The team who ran the Duck race this year have done an exceptional job in raising 1,400, the highest ever amount of money for the good causes. This is due to the time and effort put in by a few volunteers headed by Di Darbyshire, assisted by Tony Darbyshire & Nick Simon,(River patrol) & Robert Davies.

VILLAGE HALL AGM REPORT The Duck Race At the AGM, the Village Hall Committee thanked all those from Monxton and Amport who helped with this year s Duck Race. Over 1,400 was raised, a terrific effort, to be shared between Amport School and the village hall. A special thanks goes to Diane and Tony Derbyshire, who ran the event, this their second and last year as organisers. Next year we hope new volunteers will run the event (much easier now Diana has put together an information pack). Thanks also go to Tracey and her team at the Mucky Duck for their time and kind donation. The plant stall provided by Mike Cleugh was a sell out with over 100 pounds being raised and Robert Davies was also a sell out on the Tom bola and both therefore are to be congratulated for their efforts. Monxton and Amport Village Hall A sign to name the hall, Monxton and Amport Village Hall has been ordered for the front of the building and, as part of the continuing improvements, the outside will be repainted. Lastly with the support of Monxton Parish council, the Committee are applying for a grant from Test Valley and Hampshire County Council, to help pay for new up to date lighting in the hall, entrance, and outside area and a completely new kitchen. The next Jumble Sale will be on Saturday October 7 th. Katie Parfrey has designed the posters for these, over the last year and the committee thank her for all the work involved.

4 EXTRACT FROM THE MINUTES OF The Monxton Parish Council TUESDAY 11 TH JULY 2006 AT 8.00 pm Full edition available on the Monxton Website or from the Parish Clerk MATTERS ARISING (Abridged version) VILLAGE HALL Mrs Saville read out a report from David Hodgson. The village hall committee is looking to carry out some improvement to the kitchen and the lighting in the hall. The village hall committee have 8,000 in their current account and 10,000, which is held in reserve for roof repairs and replacement heating. Mr Hodgson has enquired about grants. The criteria TVBC use to see if one qualifies for a grant is organisations with a sufficient level of funds held as uncommitted reserves to meet one year of running costs plus the cost of the project are not eligible to apply. As it is estimated the works will cost around 6,000 and the annual running costs are approximately 3,000, it would appear that the village hall may be eligible for a grant. TVBC would contribute 21.5 %, HCC 33%, Monxton Parish Council 12.5 % and Monxton Village Hall Committee 33%. Mrs Saville asked the Parish Councillors and Chairman if the council was prepared to contribute and it was confirmed that as a sum is already set aside for such improvement this contribution could be taken from this amount. The parish council reiterated that three quotes must be obtained before each project to be carried out to comply with government rules. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH Mrs Brandwood advised the council there had been a burglary on the High Street at the house adjoining the car park. The police recommend an alarm, which may act as a deterrent. Mrs Brandwood will provide an article for the next edition of Monxton Matters on how to address this issue. SUNNYBANK The Chairman advised the meeting that following the presentation by John Lancaster of Community Action for Hampshire at the AGM, the Parish council have confirmed that they support the idea of affordable housing in the village. For reasons that were discussed at the AGM, the allotment area seems to be the most appropriate and the parish council have requested that a play area should be incorporated within the scheme along with an appropriate path for the residents of Sunnybank to use. The clerk will contact Cllr Pat West to see if she has any more information on the footpath across the allotments. TRAFFIC CALMING The traffic calming measures have now been completed in the village. The anti skid surface has been put on both sides on the pinch points when entering the village. The Monxton village signs still need to be addressed. The Clerk will be taking to Hampshire Highways regarding this issue and the additional speed limit signs.

6 Matters Arising from Monxton Parish Council Item 62 of the previous minutes mentioned the alternate bin collection. The clerk explained that she had spoken to TVBC who had confirmed that this service was only relevant in some parts of the village, namely the high street which was due to routing of the vehicles. There have been mixed reports concerning this new service, the main issue is the storage of household waste for up to two weeks, especially in the warm weather. The remainder of the village will follow this new system between September and December. The Chairman told the council that she had received a letter from Mrs Byrne of Broad Road expressing her concern over the generalisation in previous minutes concerning the state of Broad Road. It was agreed that in future the minutes would be more specific to the site in question. Item 70.2 of the previous minutes concerned the state of the road near Prospect Farm. The clerk will contact Cllr Pat West to see if she has any more information on this. MATTERS BROUGHT BEFORE THE MEETING BY PARISH COUNCILLORS Mr Colbourne mentioned again the issue of flooding by Sunnybank. The clerk will contact HCC again. Mr Eaglesham mentioned the hedges on the right hand side of the road as you approach the traffic claming points as one leaves the village in the direction of Andover are very over grown. The clerk will contact HCC to get some action on this matter. The Rothsay Hotel was also mentioned as a new planning application has been filed. The clerk will contact Weyhill Parish council and TVBC concerning this and report back to the council. The clerk advised the meeting that she had received various s from Cllr Arnell regarding the unsightly parking of vehicles on plot 2, Broad Road. Cllr Arnell supports the Parish Council and believes that this issue needs to be addressed by TVBC. He is waiting for a response from the enforcement department. Monxton Parish Council is very pleased to have his support. The clerk will monitor the progress of this issue. The clerk also advised that HCC have sent around their Admissions to school policy for the year An article will be published in Monxton Matters. 7 New Village Hall Chairman Required At the recent Monxton and Amport Village Hall Annual General Meeting this week, Jennifer Richards announced that because of increasing family commitments she could no longer continue as Chairman of the Hall Management Committee. Under Jennifer s direction the fortunes of the Hall have been turned around. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jennifer for all her hard work over the last few years and her dedication to the village. We now have an enthusiastic band of helpers from both villages, who have worked hard putting on various events not only to raise funds to keep the Hall open, but also to provide entertainment for the residents of both Monxton and Amport. We are now looking for a new Chairman (Lady or Gentleman) to carry on the good work and to oversee the next phase of the improvements to the Hall, namely a new lighting system and a refurbishment of the Hall kitchen. HEADMASTERS ASSEMBLY At 7.30PM There is a small, but experienced and committed Hall Management Committee to help the new Chairman, so the main task of the new Chairman is to lead and co-ordinate the efforts of both the Committee and the band of volunteers. 3 COURSE SCHOOL DINNER & WINE AT 8.00PM We are sure that the new Chairman will find the position and associated activities both interesting and rewarding. 8 Monxton Gardens Gardens 165 people visited the 3 Monxton Gardens (Field House, Hutchens Cottage and White Gables) which were open on 28th and 29th May for the National Gardens Scheme. This raised for the NGS cancer, nursing and garden charities. Visitors included Brian and Gill Yates from Harestock. Gill's grandparents, father and uncle lived at Field House, then known as Elm Cottage, in the 1930's. Preserves were for sale in the Village Hall together with delicious cream teas, organised by Jean Wood, which raised for Monxton Church.
