1 KOMFORT KRUISERS June 2017 Chula Vista RV Resort WAGONMASTERS: Dan and Cindy S. Rich Mc and Jaimie La Jerry and Trish S. Bill and Sharon M. There was a discussion about when we would get this newsletter out between Terry and I. As you see he won and we re just now getting it out. This is all from my memory and trust me a lot has happened between then and now. If there s any errors please forgive us!! Thursday night we all headed over to the Galley for Fish and Chips (all you can eat). Here s a hint for next year. If you don t want all the batter and grease ask for it grilled. This hint comes from Lew and Rose. They try to get us all in there and out at a reasonable time, but it was a really large group. It was nice that we could walk back to the motorhomes and hopefully walk off some of our dinner. Some of us headed over to Russ and Barb s new motorhome. Russell says it s a 36 footer It s a Thor. Watch out KK s, the Thor s are starting to take over!! Hope Barb has forgiven us for busting in when she hadn t had a chance to put stuff away. Friday we all headed over to the clubhouse for breakfast and the golfers took off for their day in the sun. Some of us gals took a walk around the park and the restaurants. Mostly everyone lazed around or met friends and family in the area. Dinner that night was potluck. The menu mostly consisted of BEANS. I think there were at least six dishes of beans. A campfire was held at Jeff and Trishes site. Saturday saw us heading over for breakfast and the meeting. Scott and Candy A and Bill and Maria S. were voted in as new members. A very touching memorial was dedicated to Jimmy C. and Cynthia was on the phone. I m sure many wanted to say something but like me were too choked up to speak. Jim R. played a song and sang. What continued on page 3. All you can eat Fish & Cips More Fish & Chips diners Duckies!! Newsletter 1

3 a nice tribute to his golf buddy. I think we gave him a good send off. Jimmy may you be in heaven a half hour before the devil knows you re dead (an old Irish saying). In golf first place went to Paul and Scott, and Bill and Adrian took second. Bob and Bill took third, with Terry and Gary taking fourth. Next to last was Jeff and Trish and last was Jim and Dan. Steve was a wild card and had the best score. Dinner that night was pizza and salad. Charlie and Megan invited everyone who wanted to to visit the mansion Another campfire was held at Jeff and Trishes. Sunday morning was leftovers and Pizza. We said our goodbyes to those that were leaving and those that stayed had dinner together in the clubhouse. Friday breakfast donuts, yeah Monday morning saw us leave on what would turn out to be a five week trip. Three thousand miles later we re still talking to each other and the motorhome did a great job with only a few hiccups and operator errors.. 7 Cliff Mansion Submitted by Megan Ryan Cliff Mansion was built between 1924 and 1926 for a successful Los Angeles real estate developer John P. Mills in the Sunset Cliffs area of San Diego. The Mills Mansion was a showcase home built by Mills to promote lot and home sales in the Sunset Cliffs subdivision he owned in Point Loma. The house consists of twenty-eight rooms including six bedrooms with their own distinct tiled separate baths, huge Master Suite with sitting room, dressing room and sunken tub in the master bath, main foyer with stained glass ceiling, orchestra pit, library, pool room and maids quarters. Out buildings included a gardener shed, horse stables and garages. Mills furnished the home with European antiques, silk draperies, Oriental rugs and carpets and ornate custom made furniture in the dining room featuring lions, which were his astrological sign. Also included in the property was the spectacular Sunset Cliff Park originally landscaped in 1915 by Albert Spaulding at a cost of two million dollars. By the time Mills acquired the property the park had fallen into disrepair, but Mills refurbished it at his own cost and returned it to the city in 1924 under the condition the city would maintain it. In 1928 Mills requested the property back since the city was not maintaining it but his request was denied. Eventually the city would demolish the beautiful wooden railed walkways, pebbled staircases, rustic bridges and sitting areas saying it was eroded and unsafe. John Mills, his wife and two daughters Betty and Patricia enjoyed their beautiful home and neighbors recalled many a pool party in the huge heated salt water pool and riding horses from the stables which were eventually converted into a four car garage. With the Great Stock Market Crash of 1929, Mills lost everything and the house and its furnishings were sold at auction and he returned to Los Angeles. The house passed through several owners including an independent brewing company until it was purchased by the current owner, Dr. Joseph A. Ryan in The Mansion was designated a City of San Diego Historical site No. 107 in KK members, 2017 Tour Newsletter 7
8 J O K E R S A R E W I L D Submitted by Michael Cress 4/15/17 Bill feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss. 'Here's what you do,' said the Doctor, 'stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response.' That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was in the den. He says to himself, 'I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens.' Then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?' No response. So the husband moves closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, 'Dear, what's for dinner?' Again there is no response. So he walks right up behind her. 'Honey, what's for dinner?' 'For CHRIST sake, Bill, for the FIFTH time, CHICKEN!' Submitted by Michael Cress 4/22/17 The Usher An elderly woman walked into the local country church The friendly usher greeted her at the door and helped her up the flight of steps. "Where would you like to sit?" he asked politely. "The front row, please," she answered. "You really don't want to do that," the usher said. "The pastor is really boring." "Do you happen to know who I am?" the woman inquired. "No," he said. "I'm the pastor's mother," she replied indignantly. "Do you know who I am?" he asked. "No," she said. "Good," he answered. Still no response. Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his Wife and asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?' Again he gets no response. So, he walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. 'Honey, what's for dinner?' Newsletter 8
