From the Editor Hi Folks, Firstly, many thanks to Jeanette and her assistant Archie for all the hard, dedicated work they have put into this magazine over the many years. They re a hard act to follow, but I ll try my very best! Archie has said on numerous occasions that this is everyone s magazine and I am relying on all club members to provide me with some input. If you have anything you think would be of interest to put in the magazine, please it to me. It is a real pleasure for me to be voted in as both your Secretary & Editor and the pain from having my arm twisted behind my back by Merilyn Bates has almost gone now..!! As most of you know my real job is as Health, Safety, Environment Manager for Foster Construction here in Hamilton and I am married to Janine. I have a passion for both vehicles with the blue oval and my work, so where I can, I will combine both in this magazine. After all, if it wasn t for the dapper chap below, we as a club probably wouldn t be where we are today! New members who have joined since our last magazine was published. Jan & Nicky Telford, Dave & Bridget Murtagh, Craig Pollock, Craig & Christine Leith, Jim & Irena Leadbeater. Welcome everyone, I hope you participate as much as you can in the many club activities that are arranged for you. I would encourage all club members to make themselves known to the new members and make them feel very welcome. Cheers, Murray.

Did You Know? Currently anyone can purchase name and contact details through the Motor Vehicle Register. The register, which lists licence plate numbers and owners home addresses for cars registered in this country, is available from New Zealand Post outlets, Vehicle Testing NZ, AA vehicle testing stations and Vehicle Inspection NZ. Ownership details can be bought for $3. From 1 April next year, a new law will better protect personal information on the Motor Vehicle register. There will also be an opt out option for those people who don t want their details publicly available on the register after 1 April Go to Te Aroha Cruise-In Friday - Sunday 1st-3rd October The streets of Te Aroha made way for some of the best vehicles around as the 2010 Auto One Cruise-In took place over the weekend of the 1st to the 3rd of October. The cruise started on Friday with local rest home residents being picked up by a dozen classic cars for a ride around town. Later that evening one of the local Primary Schools hosted a drive-in movie which drew about 50 cars to the local rugby ground. Saturday dawned bright and fine and about 400 vehicles including hot rods. classic cars, military vehicles, bikes, boats and stock cars flowed into town and filled the main street attracting a huge crowd. Most participants agreed it was a unique event and were very keen to return next year. Proceeds went to the local Fire Brigade and St Johns who were delighted with the success and the efforts of the local organising committee. A mystery cruise took place on Sunday involving 20 plus cars that stopped for lunch at Okoroire and then home. A good weekend of activities that can be recommended to members for next year. Cheers, Bryce

Bob & Deidre Hastie s Road Trip Deidre and I spent some time travelling on Route 66 in July/Aug 2010 where we and two friends followed 4 other couples around the USA on Harley Motorcycles. Everyone we met was great and so friendly, we were all talking like cowboys after a couple of days. In short we flew to San Francisco, did Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge and the Cable Car. Then flew to Las Vegas while the bikers rode up to Vancouver in Canada. In Vegas we did everything, even went to a Terry Fator Show it was fantastic, looked at a new Mustang and met up with the guy who owned my car before me. Drove to Boulder City and the Hoover Dam, Route 66 to Williams through Oatman, Kingman Hackberry and Seligman and the Grand Canyon we also got to go to a rodeo here and one in Great Falls at their States Fair in Wyoming. Then down to Phoenix via Sedonna (did a helicopter flight through the mountains) then flew to Calgary where we hired a car and drove back across the Rockies and met up with the bikers. Four days in Canada then dropped back into Montana, Wyoming and Yellowstone then across to Cody, Sheridan and onto Sturgis for 4 days. 400,000 Harley s in a town no bigger than Huntly. Partied each night in places like the Full Throttle Saloon and One Eyed Jacks, lots of hooters on display!! From there we did Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Deadwood. Three days across the top to Milwaukee for three days. From there down to Peoria (Caterpillar tour) two days to get to Nashville (Grand Ole Opry and C & W Hall of fame) Lynchburg to the Jack Daniels Distillery and then to Memphis (Elvis and Beale St) Down to Vicksburg (Casino on the Mississippi) then our last two nights in New Orleans and Bourbon St (more hooters!). Did the Katrina tour and three of us went to a gridiron game 72,000 people at the Superdome New Orleans (American super bowl champs) v San Diego. I flew out leaving the bikes to complete the round trip across through Texas, Arizona, Nevada and back to San Francisco in California. I drove just over 5000m (8000kms) plus two internal flights, the bikes will have covered around 19000km when they get to San Francisco. Driving is a breeze there (if you have a GPS and a Radar Detector). No problems with the right hand side of the road. Bob with America's Mrs Route 66 as on her sash, voted by the public Mrs Route 66 continually tours and promotes Route 66 for the tourist board.

