The preserve is on the right, WESTERN Located in the Cuyamaca Mountains at an elevation of 4,000 feet, this 140-acre preserve is covered with oak trees and manzanita shrubbery. You can hike along the preserve s self-guided trail to an ancient Indian archaeological site. Lake Cuyamaca, north of the preserve, offers excellent fishing. The gold mining town of Julian is nearby. Drive to San Diego to tour one of America s best zoos, plus take in the aquatic attractions of Sea World. GPS Coordinates: N 32 53' 7.13" W ' 28.98"; elevation is 4,010 feet. Drive three more miles to the preserve. We don t recommend Hwy. 79 from the north, because it s very steep, narrow and winding. Driving Warning: The preserve entry from the south (I-8) is a very sharp right turn on a limited-visibility curve. Longer rigs, rigs with tow vehicles, or rigs limited turning radius should proceed north past the preserve for 2.2 miles to the large parking lot on the right (east side of Hwy. 79) to turn around and head straight into the preserve from the north. Please provide your site number to the sender. Nestled in the beautiful Coachella Valley amid 875 date palms, this 25- acre preserve is the perfect winter vacation destination. A golfer s paradise, the Palm Springs area has numerous wellgroomed courses and has become one of the most popular destinations in the world for this activity. The White Water trout farm and Lake Cahuilla are just a short distance away for those interested in fishing. No matter what you enjoy, there is something for you in the desert community! Beautiful natural attractions such as Joshua Tree National Park, Thousand Palms Oasis, Indian Canyon, the Living Desert Wildlife and Botanical Preserve, as well as the Santa Rosa/San Jacinto National Monuments await. This peaceful 180-acre campground offers a wonderful yearround climate with pools, saunas, miniature golf, hiking and biking areas, youth and adult centers and plenty of room to relax. Pio Pico is a short drive from fishing at Otay Lakes, swimming at area beaches, shopping in Mexico and sightseeing in San Diego. Imagine the South Fork American River running through your front yard and the golden color of the Sierra foothills reflecting off your sunglasses. In addition to a swimming beach, there are several places along the river for rafters and kayakers to launch their watercraft. A sparkling swimming pool and a clubhouse (complete with recreation hall) are great places for families to gather, and a general store and cafe provide comfort and convenience to campers. From Highway 50 (big-rig-friendly option): Shingle Springs lies between Cameron Park and Placerville. Take the Ponderosa Road exit and go to the north side of Hwy. 50, where you will find North Shingle Road (to the right just after you cross the bridge over Hwy. 50). Follow North Shingle Road for several miles and it will turn into Lotus Road. Lotus Road ends at Hwy. 49 in Coloma. Turn left, cross the bridge, and the preserve is on the right, just across the river. From Auburn: From I-80, take the Hwy. 49 exit and head south 14 miles. Ponderosa will be on the left just before Coloma. The park entrance requires a broad turn into the parking lot. PLEASE NOTE - This route is not recommended for RVers, because Hwy. 49 has several sharp curves and hills to manage. From San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and points north on Hwy. 101: Take Hwy. 101 south to the Los Olivos/Hwy. 154 turnoff. Stay on Hwy. 154 to Paradise Rd., approximately 24 miles. Turn left onto Paradise Rd. (Look for the Santa Ynez Recreation Area sign just before the turn onto Paradise Road, about one mile past the golf course.) Travel 5.5 miles to the resort entrance. We have plenty of spacious campsites among our madrona, oak and pine trees. You are sure to enjoy the natural wildlife that call these beautiful surroundings home deer, squirrels, raccoons and a large variety of birds, including the quail, bluejays, woodpeckers and our favorite the wild turkeys! The climate is tempered by the ocean, which is only 50 miles to the west, and wildlife is abundant throughout the area. Our modern facilities include full-hookup campsites, two swimming pools, nature trails, a store and food service. There are many natural attractions and activities in the area, such as the Pinnacles National Monument, fresh- and saltwater fishing, and golf courses. Campsites: 435 full hookups, 75 power and water only. Rentals: 25 trailers. Until then, follow Railroad Canyon Road 4.8 miles to Newport Road, and turn right. Go east 5.7 miles and you will pass over the I-215 freeway. Follow the above directions to the resort. From San Diego: Take I-15 north toward Temecula, where the freeway will split. Take I-215 north toward San Bernardino and exit at Newport Road. Turn right and get over to center lane.
