2 THIS IS...OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH YOUTH PROMISE Camp Scholarship Information Everyone is welcome! The Y welcomes all who wish to participate and believes that no one should be denied access to the Y based on their inability to pay. Through our Partnership With Youth Scholarship Program, the Sheridan County YMCA provides assistance to youth, adults and families based on individual needs and circumstances. Pick up a camp scholarship form at the Y s front desk or print one from our website. Fill out the application and membership forms accurately and completely. The Y will contact you once your form has been submitted and reviewed. All camp scholarships will be awarded using these forms. If you have received a membership or program scholarship you may register your camper during our camp sign up day on April 6 from 8:00-10:00 am. A deposit of $20 for each session of camp is required at the time of registration. This deposit is non-refundable/non-transferable. Any questions stop by the Y s Front Desk. Be sure and check out the enclosed Resident Camp information.

Fun is a top priority. It ranks right up there with teaching key values of: CARING * HONESTY *RESPECT * RESPONSIBILITY The Thunderbird experience begins as your child enjoys discovering the wonders of the outdoors. Try a new challenge, take on a leadership role, improve self-confidence and learn how to cultivate a positive attitude. Achievement, relationships, belonging. These are just a few of the things that make Camp Thunderbird not only a fun week, but also a place for youth to grow. Sheridan County YMCA Camp Thunderbird is a place where you can be yourself, make new friends, learn new things, challenge yourself all while having a GREAT time. Fee: $120 member / $160 non-member Discover Outdoor Adventure * Day Camp Ages: * July * 8:00 am-4:00 pm Spend your days building confidence, strength and creativity in fun, challenging adventures. Each day will provide a new, exciting challenge. All activities are suitable for campers with little or no previous outdoor experience, as well as those who have extensive outdoor experience. This camp will include activities such as fishing, geocaching and swimming. Enrollment limited to 15 campers. Fee: $120 member / $160 non-member Off to Camp Stayover * Resident Camp Ages 8-11 * July 1-2 Come check out the YMCA s Resident Camp. Spend two exciting full days and one night with all your friends. This is the perfect opportunity for you to see what great things happen at our resident camp. We will leave the YMCA at 8:00 am and return the following day at 5:00 pm. Join us for a great stayover adventure! Space is limited so don t wait too long to register. Fee: $90
4 Y Track and Field Camp * Sport Camp Ages: 5-12 * June Ages 5-7: 9:30 am-10:30 am Ages 8-9 / Ages 10-12: 8:00 am-9:30 am This camp is designed to help direct youth with a serious desire to enjoy a life-long activity. Junior High Coach Liz Moore and her staff will be leading this camp. Come learn running techniques, strategies and events that occur at track and field competitions. AND.have a great time doing it! Campers will receive a t-shirt. Fee: $40 member / $60 non-member Challenger Soccer Camp Ages: 3-14 * August 5-9 We have brought in a top British team for this camp. These players are knowledgeable and will teach the children everything they need to know about soccer and assist in expanding their playing skills and abilities. Session times and fee information available on the website for Challenger Sports. 5 Frank McCarthy Basketball Camp * Sport Camp Ages: 6-13 * July 8-11 * 8:00-11:00 am The Y has teamed with Coach McCarthy in providing parents the opportunity to have their children encouraged, engaged and taught the finer techniques of basketball. Kids will appreciate playing with their friends in a setting that will continue to inspire them in the sport of basketball. Registration for this camp can be done at the Y or you may pick up a registration form and mail it in. Forms available at the Y. Fee: $100 Y Youth Soccer Camp * Sport Camp Ages: 5-13 * June * 8:30-10:30 Campers will learn some of the fundamental skills needed when playing soccer, along with getting lots of touches on the soccer ball. We look forward to having your player participate this summer! Campers will receive a t-shirt. Camp limited to 24 participants in each age division: 5-6, 7-8 and Fee: $40 member / $60 non-member
