Please book early as places are limited. Details of how to book can be found with each individual event. Some events do not require pre-booking. Cancellations and refunds No refund will be given unless the event is cancelled by the organisers or there are exceptional circumstances. Arriving at your event You are advised to arrive at the event at least 10 minutes before the start time. There will be an event leader there to meet you whatever the weather. In unsafe conditions a safety assessment will be made and a decision may be taken to cancel the event if necessary. What you need to know All young people under 16 attending the events listed must be accompanied by an adult. Photographs Please note we may take photographs at our events. Photos might be used in future publicity. If you have any objections please advise the leader at the start of the event. Dogs Where dogs are allowed this will be stipulated otherwise we ask that dogs are left at home. Clothing and what to bring with you Warm and waterproof clothing and suitable footwear is recommended on all events. Please wear walking boots on all walks. Please bring plenty to drink and on longer events you may need a packed lunch. If refreshments are available at the event location this will be stated in the programme or when you make your booking. Rides All cycles must be roadworthy and in a good working condition. If in doubt please get your bike professionally serviced prior to the ride. All participants must wear a correctly fitting cycle safety helmet. On family rides it is recommended that each adult is responsible for no more than 2 children. Please ride your bike in accordance to the guidelines of the Highway Code. Horse Rides Horse and rider must have the fitness and competence to take part in the event and (if on your own horse) 3rd party liability insurance. Participants must wear a hi-viz jacket if provided, appropriate footwear and a hard hat of current standard. DAVID HOCKNEY Walkers are Welcome Walkers are Welcome is a national initiative which started in 2007 and now has over 100 member towns who all promote walking activity and a warm welcome to walkers. There are 3 towns in the Wolds namely Market Weighton, Beverley and Pocklington that are already active and established Walkers are Welcome Towns. Thanks to all of them for arranging walks and events as part of this festival. A programme of events organised by the Beverley Walkers are Welcome group which celebrates and encourages town walking in the beautiful historic town of Beverley. Walking for Health The scheme is a series of free guided walks for all ages and abilities, aimed at anyone who has an interest in walking or wants to slowly introduce exercise into their daily routine. We offer a range of regular walks from 30 minutes to 2hrs. Just turn up 15 minutes before the start wearing comfy shoes, warm clothing and a drink of water. Walking can make you feel good, give you more energy, reduce stress and improve sleep. It also keeps your heart strong and reduces blood pressure as well as helping you to manage your weight. East Ramblers groups provide a full and varied walks programme and are also actively involved in monitoring, maintaining and improving the local rights of way network and preserving the beauty of our countryside. 4 6 7 Wildlife Trust Wildlife Trust is a local charity working to protect s wildlife, both on land and out at sea. With the support of members and volunteers, the trust cares for over 90 nature reserves across the county, and provides events and guided walks all year round. Come face to face with seabirds or spot porpoises on the Flamborough Headland, glimpse otters in the River Hull, scour mudflats filled with birds along the Humber Estuary or look skywards to red kites soaring above the Wolds. The Wolds boast some superb nature trail rides with several equestrian centres which give a great variety of riding experiences. For further information go to rideyorkshire.org

There is so much to enjoy on the Wolds There are plenty of special places to visit in the East Riding countryside and with the wow factor of being outdoors, here are just some of the ways you can get closer to nature. Do you want to see Red Kite, stretch out and relax on a poetry bench, or explore a lost village? Nature reserves can be used by all ages and abilities and are excellent places to explore, go wildlife spotting or play adventure games. Go to yorkshirenaturetriangle.org for lots more ideas. The open access walks booklet has been revised and expanded with more choices where you don t have to stick to paths, but can wander through the landscape. Find out about our FREE NHS Health Check Even though you might be feeling great, if you re over forty you may be at risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, diabetes or dementia. There are loads of walking, horseriding and cycle routes to get you around the countryside safely. You can use the public rights of way finder on walkingtheriding.co.uk to find a route close to you, or choose one of our recommended walks, there are over 300! You could even book onto a countryside event, where you can learn about new places, how the natural world works, get your hands dirty with some practical work or enjoy environmental games and activities. Starting from Beverley Boat Hire s base, follow the tidal River Hull through nature reserves and farmland to Hempholme lock, where BBH staff will assist in the locking through onto the Driffield Navigation. Enjoy a packed lunch at the lock or on your boat, and spend a few hours in the afternoon exploring the Driffield Navigation before leaving your boat at North Frodingham for pre arranged transport back to Beverley. An unusual opportunity for non boat owners to make this interesting one way trip through the tranquil East countryside. Children and Dogs welcome. 7 12 13 Wonderful Wader Walk A walk of approximately 2 miles (With plenty of stops to watch wildlife) to witness the amazing spectacle of wader flocks gathering at Spurn alongside an expert who will help identify the many different species that can be seen. Join your knowledgable guide Colin Bradshaw and starting with a visit to the Guildhall we will follow a route from there via Wednesday Market, Eastgate and Flemingate which will look at how Beverley has and is changing. Topics will include medicine, housing, tanning, archaeology, cock fighting and much more! The clue is in the title! Meeting on the Highgate steps of the Minster we will walk around the exterior, observing the architecture and discussing the reason for such a large church. Next we will proceed to the Guildhall, Register Square and view the exhibition Two Great Churches One Town s Story. As well as being introduced to Nordic Walking, Jason will introduce simple techniques to increase awareness of movement and connection with the natural environment. Using specially designed poles, Nordic Walking works around 90% of your muscles. 9 16 17 Monday 14 September RSPB Bempton Cliffs Photography Workshop Bempton Cliffs is home to over 200,000 seabirds from March to October. This is a very exciting place for wildlife photography, with many great opportunities to capture a variety of species close up, from the birds on the cliff-face to those in flight. These 1 to 1 workshops will be tailored towards beginners and enthusiasts, and will start with a look at the techniques and equipment needed with advice and tips on how to get that perfect wildlife image. You will learn about correct exposure, how to deal with tricky lighting conditions such as harsh sunlight or low light levels, depth of field techniques and how to capture that perfect image. After re-crossing the railway line, the walk returns via the Minster long distance path. Dogs on short leads only. Start Time: to finish at 13.00pm Approx Meeting Point: Market Weighton Town Car Park, York Road Grid Ref: SE Wednesday 16 September Boots and Beer Walk Wolds There is no finer combination than walking followed by beer tasting and we have arranged this perfect pairing for you. We start with a 6.5 mile walk including parts of the Wolds way and taking in some of the superb Wolds landscape that inspires the Wold Top Brewery. The day is capped off with a chance to sample a couple of award winning Wold Top Beers at the Brewery at Hunmanby Grange, with a savoury buffet provided as well to round off the day. Quality Soft Drinks are available for non drinkers. It is all level terrain apart from one moderate incline up to Holme on Spalding Moor Church.
