Humbug! Every year at this time I ramp up my anti-holiday persona. I figure that there has to be some balance brought to all the happy, shiny people that appear in the last weeks of the calendar. I suppose some would say I didn t get the GI Joe I really wanted some childhood Christmas ago. I prefer to lament the season of good tidings and well wishes for the world as that a short season. Just imagine how happy the world would be if it was Christmas all year round (minus the music, though, that would increase both the homicide and suicide rate). We could all spend time arguing about the latest Starbucks cup, and that would be the worst thing anyone would have to think about. On a lighter note, the Turkey shoot went off with a bang (you saw what I did, there, right?). Since I was there and no one insisted on being the one to write an article about it, I shot some pics and will write some words myself. Maybe I should get a Twitter account and people could just shoot me a tweet every now and then, and I could assemble them into some sort of article. For all those attending the club Christmas Party, you will be treated by an appearance of Uncle Willy! He is driving out from Utah for a few days and will be at the Ford s Holiday Shindig. There s rumor of a CJ transmission job during that time, too. Purely coincidence, I assure you. Four hands do make shorter work of a task than two, though. Speaking of helping hands, why don t we work on each other s rigs? I know there are other rigs out there that are just begging to return to operational status and may only be an assist away from attaining that. There is a lot of experience and ideas contained in this group, and we could harness that power for good, not evil. It doesn t have to be a frame-off rebuild. Fixing that one nagging item can do a lot to reinvigorate interest in a vehicle. Think about it. For some balance of my own, I wish all peace and happiness and the hope that if it isn t here today, it will come. Happy ChristKwanzukkah Boxing! 4 Member Spotlight Darold Cooper I started my off-roading adventure in July of I was turning 50 and the Jeep was my midlife crisis solution LOL. Actually I had been an avid motorcyclist for 30 years but due to a bad accident, I decided to hang up the helmet. I needed something to replace motorcycling and had been bitten by the Jeep bug 10 years ago while vacationing in Hawaii. I rented a Jeep there and even though I never took it off road, fell in love with the Jeep. At the time I just didn t see how I could fit that activity into my current life style. Giving up riding motorcycles made room for the Jeep. I am originally from Missouri. I joined the Air Force in 1984 which brought me to California at Travis AFB. I have been here ever since. I am adventurous and love the outdoors so 4 Wheeling fits right in. When not off-roading, I like cycling both road and mountain, kayaking, hiking, camping etc. I currently work for the state but, only 3 years from retirement. Not sure what I will do but, more off-roading for sure! Thank you for accepting me into your club. I look forward to getting to know all of you and making/sharing memories on the trail. Rig Spotlight No pictures accompanied the submission by DC, but I suspect one of his vehicles may resemble a Jeep. I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility it may be a Barbie Jeep. Ed. By Doug Baker Turkey Shot! This year s Turkey Shoot was completely devoid of any Turkeys, unless you count some of the folks behind the trigger! No turkeys were harmed in the event, but there was a watermelon that took some critical hits. Awesome grubalicious stew and chili was provided by Kathy Medley, with a bonus treat of Merci s award-winning cornbread muffins! Andrea provided pumpkin spice cheesecake cups and Kahlua cake for anyone still looking for calories. The day started off with the Medley trailer heading up first to get things set up while a few others met at the Cameron Park McDonalds. Andrea and I arrived to see that Darold was already there, fueling up for the day s fun. El Jefe and Penny pulled in with their Ram looking ready for action. The earth tilted slightly on its axis when returning-to-the-club member Eric Heikila screeched to a halt. He had brought Erica and Austin and friend Randy with him. Karen, Nadia and Aidan rounded out our group, as the KBryant Krew was going to be a bit(lot) behind. We departed promptly at 8:59. Jefe was leading the way, promising to stay under 80, so DnA could keep up. Eric bemoaned the lack of predicted speed and headed out first. His eagerness to go got him tangled up with one of our beloved State Animals, the Road Raging Moron. Evidently, this guy was even more of a speed junkie than Eric, as he was so impatient to get by, that he passed Eric on the shoulder, side-swiped his bumper returning to the road, and brake-checking him once he got in front. After a short pursuit to exchange insurance information (surely), the Heikila party instead put in a report to CHP, as the individual was in too much of a hurry for niceties. Jefe and Penny had a front row seat for the incident, though they didn t know at the time it involved Eric. They stalwartly continued on, leading the rest of us to the site at Peavine Ridge Road. There we were greeted by Kathy and Merci, Chris and Shelby, and a few four legged members. Those of us who brought our own firearms spent some time target shooting before the main event, with some introduction to weapons for some people. When it came time for the competition to begin, it started with everyone firing a Beretta 92F 9mm at a swinging metal target, then moving to a scoped MSR aiming at a bullseye on the hill, and finally to shooting clays from a variety of shotguns. Notable standouts at the pistol station were Austin and Eric with 3 out of 8 for the men and Andrea with 2 out of 8 for the women. MSR heroes were Chris, Cody and me with a perfect 8 out of 8 in the center. Andrea and Shelby led the women with 7 out of 8 in the center. Pigeon killer extraordinaire were Austin and Shelby with 9 and 3 out of ten. Later arrivals included Cari, Josh and Cody, and the KBryant Krew. I think KBK came later to save everyone s ego, as I think I saw Jake shoulder firing a.50cal

5 Barrett., Lili was dual-wielding full-auto Glock 33s, and Grace was plinking at cans with a Street Sweeper. They let Kris have the BB gun. Scores for the winners were calculated by each hit of the pistol target being worth four points. Each bullseye center hit was worth four, with each ring further out being worth one less point each. Each competitor had the option of two practice shots before the ten clays were launched, with each hit worth four points one shot per clay. Men s Division Austin 3x4 + (5x4+3x3) + 9x4 = 77 Cody 2x4 + 8x4 + 7x4 = 68 Chris 1x4 + 8x4 + 8x4 = 68 Josh 1x4 + (7x4 + 1x3) + 7x4 = 63 Jefe 2x4 + (7x4 + 1x3) + 6x4 = 63 Doug 2x4 + 8x4 + 5x4 = 60 Randy 1x4 + (7x4 + 1x3) + 4x4 = 51 Darold 2x4 + (6x4 + 2x3) + 3x4 = 50 Eric 3x4 + (4x4 + 4x3) + 1x4 = 44 Women s Division Andrea 2x4 + (7x4 + 1x3) + 2x4 = 47 Shelby 0x4 + (7x4 + 1x3) + 3x4 = 43 Erica 0x4 + (6x4 +2x3) + 2x4 = 38 Kathy 1x4 + (5x4 + 3x3) + 0x4 = 33 Penny 0x4 + (2x4 + 2x3 + 2x2 + 1x1) + 0 = 19 The event concluded with half of the pot going to the Toy Run, and each division winner got half of the remainder. We conducted a brief cleanup of the area before saying our goodbyes and heading back down to the city. Well, I took a lot of pictures with my phone at the shoot. It would ve taken several pages to show them all. Unfortunately, my iphone is freaking out and hopefully the pictures will be in the next edition. Club Run Gold Country Toy Run and Christmas Party at the Ford s on Saturday, Dec 2nd. Somebody ll write an article, yes? January s Run will be the club s participation in Winter Fun Fest at the Nevada County Fairgrounds January. Come out and support and enjoy the event!
