenge yourself this week to expand your mind and explore the wonders of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Get ready to get messy as you create your own slime, make sink or float scientific predictions, construct the tallest cup tower, and build a structure out of marshmallows and spaghetti. Splash and Dash Week of June 18 June 22 Beat the summer heat with splash-tacular fun! Too Fit to Quit Week of July 9 July 13 On your mark, get set, go! It s non-stop fun as we get moving with a week full of games & activities that focus on having fun, developing sportsmanship, and learning how to stay active. Navigating Nature Week of July 16 July 20 The great outdoors beckons you during this fun-filled week complete with bugs, nature crafts, outdoor scavenger hunts, nature hikes, and more! Be prepared to be amazed by the wonderful world around us. Artrageous Week of July 23 July 27 Prepare to have fun with outrageous arts & crafts using watercolors, chalk, clay, and more! We will play galaxy tag, make moon sand, and visit local science attractions. Drama-o-Rama Week of August 13 August 17 Lights, camera, action! It s time to step into the spotlight and showcase your talents. Be a star as you discover your talents and share them with your friends. Field trips might include a theatrical performance, magicians, or a behind the scenes tour of a production company. Kids on the Move Week of August 20 August 24 It s fun to be healthy! We will keep the kids moving this week and reinforce the importance of a healthy lifestyle. We ll provide physical activity and encourage healthy eating habits through fun nutrition lessons. 6 SUMMER SPORTS Entering grades 1 6* in fall, 2018 *Disc Golf Entering grades 1 8 in fall, 2018 Kids of all skill levels and abilities can choose from a variety of sports to explore this summer in week-long YMCA Summer Sports camps. FRIDAY PLAY DAYS Friday Play Days give participants the opportunity to put their hard work and new skills into action by engaging in friendly competition and scrimmaging against other YMCA locations at the end of each week. FLOOR HOCKEY Weeks of June 4, July 9 and August 13 Kids can improve their stick handling, passing and shooting skills through drills and our hockey curriculum. TRACK AND FIELD Week of June 11 Kids learn the proper techniques of running, pacing, jumping and throwing. BASEBALL/ TBALL/ SOFTBALL Weeks of June 18 and August 6 Participants develop and improve skills: throwing, catching, pitching, hitting and running bases. FIELD TRIP: Week of June 18: Twins Game. 6 SOCCER Weeks of June 11, July 23 and August 27 Kids will work through curriculum focused on ball-control, passing, trapping, shooting and defense. Participants have the option of bringing their own shin guards and cleats. CHEER Weeks of June 18 and July 16 Kids learn the ins and outs of basic and advanced cheer moves. Finish the week participating in a choreographed routine put to music. BASKETBALL Weeks of June 25, July 16 and August 20 Players will progress through the skills of basketball: dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills through drills. FIELD TRIP: Week of July 16: Lynx Game. LACROSSE Week of June 25 Our lacrosse instruction is designed to stimulate a kid s love of the game through focus on skills, drills and rules of the game. 7 GOLF Weeks of July 2* and August 6 Kids will practice on a local golf course where young golfers will have an opportunity to improve their driving, chipping and putting. Bring your own golf clubs; but clubs are available if needed. FLAG FOOTBALL Weeks of July 9 and August 13 Kids play every position and learn the basic offense and defense skills including catching, passing and capturing the flag. TENNIS Week of July 30 Participants learn the fundamentals of tennis with trained instructors. Kids are encouraged to bring their own racquet. Tennis balls are provided. VOLLEYBALL Week of July 23 Kids learn about the sport of volleyball including rules, communication skills, serving, setting and passing. Uproar brings a multitude of character development experiences to kids through community involvement, leadership activities, team building exercises, goal setting and more. Days are filled with field trips, outings to amusement and water parks, and fun group activities that exercise the body, challenge the mind and nurture the spirit of our youth. Wee Backpackers is carried out in small groups under the watchful eye of counselors trained to meet the needs of young campers. The Wee Backpacker program maintains a low staff to child ratio. Kids think, dress, and act like superheroes! Kids bring their own superhero costume or make one at camp. Suiting up as their favorite superhero each day, they ll explore their own super powers. Activities include super games, super crafts and super fun. Where else can kids spend the day as their alter-ego superhero, meet other superheroes and save the world? NEW! MYSTERY QUEST CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 18, July 9, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Looking for a mystery to solve? There are many tales surrounding Camp Streefland. From Allie the Alligator, to the Pirates of Kingsley Lake to the Gaga Monster! Campers will set out on a daily adventure to hunt for clues, set traps and go deeper on these fun mysteries. