1 AUSTIN AREA CAR CLUB S Visit our website: Information Station M AY, 2011 From the Prez April was full of swap meets with La Grave Field in Ft Worth the 16th/17th that I attended and added to my "had to have" pile. New Braunfels the 22nd/23rd which always seems to have the better prices and of course our fund raiser the PATE Swap Meet. By the time this Newsletter gets to your computer screen or into your hot hands the PATE Swap Meet will have come and gone. At this point I can only hope that it was an accident free weekend with fairly pleasant weather during the event and that y-all came home with less than you took up there or at least BETTER stuff than you took up there. There will be more about the Swap Meet in the May Newsletter. I went to the Williams Drive Sonic raid on Tuesday the 13th to find good people, a nice showing of cars and eager participants to visit the "evening get together on the 3rd Wednesday at What-aburger on DB Wood Road. At this time that date is in the future and I'll report on this more at the May meeting and in the May newsletter. 2 PAGE 2 SECRETARY MEETING MINUTES OPEN MEETING: President Pat Martin called the meeting to order. Birthday greetings were given to those who had a birthday In April and especially to Dennis Springer who was present at the meeting. NEW MEMBERS: No new members. One guest, Pat s Granddaughter Ashley. Last months minutes were accepted with a motion from Bob Ross and seconded by Dorothy Jones TREASURY REPORT: Read by Ruth Fredericksen. Motion to accept by Sue Aronson and seconded by Dorothy Jones. SUNSHINE REPORT: Suzan Aronson sent cards to Sarah Jane House due to her back ailment and Bruce Stokes who is still suffering from his back condition. PATE REPORT: Steve Koehn wants Pate workers to bring their Pate hat and the Pate handbook to work your shift. Call Steve for RV and worker passes. Members talked about better maps for Pate drivers. Steve will work on this. OLD BUSINESS: 156 cars at the Bluebonnet car show, great show. All proceeds go to The Boys and Girls Club. Thanks to all that helped put it together. Some members went to the Jerrell car show with Buck Jones adding to his First Place trophy collection. Lone Star roundup was great. Friday night cruise on South Congress was a lot of fun, many cars trucks motorcycles and a boat? Jonestown Oktoberfest car show in October. Mark your calendars. What A Burger still on 3rd Wed of the month, DB Wood Rd.6:pm By-laws and General Operating Procedures were the March meeting. NEW BUSINESS: Sun City charity car show May 7th. Rosanke trip fell through. There was talk of a mini-tour from Georgetown to Tres-Amigoes on Loop 360 in South Austin for the May meeting. If interested we'll leave from El-Patron parking 11:45 AM Sunday May 15th. An RSVP to is needed so we don't leave anyone behind. Our next club meeting will be at Tres Amigoes May 15th. This Trophy/Plaque was won on 4/9 at the Leander VFW Charity Car Show. This was for most Club participation (2 club members, Gary & Mary Lou Smith and Gary Westphall). It was a small show but limited to cars from 1979 and earlier and American Only.

6 I NFORMATION STATION PAGE 6 PATE 2011 The 39th Annual PATE Swap meet is now history. It appears to be another successful event. We had great participation from the club with 30 people signing up to work driving golf carts hauling parts. My sincere thanks to all who helped. Pat and I went up early on Monday before the meet to help with the setup. We stayed in our camper in spaces across the street from the club hospitality area. The weather was great this year... cool in the evenings for great sleeping and windy but dry with mild temperatures. We had rain and high winds as we were backing up Sunday morning to return home. Most of the club members had left for home by the time the storm hit. We were on IH 35 going through downtown Ft. Worth when the real storm hit the TMS with winds of 60+ MPH, heavy rain and hail. Over all swap meet revenue is about the same as last year, maybe down slightly. There was no car auction income this year and space rental revenue was down a bit this year because of some lost spaces in the area where the Texas Motor Speedway installed "Pit Stop Park". Pit Stop Park is a large area on the north side of Petty, with trees and grass near the main entrance to the stadium. There is a lifetime leasing fee of $1,000 and the "Season Race Day Rental" for one parking space is $750 for the three major races held each year. It is a nice area and the PATE Board of Directors is exploring creative ways to utilize it to our advantage. One idea was to make it an exclusive Car Coral area at higher rates for folks to show case cars that they have for sale. Another ideal was to establish a "Food Court" and move all the food vendors to the area. If you have an idea on how to use that area in a value added way, we me know and I will deliver the message at the next directors meeting in September. Other sources of revenue were up slightly. This year a new policy was started banning the use of gas powered scooters, motor bikes and etc. between 10 AM and 5PM. Only electric powered handicap carts approved for use inside federal buildings were allowed. Because of that it was a much quieter swap meet this year. The debate is ongoing if the increase in electric scooters is going to be a problem. I guess the jury is still out on the issue. People still brought their favorite homemade gas powered carts, scooters and what have you. There are some very creative folks that devise some very interesting modes of transportation. At 5 PM it was like someone kicked a fire ant mound and the streets were full of them. Thanks again to everyone who was able to help. Regards, Steve Koehn PATE Director