6 Counting on God Camp Ages: 4-11 * June * 9:00 am-11:45 am arts & crafts * Bible stories * singing * puppets * games * picnic All children are welcome at Counting on God Camp. If you like to have fun, meet new friends and hear stories about Jesus, then this camp is PERFECT for you! You can pick up your registration form at the Y or call Gwen at if you d like more information. Counting on God Camp is held on the Y soccer field. FREE to EVERYONE! Leader-in-Training Ages: Leadership skills are a life-long quality. This program incorporates activities that promote leadership development, outdoor adventure, service to community, teamwork, nature appreciation, and personal growth. LIT s help with supervision of campers, lead small group activities and learn how to be part of a staff team. Each day provides new opportunities and new challenges. The course is staffed by excellent counselors who ensure that each participant has a first-rate experience. This year older LIT s will have an opportunity to commit to a week of being support staff at our resident camp, YMCA of the Bighorns Camp Roberts. We will make these placements based on their past performance and interest. The LIT program requires a personal commitment to a staff training session and active involvement in their scheduled week(s). You can apply by picking up an application at the Front Desk. A camp director will then be in touch with you. Apply by April 23. You don t have to be great to start...but you have to start to be great!
7 Science Explorers * Science Camp Ages: 6-8 * June * 9:00 am-12:00 pm Come join us for a week of science exploration! Geological digs, bug hunts, ecological investigations and building machines-a taste of some of the many facets of the scientific world. This introduction to science will be a summer memory for the books! Enrollment limited to 15 campers. Instructor is Jules Craft. Fee: $85 member / $120 non-member Science Smart * Science Camp Ages: 6-8 * July * 8:00 am-1:00 pm Campers will be making and using various tools to study the earth. Each day will bring a new adventure and emphasis. Expect the unexpected when our day opens up to possibilities of exploring new and unplanned things. This camp will be full of cool projects for exploring earth-land, water, air and sun. Enrollment limited to 15 campers. Instructor is Art Orr. Fee: $85 member / $120 non-member Sticks and Stones and Dinosaur Bones * Science Camp Ages: 9-11 * June * 8:00 am 1:00 pm Join us for adventure-filled days in this field geology class searching for petrified wood, leaf and fern impression fossils, studying stream bed geology (weathering and erosion), mapping unknown areas and creating a topo map. Let s be spies in nature and find and see things that are not obvious. Expect the unexpected! Materials will be provided. Enrollment limited to 15 campers. Instructor is Art Orr. Fee: $85 member / $120 non-members Wyoming Wildlife * Science Camp Ages: 9-11 * July * 8:00 am 1:00 pm Wildlife Biologist Tim Thomas will teach campers some of the traits of Wyoming wildlife. Campers will learn about a variety of Wyoming's wildlife species and about the habitats that support them. The Sheridan area supports a wide variety of wild birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish. Campers will get the opportunity each day to learn about a different group of wildlife and visit habitats in the area that support them. Limited to 15 campers. Fee: $85 member / $120 non-member
