1 WELCOME LEAFLET - CAMPING Guide for a Merkenveldfriendly stay (The Warden and Staff Team of Merkenveld thanks you in advance for complying with these rules and instructions)
2 CHECK LIST OBLIGATORY TO POSSESS DURING YOUR CAMP : fire fighting equipment : at least a verified powder extinguisher (ABC) of 6 kg or foam extuinguisher (AB) of 6 liter First Aid kit Gas cooking fires (whenever applicable) that meet the applying regulations, and those of which all components are in optimal condition, to be installed professionally and leak-proof. accurate list of participants (also a copy for Merkenveld)
3 MAIN HOUSE RULES GENERAL Inform all leaders about the contents of this leaflet, and sensibilize your members Keep it quiet and clean, safe and environmental-friendly Do not bother our neighbours, remain quiet and polite, do not ring any doorbells of the neighbouring houses NOISE Absolute silence as from 10pm ; at the campfire circle from 11pm No sound systems, amplifiers, megaphones, bangers or any other kind of firework. Inform the Warden or staff about nocturnal activities. Have respect for nocturnal rest of the animals, the neighbours, and other residing groups MERKENVELD IS CAR FREE Parking is only allowed on the parking lot along the Merkemveldweg There is a parking restriction in Merkemveldweg, passage must be clear for emergency services, neighbours and other traffic LOADING AND UNLOADING You can drive as far as the loading/unloading zone maximum twice per camping period, once upon arrival to unload, and once upon departure to load. Maximum speed on the entrance road up to the loading/unloading zone : 5km/h Merkenveld provides push carts Loading and unloading between 10pm and 8am is forbidden FIRE SAFETY Obligatory possession of fire fighting equipment : at least a verified powder extinguisher (ABC) of 6 kg or foam extinguisher (AB) of 6 liter. (powder extinguisher can be rented at the daily rate of 1,00 euro + a guarantee cash payment of euro) In case of a tent fire, prevent the fire as much as possible to pass over to other tents, remain a 4 meter distance between (blocks of) tents Never leave a wood or gas fire unattended Setting a fire or smoking in the woods is strictly prohibited Any occurring costs because of a fire intervention will be charged to the provoking group CAMPFIRE AND WOOD FIRE Only allowed after consent ; Merkenveld can issue a fire ban at al times Campfire only at the campfire circle Cooking and wood fires only in aerial barrels which are closed on the bottom and at the sides (not in nor on the ground), flames can never exceed 50cm above the upper edge. Merkenveld provides free altar fires Only use dead wood and untreated pure wood from a shop, certainly do not burn rubbish Keep your wood pile at minimum 5 meter distance from the fire Extinguish the fire completely with water from the pond before leaving Ashes from altar fires can be left behind at the campfire circle
4 GAS COOKING FIRE Gas cooking fires must meet the applying regulations, in optimal condition, and must be installed professionally and leak-proof. Use them only in open air, open tent or shelter Gas-bottles must be protected from sun, heat, fire, do install them vertically and bumpfree Turn off the gas tap of the gas bottle whenever unused WOODS AND NATURE Do not damage either trees or plants, no saws or axes are allowed in the woods. Do not dig holes nor ditches. Do not throw anything in either the brook, the pond or the Kerkebeek Keep your play in the woods ecologically-sound: no excessive noise, clean up your materials afterwards. WATER AND ENERGY Do not waste water nor energy. There is no electricity available on the camp grounds, it is not allowed to bring along generators Merkenveld provides a fridge and freezer. We foresee is a room where your own fridges can be installed. At reception, there is the possibility of charging electronic devices s.a. cell phones. WASTE Avoid waste wherever possible, buy fresh vegetables and food unwrapped, in bulk or in returnable packaging. All waste must be sorted. Correctly sorted waste (which is not residual waste, nor glass, nor big pieces of trash) can be brought in free of charge An empty bag for residual of waste costs 0,50 euro, full bags which are being returned will be charged at 2,00 euro per bag Bring your empty glass to the bottle bank in street Pierlapont, and take all big pieces of trash home with you Ask the Warden or staff to open the recycling area, and bring all waste over there.
5 SORTING OF WASTE PMD + Plastic bottles + Metal cans (drink cans and vegetable tin) + Drinkcartons (tetra) of milk, fruit juice, etc. + metal lids of jars, plastic bottle. tops, sort in blue plastic PMD- bag - yoghurt pots - plastic and aluminum foil - plastic cups and bags - butter containers - polystyrene foam - paint pots PAPER AND CARDBOARD sort in cardboard box + newspapers and magazines - wall paper + writing paper - paper napkins and tissues + paper labels of bottles and tins - kitchen towels + paper and cardbord packaging - waxed bread bags FOOD-REMAINS (cooked) sort in round brown or white bucket + rawe vegetable and fruit remains - mouldy and rotten food + potatoe peels - packing material + remains of prepared meals - egg shells + bread and pastries - coffee grounds and filter - ashes - paper kitchen towels! GLASS to be taken to the glass-container in street Pierlapont + empty and clean bottles and jars - deposit bottles + broken glasses - screw tops - lamps - mirrors -flatt glass - porcelain and pottery REMAINS OF WASTE sort in transparent bags + yoghurt pots - waste that can be sorted with above + aluminium and plastic foil mentioned waste + plastic cups and bags - local Hazardous Waste + butter containers - big pieces of waste + waxed bread bags and chips bags KGA (Local Hazardous Waste) to be brought to reception + used batteries - waste that can be sorted with above + remains of paint and varnish mentioned waste + adhesives + used oil of fries + aerosol of insecticide! BIG PIECES OF WASTE take home, will NOT be accepted here! + tents - waste that can be sorted with above + canvas mentioned waste + stage setting + furniture + clothing