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CAMP Weeks July 9, July 23 and August 6 Campers will learn the basics of digital photography and be able to experiment with both portrait and landscape photography. Each day will be a different theme from the viewpoint of an ant, or include a tree as a subject. Participants must bring a digital camera. No phones please. CULTURE AND DISCOVERY THEATER/DRAMA/DANCE CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Member Participants: $245/week Non-Member Program Participants: $270/week Week of July 30 Kids free their imaginations and develop improvisational skills! Campers explore the world of theater through games, acting exercises, learning about stage make-up and even performing for an audience. This camp is great for building self-esteem. A performance will be given. SPANISH CAMP Weeks of June 25, July 16, July 23 and August 6 This program is designed for campers currently learning Spanish. All instruction and programming is conducted in Spanish. Campers explorer hiking through wooded trails, studying the wonders of nature, canoeing along lakeshores, and conquering many challenges under the leadership of well-trained staff. Exciting activities include archery, swimming, nature studies, canoeing, fort building, gaga ball, camp crafts, cookouts and group games! DUCT TAPE ART CAMP Weeks of July 9, July 16, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Creativity is unlimited when the medium is duct tape! Kids learn how to craft with duct tape and make amazing things like bags, wallets, jewelry, and almost anything they can think of. Duct tape arts and crafts are one of the hottest trends. 13 DAY CAMP STREEFLAND NATURE AND SCIENCE CRITTERS AND CRAWLERS CAMP Ages 4 & 5 year olds or entering Kindergarten in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 11, July 9, August 6 and August 20 Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 18, July 16, July 30 and August 13 Campers become Eco-Explorers as they investigate the natural surroundings at camp. We will take forest treks, prairie walks and beach tours to explore our local wildlife. Activities include: bug safaris, nature hunt, create a critter from litter and more! FISH, FROGS AND FORTS CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 11, July 9, July 16, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Filled with exploration and environmental education, we ll focus on fort building and discovery of insects, fish and frogs. Campers learn basic fishing skills while practicing the catch-and-release method. Bait and fishing equipment is provided at camp but you may bring your own. WILD ABOUT NATURE CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018* Weeks of July 9, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Young nature lovers will enjoy the great outdoors as we explore the wonders of nature! Campers will hike along our many paths to discover woods, prairies and wetlands. Kids learn to identify a variety of trees, plants, and animals at camp. 13 FARM AND GARDEN CAMP Weeks of June 25, July 9, July 23 and August 6 Join us for a week of wholesome fun on the farm and in the garden! Kids working the farm will explore gardens, fields, and pastures. Young farmers experience the daily routines of feeding and caring for farm animals. Campers discover how plants, animals, soil and people work together to produce the food that we eat every day. Plus, they ll learn what it means to be a good steward in this unique farming experience. JUNIOR NATURALIST CAMP Member Participants: $245/week Non-Member Program Participants: $270/week Weeks of June 25, July 16, August 6 and August 13 Connect with nature in a personal way! Junior Naturalist campers will take field trips and learn about our precious environment from Naturalists, and they ll complete a service project too. From Geocaching in Clearly Lake Park, Prior Lake, to spending time at the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Bloomington, this is your chance to explore nature and learn how to protect our precious outdoors. 