Collette Willmett T he Photo Competition on Wednesday 17th of October was a very enjoyable, well attended event with 56 members present, and more photos than we have seen for many years. It was so good to see some new faces winning prizes for some really good photographs. Mention in particular must be made of Tony Tanguy s excellent display of photos. Not surprising really when you see the camera that he uses, but the best camera in the world will not take winning pictures unless the operator has an eye for a subject. Tony obviously has. Caption: Dee Smith The evening ended with Cheese and Wine, and a good chance to chat. Our President, Dave Ellis, welcomed the several new members present, and told another one of his jokes. Where does he get them? I thought Beano went out of print years ago.

2 Some words of warning received from Jan & Dennis Ferbrache. I f you are driving at night and eggs are thrown at your windscreen, do not stop to check the car, do not operate the wiper, and do not spray any water because eggs mixed with water become milky and block your vision up to 92.5%, and you are then forced to stop beside the road and may become a victim of criminals. Jan & Den sent me an that they have received, warning drivers to be aware that gangs of criminals (doesn t say where) who have resorted to placing a childs car seat at the side of the road with a fake baby in it, in an attempt to get a passing motorist to stop, when they are beaten up and robbed. I don t know how prevalent this ruse is, I suspect it might be apocryphal, or have happened once somewhere. Rather like the scare a few years ago about people being gassed in their campervans, which was proved to be a load of nonsense when it was looked into by experts. Anyway in this case, the advice is not to stop or even slow down, but to call the Police. I can envisage a problem there. In France It is an offence in Law not to stop to help someone in trouble after a road accident. So either way, you have a problem! Earlier this year our Vice President, Glenda Killip very kindly, arranged for those of us who wanted them, to be given Randall's Discount Cards. I am sure that those of us who have used them have been delighted to be able to get 15% off our meals at Randall's owned Pubs and Restaurants. A very worthwhile saving indeed. The cards are up for renewal shortly, should you no longer wish to receive one perhaps you would be good enough to contact Glenda as soon as possible on or at : glendave@googl .com I am still seeking photos of Members as they were in or around 1952 / 3 for display at the Theme Evening. I have enlarged quite a few already to A4 size, unfortunately, due to the age and quality of some of the originals, the results are not all quite as good as I had hoped,but there are one or two surprises in store for you! If you would ike to be included in the display, please either send or bring your photos to me here at Beechvale Farm. A welcome offering from John Williams. I wouldn t be at all surprised if there isn t a grain of truth in it too!

3 E mail receiving Members of our Club will have read about Milke and Annette Price s plans to sail across the Atlantic to the West Indies in a Yacht, and from there, possibly down to New Zealand. Although both Mike and Annette are relatively speaking, still in their prime, this will be an exciting and daunting adventure for them, and I would imagine not without considerable risk. We wish them all the very best, good fortune, fair winds, and a safe return. Mike has promised to bring back loads of video or slides to show us at one of our winter meetings in the future. Something to look forward to. Alan le Maistre is attending Hospital in Southampton, but getting on well and feeling confident that his treatment is hitting the spot. I understand that he will have been over there for six weeks and is understandably, finding it very boring. Let us hope that he will soon be back with us fit and well and raring to go. I know that Members will join me in sending him very best wishes for a speedy return to full health. Thanks to Daphne Bunting for these Church Notice Bloomers. Some I have used before, but they still make me smile. Don t let worry kill you off -- Let the Church help. Miss Charlene Mason sang: I will not pass this way again. To the obvious pleasure of the Congregation. For those of you who have children and don t know it, we have a Nursery downstairs. Next Thursday there will be try-outs for the Choir. They need all the help they can get. Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24th in Church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days. At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be : Where is Hell? Come early and listen to our choir practise. Potluck Supper. Sunday at 5 pm - Prayer and medication to follow. The Associate Minister unveiled the Church s new campaign slogan last Sunday: I upped my pledge - Up yours. W ould everyone coming to the Theme Evening on Wednesday 14th November, please bring a dinner plate, dessert dish, knife, fork and spoon. This promises to be a memorable evening, with live music, good food, good wine and good fun. Don t miss it! If you have not sent in your Reply Slip, please do so now. We need to know the number coming at least one week before the event. Don t forget. A Fancy dress costume of any kind will add to the fun of the evening. The cause to which we will be donating all profits this year is Headway. A very worthwhile local charity

4 I have recently heard very good reports of a young Motor Engineer who has set up a maintenance and repair workshop in Trinity, John Hinault s workshop is fully equipped with heavy duty vehicle lifts and is able to carry out Diagnostic checks, mechanical and electrical servicing and repairs on large vehicles including Campervans. His hourly rate is 46. I will give him a go in the New Year with our AutoTrail. Rue des Boulees can be reached from either La Route de Maufant or Victoria Village. H ow time flies. Here we are only just over one month away from our Annual Christmas Lunch at the Red Rose Restaurant being held on Sunday 9th of December. In the past few years they have provided us with really first class meals, with a festive atmosphere to get us in the mood for Christmas. The cost per person is 18 which includes a service charge but not drinks. Time for 1pm. A Reply Slip is included with this newsletter to be returned to Sheila Ecobichon by the 1st of December.. O ur Rally Organisers have at last let us into the secret of where the main 2013 Rally is to be held. In a new departure for us, we will be heading North, to Camping Le Cormoran, Ravenoville Plage, Normandy. No, I have never heard of it either! A real surprise. I am assured that it is a super Five Star Campsite with a heated pool, Restaurant, and very good facilities. Robin has handed out a provisional Rally Programme, which may or may not be subject to modification according to circumstances before next June. A copy is included for those who were not present at the Photo Competition. The Rally dates, later than usual, are from Wednesday 12th June - Tuesday 18th June. Fuller details, and a Reply Slip will be sent out with the Christmas Newsletter or just after. Details of the Shakedown Rally in April are not yet finalised but it is likely to be held somewhere in Southern Brittany. Only six months to wait! DIARY DATES Saturday November 3rd.
