(Refer to Drawing Below) COVER FABRICATION (A) Do not use 60 wide material in the manufacturing of the cover. For proper alignment of the cover seams with the internal roller tube supports, covers must be made from 46 wide fabric. This applies to each of the three widths of Solair Select frames. (B) Cut lengths: Cut length to be 8. This allows for 6 of actual cover, plus for each hem pocket. For the valance, cut length is to be 0 which allows for an 8 valance plus for each hem. (C) Seam widths together using a double needle lock stitch (not chain stitch) machine, trim to size and square cover. Cut off valance. (D) The finished width of the cover should be approximately 8 less than the overall unit. Exact measurement should be determined by measuring the length of the roller tube and deducting. (E) Allow width for a Single hem on each side of the cover. (Hot knife the edges of the material before hemming.) (F) The top and bottom of the cover along with the top of the separate valance are to be finished with ¼ poly tubing in the hems. Z Y A IMPORTANT FABRICATION GUIDE To prevent bagging in finished cover, there are three critical dimensions which must be exact: FINISHED WIDTH: FINISHED LENGTH: FINISHED DIAGONALS: (C) MUST BE THE SAME MEASUREMENT AT THE FRONT BAR AS IT IS AT THE ROLLER. (A) EDGES AND EACH SEAM MUST BE THE SAME LENGTH. (Z AND Y) MUST BE THE SAME. 7

COVER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SOLAIR SELECT AWNING FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY, INSURE THAT EACH ARM IS SECURELY TIED DOWN TO SQUARE SUPPORT TUBE TO PREVENT ARM FROM SPRINGING FORWARD. Cassette Disassembly To easily disassemble the cassette and to facilitate the cover installation, first mount the unit to a surface. Adequate width of space is needed to insure the upper cassette can slide off of the lower cassette. To access the roller tube for fabric installation, first remove the upper half of the cassette. (Note: The upper half separates from the lower half by sliding apart. The lower half of the cassette remains attached to the square support tube and is not removed.) Begin by removing the upper four screws from the end bracket on the motor end of the frame. DO NOT REMOVE ANY ADDITIONAL SCREWS FROM THIS BRACKET. Make note of each screw s original location, as it must reenter its original location when cover installation is complete. (See photo at right.) This allows for release of the upper cassette housing from the end bracket. Motor End View Remove only these four screws. Next, remove the bracket from the opposite end. Do this by removing the five screws found in the end of the bracket. Again, make note of each screw s original location, as it must reenter its original location when cover installation is complete. (See Opposite End View.) Next, remove the 7 MM bolt, found on the bottom of the bracket (requires a 5mm Allen wrench). This allows for the entire bracket to separate from the cassette, the roller tube and the square support tube. (See Left End View.) Opposite End View Remove 7 MM Bolt from here. (On left end of unit.) Carefully remove the upper cassette from the lower cassette by sliding the two sections apart. Roller tube is now exposed and fabric cover can be installed. 9

COVER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SOLAIR SELECT AWNING Cover Attachment Insert one each fabric lock onto the roller tube channel with the flat end first towards the motor and the machine screw head exposed above the channel. No fabric locks are required for the front bar. The screws securing the front bar end caps to the front bar also serve as the fabric locks. Install fabric onto the unit. Insert the back hem of the fabric cover into the roller tube channel and front hem into the top front channel of the front bar. Slide the fabric simultaneously onto the roller tube and the front bar, until it covers the frame. Center the fabric onto the frame. Slide the valance into the lower front bar channel making sure it is centered with the cover. Insert the remaining fabric lock (pointed end first) into the roller tube channel. Tighten the fabric lock screw. Cassette Reassembly On the motor end, align the end bracket to the cassette and reinstall the four screws removed earlier. Be certain screws are entering their original locations in the cassette housing. On the opposite end, reinstall the end bracket to the square support tube. (To facilitate repositioning the roller tube into the end bracket, consider the use of a looped cord, placed around the roller tube end and lift the tube into place as the end bracket is reattached.) Next, reattach the 7 MM bolt back in place on the bottom of the square support tube. Realign the cassette to the end bracket and reinstall the five screws removed earlier. Again, be certain the screws are entering their original locations in the cassette housing. Using the remote transmitter, roll the fabric onto the tube by pressing the up direction on the transmitter. (See diagram below.) Make sure fabric is rolling over the top of the roller tube. Remove ties from the arms and square support tube. Arms should be held securely by the fabric cover. Set motor limits according to the Somfy directions. (See page 6.) 0

AWNING SIZE CONFIGURATIONS Recommended Arm, Mounting Bracket Arrangement A = minimum to 0 maximum approximate rule of thumb per foot of overall awning width up to 0. Each end wall bracket must be placed within of an arm, preferably between the cassette support and the arm. This rule also applies to all other arms. If this rule cannot be adhered to an additional wall bracket must be used. All brackets must be mounted into studs or structural members. and