14 DAY CAMP STREEFLAND NATURE AND SCIENCE WATER EXPLORATION JUNIOR RANGER CAMP Member Participants: $245/week Non-Member Program Participants: $270/week Weeks of July 16, July 23 and July 30 The YMCA and National Park Service have partnered together to empower youth to create new outdoor opportunities to play, learn and serve. Campers will earn their Junior Ranger badge and experience firsthand the Junior Ranger motto of Explore, Learn and Protect. Campers will experience a field trip to a National Park to explore the Mississippi River and work with a Park Ranger! WEE BACKPACKERS LEARN TO SWIM CAMP 4 & 5 years old, or entering Kindergarten in fall, 2018 Member Participants: $260/week Non-Member Program Participants: $285/week Weeks of July 16, July 23, July 30 and August 6 All of the wonderful outdoor adventures in the Wee Backpacker program plus swimming lessons! Each day Wee Bees will have a 40-minute progressive swimming lesson at the Burnsville YMCA indoor pool with our certified swim instructors. Little swimmers will also have time to play in our zero depth pool. The remainder of the day will be spent enjoying traditional camp activities. A swim lesson progress card will be given at the end of the session. FULL STEAM AHEAD CAMP Weeks of July 16, August 6 and August 20 This camp is perfect for our young scholars who are passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Campers will spend the week engaged in hands on, interactive projects. We will figure out how things work and why it s important. Activities may include Legos, robotics, science experiments, plus more! There will be lots of learning, using their imaginations, and exploring the indoors and outdoors at camp! Participants will gain understanding and learn to properly use them both safely. Campers will learn to make and use their own targets, learn about different types of bows, the basics of aiming and target shooting and try our tomahawk range on Adventure Island. ADVANCED ARCHERY CAMP Weeks of July 9, July 16, July 23 and August 13 Your child will advance their archery skills and build upon skills learned in our archery and slingshot camp. Daily practice and instruction is offered at camp s three archery ranges and off site at South Forty Archers in Lakeville. Campers will gain new skills and self-confidence every day through a variety of climbing activities. This camp is designed to build self-confidence and learn valuable skills through challenging activities while enjoying an unforgettable adventure. Campers embark on full- and half-day activities such as skateboarding at the YMCA Tri-City Skate Park. Base Camp climbing adventure, and disc golfing. The remainder of the day will be spent enjoying traditional camp activities. FISHING CAMP Weeks of June 11 August 24* Camp Streefland is working with the MN DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife to utilize the MinnAqua Program s national award-winning fishing and aquatic education curriculum in our fishing camps. MinnAqua is a statewide education program designed to teach angling recreation and stewardship as well as the ecology and conservation of aquatic habitats. Kids get hooked on fishing as they learn basic fishing skills. Lakes provide the scene for fishing fun using the catch-and-release method. Campers will learn about safety when fishing, how to tie knots, fish identification, which bait to use and how our actions impact nature. Campers can bring their own pole and tackle, or equipment will be provided. 15

16 DAY CAMP STREEFLAND OUTDOOR SPORTS MOUNTAIN BIKING CAMP AT BUCK HILL Member Participants: $345/week Non-Member Program Participants: $360/week Weeks of June 11, June 18 and June 25 A step by step guide to beginning mountain bike skills to ease the experience of first-time riders. Students build confidence in tire grip, working on anticipation and focus points. Your child will learn to shift gears and become a strong rider. Campers develop lifelong biking skills and a commitment to an active lifestyles. Guest instructors and speakers from local bike shops, will help teach your child about basic bike care. SKI CAMP AT BUCK HILL Member Participants: $345 /week Non-Member Program Participants: $360 /week Weeks of June 11, June 18 and June 25 Campers learn to ski or snowboard! Our partnership with Buck Hill will allow campers the opportunity to get the feeling of skiing or riding on synthetic snow. Mondays begin with an orientation and 90-minute lessons will be provided on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The remainder of each day will be spent enjoying traditional camp activities. Equipment rental is included in the cost and covers boots, skis, binding, poles and helmet. 