8 Youth Theater Camp I * Art Camp Ages: 7-11 * June * 9:00 am-3:00 pm This camp is for students that are new to theater. The focus will be to learn about stage presence, vocal projection, character development, stage blocking and audition skills. Through theater games and skits, campers will gain valuable artistic experience while making many new connections. This camp will end with a variety show at the Y on Friday at 2:00 pm. Enrollment limited to 25 campers. Fee: $120 member / $160 non-member Youth Theater Camp II * Art Camp Ages: 9-14 * July * 9:00 am- 4:00 pm This camp is for students who have been in Theater Camp 1 or in a Tandem Productions play. In five short days, campers will produce a play from start to finish, including casting, staging, costuming, and performing. The final performance will be held at 2:00 pm on July 26 at the WYO Theater. Enrollment is limited to 30 campers. This year s play: Lion King Kids. Fee: $120 member / $160 non-member Exploring Theater * Art Camp Ages: 9-14 * July * 9:00 am-4:00 pm Have you ever wanted to be featured as a specific character or sing a certain solo? Exploring Theater offers campers the opportunity to be involved in the creative processes of selecting, developing, and performing their own scene-based and songbased materials. Every camper will be involved in an end-of-camp performance at the Mars Theater (inside the WYO Theater) at 2:00 on Friday, July 19. Enrollment limited to 20 campers. Fee: $120 member / $160 non-member Go Art * Art Camp June 3-7 * Ages 6-9 /9:00am-12:00pm * Ages 10-13/1:00-4:00 pm Come experience a week of visual art adventure with Arin Waddell. Go Art will be a fabulous opportunity to express yourself via a variety of materials and art techniques. Artists will create and study works inspired by our artistic Sheridan community. This high energy class will bring fun and growth for everyone. All pick-up and drop-off will take place at SAGE Gallery (21 W Brundage St, Sheridan.) Fee: $120 member / $160 non-member
9 Exploring Stories * Art Camp Ages: 6-9 * July 8-11 * 9:00 am-12:00 pm This camp is for young literacy enthusiasts. Campers will have the opportunity to explore stories from around the world while examining their purpose and structure. There will also be an emphasis on dialogic storytelling and development. This camp is accessible to students of all reading abilities. Enrollment limited to 15 storytellers. Fee: $50 member / $80 non-member Scriveners * Art Camp Ages: * July 8-11 * 1:00-4:00 pm This camp is for reading and writing enthusiasts who are wanting to learn more about storytelling and literary art. We ll examine a variety of narrative techniques and genres while learning about developing our own long-form creative works. Fiction, narrative nonfiction, poetry, plot development, and other topics will all be brought to life in this week long expedition into the world of literary creation. Enrollment limited to 15 campers. Fee: $50 member / $80 non-member Sheridan County Cadets Drumline* Art Camp Ages: * July 29-Aug 2 * 1:00-4:00 pm March to the beat of your own drum with the Sheridan County Cadets, a youth percussion ensemble that emphasizes rhythmic literacy and performance skills. Campers will learn about early percussion technique, music fundamentals, and various percussion cadences in this high energy camp. An end-of-camp performance is to be determined. Limited to 15 drummers. Fee: $50 member / $80 non-member
10 Boys Choir * Art Camp Ages: 8-14 * July 29 Aug. 2 * 9:00 am-12:00 pm Come join the joyful noise with the Sheridan County Boys Choir. This summer session is designed to give all singers a chance to experience making music with our community boys ensemble. It will also serve as a jump-start for the fall season of the Sheridan County Boys Choir. Singers will learn about vocal skills and technique while exploring children s choral repertoire. Limited to 20 singers. Instructors: Tyler Rogers and Stephanie Zukowski Fee: $50 member / $80 non-member Girl s Choir * Art Camp Ages: 8-14 * August 5-9 * 9:00 am-12:00 pm Come join the joyful noise with the Sheridan County Girls Choir. Your child is enthusiastically invited to join us for a week of friendships, laughter, and of course, ADVENTURE! We will rendezvous each morning, organize our troops and then enjoy three