1 CUATRO ESTADOS The Prez Sez Welcome to summertime! Hope you are all out and about enjoying the RVing lifestyle, and planning to join us on upcoming rally adventures. The June Creede rally is about to start as we write this, and we are expecting a great turnout of members, guests, and new friends attending the Region 1 Rally. Later in June, hope you will be joining us in Jemez Springs NM schedule follows. The Moab rally in May was wonderful (see article & photos)! Since the July rally in Mueller SP cancelled, we are offering an alternative on July 1 st here in Albuquerque: BUCKINGHAM'S BACKYARD BURGER BURN AND POTLUCK. And don t miss the flyer promoting the Sept Rocky Mountain Ramble to be held in Farmington in September. Seems really early but we are already working on ideas for next year s schedule. Have a suggested location and willing to be rallymaster for it? Let me know! Always looking for someplace new and different! Rae raecyp65@gmail.com, , In This Issue 1. Prez Sez Rally Schedule. 7. 3 PAST RALLY ADVENTURE MOAB, UTAH -- May 1-5, 2017 Rallymasters: Rae & Dub Phillips Not much can be said about this location for a rally except WOW!! The stunning scenery takes center stage in this area surrounded by towering monoliths and buttes, amazing arches, flowing green rivers sandwiched between dark canyon walls, and set off by pockets of lush green vegetation on red rock all around. For the most part the weather cooperated, except for unexpected rains/winds the first day. Second bad news was Arches National Park which we were trying to tour that first day -- had parts of it closed off (campground & road construction), which tripled the crowds trying to get in the few parking areas remaining in order to do hikes. So between the weather and crowds, we didn t see/do all we had planned but it was still an awesome site to see. Weather cleared enough for our wine & cheese party that evening. Second day most everyone joined us for a stunning trip down into the heart of Canyonlands National Park. While 4WD wasn t absolutely required, it sure did come in handy in a few tough spots on this jeep trail that started along the Colorado River and then ran the table lands about halfway between the river and the tops of nearby cliffs, finishing up with a challenging series of switchbacks to climb out on top. Day 3 we once again took on a jeep trail up Onion Creek with 27 creek crossings (although some are still arguing about how many they counted) and instead of the vastness 3

4 of Canyonlands, we were up close and personal within a narrow canyon. All sorts of critters and such were imagined in the cliffs and outcropping that dominated along the way. Lunch at Red Cliffs Lodge was great, on a beautiful working ranch along the river. The Museum of Film and Western Heritage turned out to be really great too; so much movie history in this region! And final stop was the winery also located at Red Cliffs Ranch. Day 4 some of us tried to reach Gemini Bridges up a very steep, rough route which we aborted after a mile or less so went to Dead Horse Point State Park instead (amazing views). Then were more successful getting to Gemini Bridges via the back route. These bridges are just like arches in appearance, but here we come out on TOP of them instead of below them as in Arches NP. That final evening s dinner at Branding Iron Restaurant was enjoyable, even if a bit confusing to begin with, and a chance to visit with one another walking around the campground finished off the rally that evening. Attending the rally were: Buckingham, Catalana, Eckel, Engleman, Herr, McVey/Skaug, Phillips, Thornton, Williams, and Zawistoski. Not everyone participated in everything on the schedule; many went exploring on their own, some went hiking, some shopping, several checked out the local breweries and eating places (and there were plenty!) And Herrs had a tire to get fixed, and then Englemans had motorhome engine trouble with fears they would wind up out on the street (no campsites available if they had to stay over extra days) but they were saved by a one-armed mechanic and a trip to Grand Junction to get parts. MEMBERS NEWS & DIRECTORY CHANGES We said goodbye to an alumni, Bob TerMaat, who passed away in May. For over 12 years he enjoyed traveling with us on caravan trips and attending rallies in his small Pleasureway motorhome. While living & working in Albuquerque, he spent years taking care of his parents until their passing. He was also dedicated to working with Explorer Scouts as well as Ham Radio activities. A confirmed bachelor, he became an important participant at Lost Dutchman RV Park, Apache Junction AZ, where he lived his later years notably working in the local post office, helping with sound system for entertainment, and welcoming back snowbirds by setting up their electronics each winter. He will be missed! Please make these Corrections to your Directory Carlson server changed to Gmail: charlescarls14@gmail.com Williams is wrong. Correct okieboy63@gmail.com (one too many i s was in okie) Engleman Barry lost his phone, so delete his number. Just use Jann s: Zawistoski Telephone listed is Genny s cell number; no house phone. FMCA news We have appointed Galina Erickson to represent our chapter at the important National Meeting coming up in July at FMCA s International Convention. She has been instructed by our membership to vote in favor of allowing all types of RVs into FMCA. We believe this to be an important direction FMCA must go in order to remain viable. From what we see on the 50 and Over RVers facebook page, most newbies just now getting into the RVing lifestyle and there are hundreds doing it monthly! are choosing to start with trailers, 5 th wheels, or an amazing array of creative camping units including some motorhomes as well. Since we anticipate this change passing at the convention, feel free to invite those with trailers or 5 th wheels or whatever to attend our rallies. We will definitely be making the change along with FMCA! You may have noticed a new button on the home page or on your member profile when you log in to FMCA.com. It s the FMCA AMAZON PORTAL a direct link to ordering items on Amazon.com from FMCA s 4

5 site. Every time you use this portal on FMCA.com, FMCA earns a percentage of the purchase price of the items you order without any increase in your cost. So next time you need to order from Amazon, use the FMCA link. You ll get the same great prices and service, but help out FMCA as well! THE REST OF THE 2017 RALLIES (Dates are arrival and departure dates) Cancelled! July 2-8 Divide/Woodland Park, CO. Mueller State Park.
