APRIL MEETING Bobby Bostick, President of the Oceanic Research and Salvage Company 1, LLC, will be our guest speaker on the 14th. Bobby is a treasure hunter and salvager. His company is a family run organization with unpublished success. They mainly work offshore on fairly deep wrecks. Bobby will be bringing pictures of their finds that will blow your minds. He and his wife Carol have been members of our club since March There were no services locally. He was taken back to Wisconsin. John was an experienced metal detectorist and was always willing to share his experience and tips to all. Our sympathy to his wife Carol and his surviving family: Children; Judy Greaker, Janet Boettcher (Brian), Debbie Whiting, Dan Presslein (Paula), Mark Presslein (Erin). Eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one brother. Dr. Kajiura presented a very informative slide show. His statistics informed the membership of the migration pattern of our visiting 10,000 plus sharks off the beaches of Palm Beach County. He explained why people are attacked due to the visibility of the water, i.e. the further south one goes the clearer the water and therefore less attacks. He further explained the pattern is mainly comprised of male sharks and appears to be extending due to the warming of the water. The females appear to be birthing further North, an oddity, perhaps explained by the necessity of slower traveling by the female due to pregnancy. He further showed just how close the sharks are to the shoreline; real close! For more information go to : science.fau.edu March Birthday dollars were collected by Cyndee Freeman, Marge Hamlin and Jason Petenbrink. Our Treasurer, Nick Mosca, reported $ in the treasury. Membership renewal is $35 plus an additional $5 late fee (after January 31 st ). In addition, it was asked that members join the FDMAC for an additional $5. FDMAC lobbies for our hobby, they are our watchdogs. President Nash spoke of a Cruise to Bermuda for ten days, costs $700 (26 th of May through June 4 th Carnival Cruise Lines). Amy Hamedl said there was no charge but permission is required for metal detecting. Vern Blausey, Librarian, is back in business. Arrangements have been made with the Science Center to retain our library in storage at the Science Center for our use monthly. Paul Hamlin stumped the membership with a spark plug for the Mystery Stumper. Next month Cheryl Petenbrink will provide the stumper. John Lobota presented information on his John Prince Hunt for March 20 th. President Nash spoke of an upcoming hunt for April to be held at a special place in Jupiter Farms, more to come. The 50/50 for $41 was won by Jan Smirnow. As time did not allow, the Scavenger Hunt for March through April 10 th was not mentioned, but it is being held, so please participate. 3 APRIL HUNT John Lobota is hosting Mound Circle hunt in John Prince Park. Arrive at 10 am with members to bring a side dish, folding chairs and card table if available. Date to be decided at April meeting. Club will supply BBQ Chicken, water and other drinks. Hunt will start at 10:30 sharp and take place on the Circle Mound. There will be 3,000 pennies plus tokens scattered on the surface. No scoops or diggers, beep and pick up the coin. Prizes will include silver dimes and quarters among other items. Saturday April 30th Pennwood Motor Lodge Wabasso, Florida Anyone that has been to these cookouts before knows that these cookouts are a great time and I know I look forward to attending each year, catching up with old friends and making new ones, hearing all the great treasure hunting stories(true and false) and making plans for the upcoming season. There will be food, drinks and treasure to be had. There will be some beer but for the most part you will need to bring your own adult beverages. I'm hoping to have a treasure raffle, so if enough people bring some cool treasure items to raffle off we can do that. I would also like to have a treasure swap meet; bring your treasure hunting related gear or items to sell or swap and a table to set everything on. Anyone that can send pre-cookout cash/check/money order donations to help with the food and misc costs please do so. I can tell you that in the past too much of the load was placed on one person.