hours of fun and challenges. Daily activities may include arts and crafts, swimming, games and much more. 13 Youth Resident Camp Ages 9-11 June * July * August 4-9 Discover the magic of camp and enjoy fun activities in the great outdoors. Activities provide new friendships, adventure and personal growth creating days as unique as each of our campers. All youth camps offered at Y Resident camp are co-ed. Campers will be assigned to gender specific cabins with counselors in each cabin. Campers gain independence as they spend 6 days and 5 nights away from home in an atmosphere committed to building healthy youth. Campers learn responsibility as they take care of themselves and their belongings (with proper guidance), and gain respect for others as they share a living space with fellow campers. Campers learn to live the core values of the YMCA CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY in terms of themselves, others and the environment. The value of Y Camp extends well beyond the camp session. Fee: $300 Up-A-Notch Teen Camp Ages June * July * August 4-9 Up-A-Notch Teen Camp is the ultimate summer camp experience for teens. This is the camp our youth campers look forward to as they near the teenage years. Many of our activities remain traditional but with a higher level of adventure and skill. Up-A-Notch camp weeks includes resident campers ages 9-11 and throughout the day there will be a blend of all camp activities, shared meals, shared bunkhouses and shared counselors. There are specific activities for the older campers signed up for Up A Notch Camp as well as an opportunity to spend a night under the stars in the great outdoors. Our focus is still the same: the values and lessons taught at camp help each child to grow in Spirit, Mind and Body, and contribute to the building of memories that last a lifetime. Fee: $300
14 Camp Frontier Ages * July 28-Aug. 2 Travel back to the 1800 s. Frontier Camp is a week long experience for those who would like to experience the life of a mountain man by traveling back to the 1800 s. Campers will explore the contributions mountain men like Jim Bridger or Daniel Boone made to the growth of our country. Campers will pitch in and enjoy activities such as stories around the campfire, dutch oven cooking, blacksmithing, gold panning and much more. Great adventure, great fun, great learning. Fee: $300 Off to Camp Stayover Ages 8-11 * July 1-2 Come check out the YMCA s Resident Camp. Spend two exciting full days and one night with all your friends. 15 Learn to Shoot / Hunter Safety Course Ages * July 7-11 A riflery/archery camp teaches kids calm deliberation and concentration. Because of the nature of riflery/archery, attention to detail is also cultivated in each camper. Y Camp has devised ways to make the activity more enjoyable through end of camp competitions or getting to take home their first bullseye. Before shooting campers are given courses on firearm safety, how not to handle a gun and the basics of marksmanship. Because safety is the primary concern, riflery camps are offered to older campers ages Hunter Safety class will be taught by certified Game and Fish instructors. Shooting camp is designed to ensure safety and strict rules are enforced. Fee: $300 Art Nomads Ages: 9-15 * July 7-11 What is Art? Where is Art? Where is it not? Uncover and explore the life of art. Several local artists will provide insight and support to discover several genres of art. View the world through their eyes, tools, habitat, and story! Know more, see more, feel more as everyday life takes on a new hue! Fee: $300 **********************************************************************************??? Volunteers??? We ll have lots of opportunities for you to join us at YMCA of the Bighorns Camp Roberts in a volunteer capacity. Opening up camp this spring mowing lawns assisting in the kitchen painting / staining planting flowers and much, much more! Our first scheduled Volunteer Day will be Saturday, May 19. Watch for additional information and how to sign up for this fun-filled, productive day!
