1 YMCA CAMP SHADY BROOK YEAR-ROUND CAMP & RETREAT CENTER NEW! Stand-up paddleboarding! 2018 SUMMER CAMP THE SUMMER TO DISCOVER! campshadybrook.org
2 WHY CAMP SHADY BROOK? Since 1948, YMCA Camp Shady Brook has hosted thousands of campers in our beautiful Rocky Mountain setting. We pride ourselves on offering one of the best traditional, values-based camp experiences in the country. Parents and campers alike treasure the camp experience that promotes community, values and personal growth in a natural setting away from the bustle of technology and everyday stressors. This summer, start a tradition of Camp Shady Brook in your family, or come back to the place you call home! INCREDIBLE STAFF Camp Shady Brook recruits the finest staff from across the world to be role models for our campers. Staff members are mature, responsible, caring and committed to youth development. From running safe activities to knowing how to help our campers adapt to and enjoy the overnight camp experience, our staff are amazing. Each staff member is trained to ensure that your child builds confidence, makes friends, learns new skills and grows as an individual in the comfort of a welcoming and caring environment. SAFETY A nurse is on duty and onsite 24 hours a day. A doctor is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All staff are certified in First Aid, CPR/AED, Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens training. All waterfront activities are supervised and managed by certified lifeguards. All staff are carefully interviewed, screened and pass criminal background checks prior to being hired. All staff participate in an intensive two-week training prior to the start of camp. Camp Shady Brook meets or exceeds the standards of the American Camp Association and is licensed by the State of Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Early Care and Learning. Special Needs Camp Shady Brook does not discriminate against campers with special needs, but must take the safety of the entire group into consideration. Please contact the Camp Shady Brook office to discuss the specific needs of your camper campshadybrook.org campinfo@ppymca.org
3 ONLINE ADVANTAGE Parents can enjoy an easy, entirely online registration process with CampMinder. Upload all required documents directly to the Camp Shady Brook website instead of ing or sending them by mail. Parents also have the opportunity to break their payment into installments, helping you more easily manage your budget. Once your child is at camp, you can enjoy daily photos, trading post management and one-way s to your camper, all from your CampMinder account! Register now at campshadybrook.org CABIN LIFE There is nothing more central to our campers experience than cabin life. Campers are grouped by age and gender with a minimum of two counselors in each cabin. In the cabin, our campers learn to live together as part of a community. In this small group, campers foster self-awareness, communication skills, trust and problem-solving abilities. Our cabins range from lodges with bathrooms attached to cabins to tent platforms. Call our office today to learn more or to schedule a camp tour. WHAT WILL MY CAMPER EAT? Campers enjoy three nutritious meals each day. We strive to provide a healthy balance and a variety of foods, including vegetarian options. Special diets, allergies or other medical needs can typically be accommodated with advance notice to the chef. Simply indicate the dietary needs of your child on your camper s health history form. If you have additional questions, requests, or would like to provide more detailed information, please feel free to contact us. VALUES-BASED PROGRAMMING ARE YOU CAMP SHADY BROOK ALUMNI? At Camp Shady Brook, we believe we provide much more than just a fun recreational experience. Through activities, staff role models and daily conversations, campers learn about and practice our four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. We believe you will notice your child s growth in their understanding and use of these values after time at camp. For over 70 years, Camp Shady Brook has been home to so many unforgettable summer camp experiences and lifelong friendships. Were you a camper? Did you work at CSB? If so, you are part of our alumni family. Reconnect with old friends, share your story, and stay in the loop with CSB. Campers will experience how to groom and tack a horse as well as learn basic riding techniques of controlling and steering a horse at a walk. Riding will occur in the arena and on the trail. Campers will spend their mornings at the barn and then participate in afternoon and evening camp activities with their cabinmates. A horse show on closing day will allow riders to show their new skills to friends and family. $750 Y member, $825 non-member HORSEMASTERS Ages For riders with some horse experience, this program offers a progression from Horsemasters Junior. Riders will care for their horses and begin to advance their riding technique. Campers in this program will work on agility and learn how to ride at a trot, a quicker gait than a walk. Riding will occur in the arena and on the trail. Campers will spend their mornings at the barn and then participate in normal afternoon and evening camp activities with their cabinmates. A horse show on closing day will allow riders to show their new skills to friends and family. $750 Y member, $825 non-member ADVANCED HORSEMASTERS Ages This program is for riders who have a mastery of the basic skills of riding and are looking for the extra challenge of an advanced program. Campers will spend their mornings at the barn and then participate in normal afternoon and evening camp activities with their cabinmates. A horse show on closing day will allow riders to show their new skills to friends and family. $750 Y member, $825 non-member campshadybrook.org campinfo@ppymca.org

10 Dear Camp Shady Brook Families, This opportunity you are giving your child is something that they will cherish forever. The ability for your camper to just be themselves in a safe and supporting environment is a gift that, while they may not realize it today, has the power to shape who they are for their future. Camp is a community where children are able to develop life skills and friendships, build their independence, try new activities and gain confidence that will perpetuate into their adulthood. I have been in the camping industry for my entire professional career, and am absolutely a believer in what camp can do for children and their families. We sincerely look forward to meeting your child this summer, sharing our love for the outdoors and helping your camper experience all of the opportunities Camp Shady Brook has to offer.
