The intent of the camp is to provide a residential family camp program in an environment specifically designed to accommodate almost any special need or disability.

Through therapeutic recreation and opportunities for learning new skills, our youth will learn new abilities and develop their confidence.

1 OSD/OMK Family Camp in Alabama Camp We Can! at Camp ASCCA - Special needs family camp June 30-July 5, 2013 Ages: Adults with Youth 6-18 Number of Campers: 20 Featured Activities: Zipline, Horseback, Pool, Tubing, Demo farm, Archery, Sports and games, Splash pad, Zip tower Camp "We Can!" Is a family camp of Alabama Operation: Military Kids and is specifically designed to provide service to military families who have a child or children with special needs. The intent of the camp is to provide a residential family camp program in an environment specifically designed to accommodate almost any special need or disability. Our host site - Alabama's Special Camp for Children and Adults (A.S.C.C.A.) - has the accommodations for special needs youth to experience zip lining, tubing, archery, horseback riding, swimming, splash pad and so many more activities. Through therapeutic recreation and opportunities for learning new skills, our youth will learn new abilities and develop their confidence. Typically youth with special needs are not given the opportunity to attend overnight summer camps. Camp We Can! allows youth to have a traditional summer camp experience in an accredited camp site that meets up to 300 standards for health, safety, and program quality. This year our theme will be America the Beautiful, complete with a fireworks show on July 4th! Eligible and interested? Pack your patriotic colors and bring your family to Camp We Can! Campers will network with other military youth that are going through some of the same issues and be able to learn how other youth deal with living in a military family. Activities and choices include fishing, What s bugging you?, Balloon Tower, GIS Mapping, Hot Hula, Arts & Crafts, Hiking, Fishing, Photography and games. 3 OSD/OMK Family Camp in Kansas Purple on the Prairie: Military Family Camp August 16-18, 2013 Ages: Parents With Youth (K-12) Number of Campers: 40 Youth; 40 Adults Featured Activities: In addition to Swimming, Horseback riding and Canoeing, families will strengthen their Communication and Resilience skills through Arts, Physical activity and Nature projects all set in the natural beauty of the prairie The theme of the "Purple of the Prairie" camp is the Purple Prairie Clover which is a hardy, native wild flower that thrives on the prairie in times of drought, heat due to its deep tap-root. The flower is representative of the deep roots that stabilize military families during times of transition and challenge. This three-day camp provides families with a relaxing setting, well-trained staff and engaging activities (e.g, yoga, arts, natural science projects, games) that give family members time to have fun, get to know each other better and strengthen their family "tap-root". Throughout the camp, Kansas State University camp counselors will facilitate youth and parent activities which culminate in the camp 'showcase' on Sunday afternoon where families demonstrate what they discovered about their family members and unit. 5 OSD/OMK Family Camp in Nevada R&R Military Family Camp July 30 - August 2, 2013 Number of Campers: 60 Youth; 40 Adults Featured Activities: Horseback riding, Shooting, Zip line / Rock wall, GPS, Amazing race Nevada's OMK Reenergizing, Reestablishing, Recharging, and Reconnecting the Family camp brings together military families from all branches of service, which have recently returned from deployment. This camp will provide families the opportunity to reconnect and express their feelings, anxieties and have positive dialog about the changes that have occurred in their life as a result of deployment. This will be combined with an adventure-based (shooting sports, rockwall climbing, repelling, GPS course, amazing race, etc.) camping experience that will allow families to problem solve, work as a family, make decisions individually and as a family, and demonstrate their leadership abilities. Family members, especially teens, will gain new friends who share their same circumstance allowing for a greater ability to cope and deal with reintegration issues as a result of deployment. The rustic nature of the facility eliminates modern distractions, leaving more time for evening campfires, s mores and meals you don t have to prepare all while you relax and experience quality family time at beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee! Explore principles of flight as we construct unique paper planes, explore flight with gliders, and create and launch bottle rockets. There will also be plenty of time for swimming, canoeing, hiking, group games, birdwatching, digital photography, archery, karaoke, cempfires, and maybe even an evening coffeehouse! All ages will contribute to the camp culture during the evening campfire by participating in skits, stories, songs, or individual/small group expressions. They will have the opportunity to play together in a beautiful outdoor setting, utilizing a number of resources available at camp. Campers will work on the ground with horses (Equine Assisted Learning), where certified instructors will lead a variety of activities which focus on team work, decision making, problem solving, and communication skills. Through interactive, hands on sessions, youth and adults will learn to identify and celebrate individual and family strengths. Activities at camp include canoeing, geocaching, zip line, climbing wall, volleyball, horseshoes, evening camp fires, nature trails, fishing, arts and crafts. This is a family camp experience on the campus of the University of Rhode Island. Military service members and their families stay together on campus and enjoy activities that help strengthen the family. Families will enjoy a variety of activities that help them work together, have fun, and meet other families like them. Swimming, skating and rocketry are just a few of our favorite activities. Join Wyoming OMK at Eatons Ranch on the eastern slopes of the Big Horn Mountains in Wolf, Wyoming July 18-21, Come experience the Cowboy State with horseback riding, hiking and nature at a dude ranch in a beautiful mountain setting. This FREE camp is open to military families of all branches. This camp is open to school age children (5 and up) and adults. Programming will have a youth track (school age), adult track, and family track. Camp participants will participate in horseback riding, hiking, nature activities, and open swimming time. One night of the camp will include a live country music band that families can enjoy.