17 DAY CAMP STREEFLAND HORSE CAMPS For all horse programs, we recommend that participants wear heeled leather shoes or boots. Long pants and protective helmets are required of all participants. Helmets will be provided by the camp. Our horse camp is a recreational riding program and is not intended to replace formal riding lessons. Alternative programs may be planned if weather conditions such as extreme heat, rain, or wind jeopardize the safety of campers or horses. Horse camp participants will be transported by bus from Day Camp Streefland to Day Camp Kici Yapi each day. Participants will spend 3 full days of excitement and exploration on the water. The other 2 days will be spent at Camp Kici Yapi doing traditional camp activities. Sailing Instructors are US Sailing Certified, highly experienced and energetic and teach basic sailing concepts including: wind identification, upwind sailing, navigation and water safety. Participants will begin on land and then sail Lake Minnetonka. Sailors work in teams to manage onboard jobs including rigging, sail trim and steering. Participants must bring: water bottle, change of clothes, water shoes and towel. Lifejackets will be provided by camp. Transportation from Camp Kici Yapi to Lake Minnetonka will be provided on the 3 days of sailing. 24

Trained instructors will teach the basics of western horseback riding. You will work on leading, mounting, ring work, grooming, trotting and saddling. You will learn and develop the necessary camp skills needed to lead camper activities, as well as group responsibility through activity planning. You will have opportunities to shadow counselors and assist staff in camp activities. There will be plenty of time to hang out with friends new and old. TEEN SERVICE LEARNING CAMP Entering grades 7 9 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 18, July 16 and August 13 Grow your leadership and teambuilding skills, while bolstering self-confidence through giving back to the community. Earn volunteer hours and improve your skill set while actively participating in traditional camp activities like swimming, canoeing and kayaking, and high ropes course. Service projects take place at camp and in the community. You will receive a certificate with the number of service hours completed. It s a win-win for you and the community! TEEN ARCHERY CAMP Entering grades 7 9 in fall, 2018 Member Participants: $260/week Non-Member Program Participants: $285/week Weeks of July 23 and August 20 Fine tune your archery skills and learn new ones. Archery games will help you discover the science behind drawing and releasing the bow. Instructors will show you proper grip, stance and aim alignment. Equipment will be provided. Campers will go on a field trip to a local archery range. JR. COUNSELOR PROGRAM Volunteer Program Ages Do you love working with kids in a camp setting? Here s your chance to take a leadership role! Junior Counselors are assigned to a group and assist the Senior Counselors in leading and carrying out a variety of Day Camp programs. Junior Counselors help campers acquire feelings of high self-esteem, self-worth and competence in an outdoor setting. Previous experience in the LIT program or working with children is required. Tent camp for two nights with us at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. On Tuesday we leave Southdale YMCA for Devils Lake State Park. Once camp is set up, the adventures begin! Wednesday is spent at a water park in the WI Dells. We ll explore the park and enjoy group games, hike and end with a blazing campfire and a hearty meal. Join us for this thrilling outdoor adventure! Then we go underground to an exciting guided cave tour at one of the nation s most unique caves. We ll spend the next day renting bikes and exploring the historic town of Lanesboro and the trails and parks along the Root River. TROLLHAUGEN ZIP LINE & AERIAL ADVENTURE Offered July and August 7 9 (3-day session) Member Participants: $355/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $380/3-day session This adventure will take you soaring! Beautiful Interstate Park is our campsite for one night. We ll enjoy the park s rolling, wooded hills and the banks of the St. Croix River, and spend a half-day at Trollhaugen Adventures soaring through the Aerial Tour Challenge Course. Then experience a night sleeping at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. We will canoe and participate in camp activities. Truly a memorymaking getaway. NORTH SHORE KAYAK & ADVENTURE PARK Offered June and July (3-day session) Member Participants: $355/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $380/3-day session The starting point for this North Shore adventure is the spectacular harbor city of Duluth. There are so many fun things to see and do there. We ll spend two nights camping at Spirit Mountain Campground. Our first day adventures include the Spirit Mountain Adventure Park and exploring Gooseberry Falls. On Wednesday we will spend the day on a guided kayak tour to local islands.
