3 BRAND TIMELINE 1960 The stunning Royal Hotel in Copenhagen the world s first designer hotel, created by legendary architect Arne Jacobsen for SAS (Scandinavian Airline Systems) is launched in Denmark. With the Radisson Blu Warwick Hotel, Philadelphia, Hamilton looked to create a design that speaks to the landscape and culture of the city, ensuring it is relevant and tells a tale while keeping in mind the brand s edgy and upper-upscale characteristics. His approach was to neutralize the more ornate background pieces and infuse them with some strong contemporary pieces that align with the hotel s design ethos. Standout features of the new lobby include predominant pendant lighting in a mix of pieces from Dutch and Canadian craftsmen.

9 WARWICK HISTORY WARWICK HISTORY On September 23, 1926, following the Fighting Marine Gene Tunney versus Manassa Mauler Jack Dempsey heavyweight boxing championship, notables such as Florem Ziegfeld, William Randolph Hearst, Tom Mix and Joseph Pulitzer traveled up Broad Street to Rittenhouse Square for a drink at the brand new Warwick Hotel. The hotel quickly became a favorite of both out of town guests and suburbanites looking for a local hangout. As a result of the hotel s overwhelming success, an addition to increase hotel capacity and add extended-stay apartments began in While there were some setbacks which resulted from the 1929 Stock Market Crash, the addition ultimately completed. The hotel then became the official headquarters for women s club, The Acorn Club, and was also a popular watering hole following the annual Army-Navy football games. The Warwick was also known as a top dining destination, and was one of Philadelphia s only four-star dining experiences which continued to thrive after World War II. A menu from the mid-1950s boasted Beluga caviar for USD5.75, filet mignon for USD6.25, and steak Diane for USD6. In addition to attracting epicures from surrounding areas, the Warwick Hotel was a favorite with visiting entertainers in the days when Philadelphia was a top tryout town for shows headed to Broadway. Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner spent their honeymoon at the hotel after their 1951 wedding. Other stars who stayed at the Warwick during the postwar years included Pearl Bailey, Tallulah Bankhead, Jack Benny, Cyd Charisse, Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope, and Sidney Poitier. The latest chapter in the Warwick s life began in 2004 when Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group assumed complete ownership of the property. The following year, Carlson joined with Frankel Enterprises, the former owners of the Warwick, and Allan Domb Real Estate to convert the top eight floors of the hotel into luxury condominiums. The conversion reduced the number of hotel rooms from 545 to 301, while adding 109 condominiums. In 2007, Carlson Rezidor renovated the hotel to add modern amenities. 19 Joanne Cunningham General Manager Radisson Blu Warwick Hotel, Philadelphia In Joanne s 12 years with Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, she continues to earn recognition for her talent and leadership, from her earlier position as director of sales and marketing to her current role in helping usher the Radisson Warwick Hotel into a new era with the fall 2013 conversion to a Radisson Blu hotel. Prior to Radisson Blu, Joanne worked as director of sales at Adam s Mark Hotel and Doubletree Suites Philadelphia.
