2 Presidents Corner Boyz and Girlz, Wishing you all the very best as the holiday is around the corner. It has been another stellar summer of shows and driving events. Highlights for me were the Fathers Day Cruise - 4th of July BBQ - Drive In cruise - Day at the Races Cruise - and the Waterfront Festival. Thanks to all our members for all the help and efforts for all the events that allow our club to thrive and grow. Always a great time when the Boyz and Girlz get together. 3 The 24 hour Mustang Recently I owned a 67 Mustang Coup - for 24 hours. I'll tell you the story but first a little background info. One of our good friends, Lori, takes care of her ex husbands aunt and uncle even though she has been divorced for decades and he is now dead. We all referred to them as Auntie Ann and Uncle Virgil and they actually live right down the street from Kim and I. Kim and I, Denise, Greg, and Mole have known them for about 30 years. Auntie Ann always drove a Baby Blue 67 Mustang with a 289 and automatic trans that I thought was beautiful. I told Auntie Ann that I wanted to inherit it from her one day. Uncle Virgil was not allowed to drive it because it was her baby. About 10 years back, Auntie Ann got real sick and had to go into a care home where she remains to this day. Uncle Virgil promised her that he would take care of her Mustang until she came home. When they realized she wasn't coming home, Uncle Virgil started driving it now and then to keep it in good shape. I told him that I wanted to know when they wanted to sell it but he said he would never let it go. The car has been out of the garage overnight just 4 times in 40 years. Lori said he would go to the single car garage and sit in the Mustang and take naps and would pull it out of the garage when there was a light rain and just sit in it enjoying the rain. Fast forward to the present day and Uncle Virgil is 95 years old and walks very stooped over and can't hear unless you yell in his ear. Not trying to make fun of Uncle Virgil because he's a great guy. He's unable to go up the stairs to the main house so he lives in a small room in the basement which is at garage level and a few years back I helped him turn the space into his living quarters. A month ago, Lori called me from his house and said Virgil wanted my help in selling the Mustang because he couldn't back it into the single car garage any more or drive it. The driveway is downhill with a gate at the head and you can barely walk between the car and the walls when you get it in the garage. All I could visualize in my mind was this beautiful blue car. I told Virgil I would get an idea on what it was worth so I called that authority on anything cars - Mark Miller. He said to ask $8,000 but don't go less than $7,000. I asked Virgil how much he wanted for it and he said $5,000 and I immediately said I would buy it and Virgil said ok. That was a mistake because Virgil said that I responded to quickly and it made him think he was asking too little so he tried to change his mind but Lori said a deal was a deal. So the next day I took him $5,000 cash and viewed the car. The car was not in good shape. He had hit the garage a couple of times requiring body work and new paint. It had a few other things wrong with it and I realized I might have made a mistake but a deal was a deal. I drove the car home and parked it in front of my house which I later found out made Virgil mad when she drove him by the next day and he saw it. The next night Lori called me and said that Uncle Virgil had been unable to sleep or eat and he was sick because the Mustang was gone and he wanted to know if I would sell it back to him. I realized that I could get my money back the easy way so I said yes. I really felt sorry for Virgil. But then Lori sweetened the pot. Virgil told her that if he died in the near future I was to get the car for $2,000 and if he died after a longer period of time I would get the car for free. So I took the car back to him which made him really happy and we shook on the new deal. I know he can't damage it any more because he can't drive any more. That's how I owned a Mustang for 24 hours. 4 Featured Car of the Month Gunar Hansken s 1957 Chevrolet Gunar isn t a club member, but he does do a lot with our club, plus he s a friend. Gunar s story: I lucked into it...originally my buddy was going to buy it for someone from Sweden, but it would take too much to restore, so I took Anji s roommate over to look at it... He said, this isn't the car for me, I'd want to strip it and powder coat the frame, etc... He then says, why don't you buy it? This ' was run in Modified Production class in the late '60's-early '70's. It had sat for 30+ years when I found it in The 5.86 geared '57 Pontiac rear end was all that remained of the drivetrain, the Rochester injected 283 and 4 speed were long gone. The bumper had been removed and the wheel wells radiused along the way which would have moved it from MP class to one of the Gasser classes. Not sure if it was ever campaigned that way. I added a tunnel rammed small block and an Eelco fuel tank to the car...paint and interior are as it was found. The rest is history.

5 One of the big winners at the Waterfront Car Show was Cheryl Brown with her 1969 Mercury Cougar Letter from Phil Lang Hi Club Members, I want to sincerely thank all of the club members who helped with the Waterfront Weekend Car Show. Club members Steve Lane, Ralph Finley, Laura Miller and Al Ramos all contributed trophies which were a big hit with the car show participants. Shon Hobbs (who I met at the last show) and C&C Automotive also contributed trophies. Cheryl Brown took on the thankless task of assembling 150 goodie bags on short notice, and did a great job of it. Gina and Tom Duncan, Kurt & Steph Albrecht, Steve Lane and Greg Conrad got everyone registered and made it run smoothly. Jon and Debbie Donham, Steve Kent, Jay Fitch and Adolph Keyes got all the cars parked in the space allotted and made sure everyone got in the driveway and down to registration. Jeff Singley, Ralph Finley and Gunar Hansken from the Swanx did the judging for most of the trophies while Mary Morrow and Cheryl Brown judged the Girlz Choice award. Kerry Scott and Frank Griffith judged the Boyz Choice award. Overall the event was pretty successful and thanks to all who came out and participated.