16 Basic Backpacking Ages: * July 7-11 This camp is aimed at the younger, perhaps less experienced hiker. If you want to share in the adventure of backpacking, we encourage you to sign up for this trip and challenge yourself to a fun and rewarding experience. We will learn the basics of backpacking while based at YMCA of the Bighorns Camp Roberts and work our way up to an amazing 3-day/2 night backpacking trip. Enjoy s mores, campfires and majestic views on this fun-filled introduction to backpacking. This is an introductory backpacking expedition, and all you will need is an adventurous spirit! No previous experience is necessary. The YMCA would like to thank The Wyoming Wilderness Association for leading this trip into the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Fee: $300 Wilderness Backpacking Ages: * July 28-Aug. 2 If you are a true outdoor adventure seeking enthusiast you will want to join us while we explore the wonderland with high mountain meadows, huge clear lakes and stunning mountain peaks. While previous backpacking experience is encouraged it is not required. Join us if you have an understanding of your physical ability to carry a backpack, camp in a tent under the stars and share in a group setting. As a group you will actively participate in all that is necessary to keep a clean, environmentally healthy campsite. The YMCA would like to thank The Wyoming Wilderness Association for leading this trip into the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Fee: $300 Trout Masters Ages: 9-15 * July 28-Aug. 2 Cast a fly. Drown a worm. Get your feet wet. The Bighorn Mountains and surrounding area are a fisherman s paradise and we are excited to share some of its great fishing with our campers. This camp is designed for all skill levels with a variety of activities. Come learn basic spin fishing and fly fishing, understand the aquatic life of a fish, what they eat during the year, habitat, basic lure-making and basic fly-tying. We ll be fishing at many great locations ranging from Camp Roberts stocked trout pond to many trout packed fresh water streams and lakes. Fee: $300
17 THIS IS... OUR FOCUS At Camp Roberts we focus on the A B C s of Y Camp. ACCOMPLISHMENT - Campers gain a sense of accomplishment by trying activities and developing new skills. For many campers, being away from home for a week is an important accomplishment itself. BELONGING - Making new friends and being a good friend helps campers learn about a sense of belonging. Living in a cabin with other youth and counselors gives each camper a lesson in friendship building and teamwork. CHARACTER - We discuss character values in many ways during the week. Our core values are Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility. THIS IS...OUR ROLE MODELING YMCA Camp staff are committed and dedicated to providing a positive experience for each camper. Our summer staff are selected to ensure that we have a diverse group of counselors whom care about your camper. Staff training includes First Aid, CPR, safety, conflict resolution, child development, camp policies and procedures and instilling the values of Camp Roberts. Our energetic, enthusiastic staff follow an 8 to 1 ratio to make sure everyone has the best camp experience possible. THIS IS. 18 WELCOME TO Y CAMP! Whether it s through singing, hiking, swimming, theater or water fun our Y Camps help your child build a healthy spirit, mind and body while having FUN! Our Camp Program Directors bring experience, enthusiasm and training to each Y Camp. Jacey Repsis - Jacey has passed through the years, first as a camper, and then through the ranks of camp staff starting as a volunteer, LIT, progressing to a full counselor, co-director and recently Program Director in charge of Day Camp and Youth Sports. Jacey is gifted with the ability to make young people feel capable, able and good about themselves. She is tireless in her desire to provide the best possible experience. Tyler Rogers Tyler has a background in elementary education and is proudly a life-long musician. He is passionate about providing youth with opportunities to engage in the arts in meaningful, student-centric ways. Jason Lanka - Born and raised in the Sheridan area and a graduate of Tongue River High School, Jason has spent the last twelve years as a college level educator teaching sculpture. Jason loves to backpack, camp, fish, hunt and explore the Mountain West. He is very excited to share his love of education and the outdoors with our future campers. 20 Use this handy camp list to mark and track what camps you have signed your child up for. For your convenience you may want to bring it on the day of registration. Please read through the following: It has been our experience that because of late cancellations many youth have missed opportunities to experience Y Camp. For this reason, we require a deposit of $20 for each session to be paid at the time of registration. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE and NONTRANSFERABLE. Remaining balance to be paid no later than 2 weeks prior to camp. Take a minute and read all about registration procedures. Member registration begins Saturday, April 6 from 8:00-10:00 am in Gym 2. Member online registration begins at 8:00 am on Monday, April 8 Community member registration begins Monday, April 22. Individual registration tables for each specific camp will be placed throughout the gym. Proceed to which camp you are registering in. If you are concerned about camps filling and are interested in registering for multiple camps, we suggest you bring additional adults to assist you in standing in the camp lines. An individual can only register youth from ONE family at a time. We ask you to return to the end of the line to register another family. Initial registration for Thunderbird and Adventure Club is limited to 2 weeks per camper. Additional registration will be available on June 3rd. Please be aware of ages for each camp. Our computer system will not allow us to register a camper that does not meet the age requirement. Many of our camps have limited enrollment. Please place your camper s name on our wait list.