Oatman Arizona- Tourist board in the Goldmine town telling the history behind the 100 or so burros that wander free around town. The Mainstreet of Oatman is Route 66 with live gunfights and bank robbings every 1.5hrs during the middle of the day. Hackberry on Route 66 - Historic diner/petrol station, original 30's - 60's cars on display, you need at least an hour to look around. A must do on Route 66.

Hackberry on Route 66 - Historic diner/petrol station, original 30's - 60's cars on display, you need at least an hour to look around. A must do on Route 66. Hackberry on Route 66 - Deidre getting aquainted with a local.

Just a couple of the many road signs along historic Route 66. Mustangs at Sturgis- A small collection of Mustangs on display for their upcoming show at Labour weekend in Sturgis, South Dakota

Boss Hog- One of the many V8 motorbikes as part of the 400,000 motorcycles at the 70th Black Hills Rally in Sturgis for the week of 7th-13th August Mustang Sally's at Deadwood- Famous Mustang Sally's café at Deadwood across the road from Saloon 10 where Wild Bill Hickock was shot in the back, giving life to the legend of the poker players Dead Mans Hand ie. (Aces and Eights).

Mount Rushmore National Memorial - (l to r) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln carved in stone represent the first 150 years of the history of the United States, a truly great site and another must do in America.

Crazy Horse Memorial - The worlds largest mountain carving located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Started in the 1950's and will not be finished in our lifetime. The finished statue will be Chief Crazy Horse mounted on his horse and pointing to the lands beyond (My lands are where my dead are buried). To realise how big it will be check out the 20t diggers at the bottom right of the photo. This is another must see.

Full Throttle Saloon, Sturgis- This is the biker bar that is televised on the Discovery Channel. It is unbelievable inside 20+ bars, 1/2 a dozen eating places, full sized stage, dancing girls and a duel burn out pad for bikes in the middle. Gracelands- We visited Elvis Presley's Automobile Museum at Gracelands. We also toured his house and his aeroplanes, the Lisa Marie and Hound Dog 11.

Funny Stuff! Letters to the Council 1) "I want some repairs done to my cooker as it has backfired and burnt my knob off." 2) "I wish to complain that my father hurt his ankle very badly when he put his foot in the hole in his back passage." 3) "Their 18 year old son is continuously banging his balls against my fence." 4) "I wish to report that tiles are missing from the roof of the outside toilet and I think it was bad wind the other night that blew them off." 5) "The lavatory seat is cracked, where do I stand?" 6) "I am writing on behalf of my sink which is coming away from the wall." 7) "Will you please send someone to mend the garden path. My wife tripped and fell on it yesterday and now she is pregnant." 8) "I request your permission to remove my drawers in the kitchen." 9) "Can you please tell me when the repairs will be done as my wife is about to become an expectant mother." 10) "I am still having trouble with smoke in my built in drawers." 11) "The toilet is blocked and we cannot bath the children until it is cleared." 12) "Will you please send a man to look at my water, it is a funny colour and not fit to drink." 13) "Our lavatory seat is broken in half and now it is in three pieces." 14) "Would you please send a man to repair my spout. I am an old age pensioner and need it straight away." 15) "I want to complain about the farmer across the road; every morning at 6am his cock wakes me up and it's getting too much." 16) "The man next door has a large erection in the back garden, which is unsightly and dangerous." 17) "Our kitchen floor is damp. We have two children and would like a third so will you please send someone around to do something about it." 18) "I am a single woman living in a downstairs flat and would be pleased if you could do something about the noise made by the man I have on top of me every night." 19) "Please send a man with clean tools to finish the job and satisfy the wife." 20) "I have had the Clerk of the Works down on the floor six times, but still have no satisfaction." 21) "We are getting married in September and would like it in the garden before we move into the house." A blonde was driving home after a game and got caught in a really bad hailstorm. Her car was covered with dents, so the next day she took it to a repair shop. The shop owner saw that she was a blonde, so he decided to have some fun. He told her to go home and blow into the tail pipe really hard, and all the dents would pop out. So, the blonde went home, got down on her hands and knees and started blowing into her tailpipe. Nothing happened. So she blew a little harder, and still nothing happened. Her blonde roommate saw her and asked, 'What are you doing?' The first blonde told her how the repairman had instructed her to blow into the tail pipe in order to get all the dents to pop out. The roommate rolled her eyes and said, 'Duuh, like hello! You need to roll up the windows first.'