INSTALLATION ATTENTION!! Please be sure all nuts, bolts and screws are thoroughly tightened prior to installation, as they may have loosened during transportation. IMPORTANT!! Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. Check your shipment to confirm that all components have been received. Inspect to insure that the location at which the retractable awning is to be installed is free from any interference, such as, vents, lights, downspouts, trim, etc. There must be a minimum of 9 ½ of vertical clear space on the surface on which you plan to mount the awning. Determine the ground clearance needed under the front bar. On a private residence, this should be at least 7 feet. On a commercial building, it should be a minimum of 8 feet. A 3/ pitch (awning angle) is suggested (i.e., 3 of drop for every ( Ft) of projection) for this 0 projection, the awning s installation height upon the wall will be a minimum of 9 ½ from ground level (7 Ft ). For a commercial installation, this height will be a minimum of 0 ½ from ground level. Wind has the greatest impact on the installation of the awning. Even moderate winds can put great stress on the brackets and their installation. Therefore, the proper installation of the wall brackets is the most important aspect of the awning mounting. All wall brackets must be in line and level in order for the unit to fit freely in the brackets. In order to ensure brackets are level on wall or siding, shims may be required. First, locate where brackets are to be mounted to wall. This is done by placing the awning next to the designated wall. The brackets will have to be spaced out properly as determined by the wall studs. Wall brackets should be firmly attached to all studs. Wall brackets are not to be mounted where the arms of the awning attach to the square support tube. The wall bracket should be located between the cassette bracket and the arm. Install the outermost bracket (on each end) inside or outside of the outer arm attachment, but no farther than inches away from the arm attachment. On an and 5 8 wide awning, install the third and fourth bracket, distributed as equally as possible between the other two brackets. See arrangement diagram of Arm and Bracket on page 9. On the 9 5 Solair Select, six wall brackets are supplied. As described for the 5 8 model, mount one bracket on each end, between the cassette bracket and the arm. The remaining four brackets should be mounted equally between the two outer brackets. See arrangement diagram of Arm and Bracket on page 9. RECOMMENDED WALL MEASUREMENTS FRONT BAR GROUND LEVEL FOR RESIDENTIAL INSTALLATION The front bar height for a private residence should be 7 0 from ground level. The height for a commercial building is 8 0. With a standard awning pitch of 8, the placement of the awning brackets will be determined by allowing 3 wall height for each arm foot. This location will be the center of the roller tube. 40º pitch is possible.

FASTENING TO SURFACES BRICK OR BLOCK (a) Make sure that the face is structured and not just an unsupported facade. (b) Make sure the bricks are full brick and run from the ground through the second floor, for sufficient weight strength. The brackets should be bolted into the wood beams or studs for security. For mounting into block use toggle style fasteners. Longer bolts are needed. (c) Make sure the wall is flat if not, the brackets will not align properly. If not flat, mount a pressure treated x 8 wood board to the wall and fasten through the beam. SIDING Two common methods are used when fastening into siding: OPTION : Using a pressure treated wood board The board can then be stained, painted or clad with siding to match the house (a) (b) Mount a x 8 board to the house and fasten the brackets through the board into the header and studs. Longer bolts are needed. Bolt through board and into studs. OPTION : Using a spacer between the bracket and wood (a) Find the studs or header on which the awning can be mounted. (b) Drill a hole / deep down to the studs. Use a / pipe 3/4 long as a spacer between the bracket and the wood stud. The spacer should be cut to extend /4 beyond the surface of the siding. Always caulk around the holes. (c) Always predrill the studs to avoid splitting them when tightening the bolts. Longer bolts are needed in this case. 3

FASTENING TO SURFACES WOOD FRAME HOUSE (a) Doors and windows can be used to find the studs and headers. Use a stud finder and measuring tape to locate the best spot for the brackets. Whatever studs you can find on the inside can usually be utilized on the outside. Make sure the bolts are long enough to anchor 3 into solid wood studs. (b) Always predrill the holes to avoid splitting the studs. (c) Do not overtighten the bolts you will strip the thread. CEILING MOUNT: (a) Make sure the soffit or joists are strong enough to support the extended awning. (b) Make sure you have enough clearance to mount the awning. The minimum height of a retracted awning is without eye for pitch adjustment. Ceiling brackets are an additional cost. ROOF MOUNT: Roof mount installation is strongly cautioned. Insure that the unit s installation location, relative to the roof s edge, allows for sufficient access to reach, and to operate any gears which may be a part of the awning (i.e. manual override gear, awning gear, arm pitch adjustment gear). (a) This mounting type is recommended when there are insufficient head clearance or obstructions in the way. The brackets should be mounted as close as possible to the edge yet far enough in to get a solid mount. Pitch adjustment may be restricted if unit is too close to the roof line. (b) The fastening of this bracket is similar to a wood surface mount. Make sure to locate the roof rafters. Make sure the lag bolts penetrate at least 3 into the rafters. (c) Predrill all holes with a small drill bit. Caulk into the holes, under and around the roof bracket to form a tight seal. (d) This type of installation is recommended to be used on asphalt shingles and may not be appropriate on slate or clay roofs. 4

SOLAIR SELECT PITCH ADJUSTMENT The Solair Select includes a variable pitch adjustment. Pitch can easily be modified by the end user. Maximum pitch is approximately 40º. To utilize this feature, do the following:. Insert winding eye into pitch adjustment gear housing. Lock eye into place by tightening the set screw located on the side of the gear housing.. With hand crank, turn winding eye in the counterclockwise direction to lower the arm and clockwise to raise the arm. 3. Use builtin level on the front bar to attain level results. Caution: Make Sure The Awning Is Level Prior To Being Retracted! Lock winding eye in place with set screw Insert winding eye completely into gear housing Solair Select Lateral Arm Retractable Awning 5
