Electro Technician, Hombrechtikon Destinations and Jobs: - Unload container in Agogo - Preparations to install the Genset in Abetifi - Information visit at Kwasi Fante Hospital, Afram Plains 13 th. Dec. Journey to Accra with KLM, departure in Zurich 0920, via Amsterdam Schiphol, Arrival in Accra 2010 UTC Joseph, Aminu und Adjei collected us after a warm welcome to the Hotel. The driver with the Agogo Hospital car was the good friend Mr. Atta. We drove to the Afia Beach Hotel, the place for the first night. After a late dinner we were ready ant tiered for the night. 14 th. Dec., Abetifi After a fine breakfast at 10:00 our Friends picked us up to load the car, shopping in town, collecting soda water from the Swiss club, journey to Abetifi with a short rest in Adasawase. Their EPMF has build up a new school with Ref Aisifiri. Via Nkaw- Nkaw, Mpraeso we have arrived in Abetifi, a place with a rich history for the Basel Mission. Begin of the19th. Century Ref. Ramseyer, a man from the Black Forrest in Germany came to this place to found the first mission station of the Basel Mission at the former Gold coast. Around 5:00 PM we has arrived there. After the checking in the rooms we met Ref. Ocloo, the GM of the Ramseyer University. He has invited us for a very late lunch. To install the Genset loaded in the expected container, we had to collect several measurements and facts. After an intensive briefing with Ref. Ocloo, all the needed data s were recorded. Wonder about the new Water treatment installation, installed from our friendly and competent American Friends. All installation on different places according their Information cost more then USD 1 Mio, without any real function and generate more risk for the drinking water. This is development aid the American way..! After a drink in town we went to bed, an early departure time was scheduled.

3 Departure early morning, Kwaku, André Joseph and Adjei Loading the car for the journey to Kwasi Fante 15 th. Dec. Kwasi Fante, Agogo After an early wake-up call at 05:00 AM the usual schedule, packing, loading the car trip to reach the first ferry to the Afram Plains. After a 1 hr. journey we were there. What a big surprise there.! Since 2 week a brand new ferry is operating, the loadingunloading is very simple now. The boarding can be done from both sides and it s operating from 08:00 AM from the Kwahu side. At 10:00 AM we reached Kwasi Fante, where we got a warm welcome by the sisters. We have checked all Solar panel, lying around, for their Function and we tuck all datas for further installations, a hard job by hot temperatures. After a short rest with a fine lunch we went to inspect the water supply system of the hospital. 3 boreholes are there, one on the ground belongs to the hospital is used for the Town community. The hospital must buy the own water. We are engaged to improve this situation. On a briefing with the sisters we check the priority of the next projects. We got the priority as follow: 1. Communication - Internet Access - Telephone internal- external 2. Power supply - Supply by Solar and National Grid, later as a option Genset 3. Water supply - Connection of the own borehole. - Solar- warm water boiler After a consultation we hand it over the gift from Switzerland, blood sugar measuring equipment, most useful, most welcome. After a warm passage we take our way to Agogo. The first part of the road from Kwasi Fante to Agogo is very bad and looks like a creek bed. After 25 km jolt and shacking drive we reached the new built 78 km long street, from the Afram Plains straight to Agogo. We reach there around 5:00 PM. We got rooms at the well-known Pentecost Guesthouse, where we have been many times before. Andrés room was complete overflowed from an untighten water pipe. So we decided to sleep in one room without swimming pool.

8 16 th. Dec. Lazy Sunday The expected container was not in yet so we decided to enjoy a lazy Sunday in Konongo at poolside. There we got a visit from Aminu, Joseph und Adjei, and, as a big surprise Isaac Appiah, our old friend. He is living and working in Konongo. Isaac is running a carpentry shop and doing a good business there. Around 5:00 PM we left back to Agogo We enjoy the Poolside On the way back Nice sunset The Harmattan coming up 17 th. Dec. In the morning the hospital driver picked us at the guesthouse. After an intensive handshaking we made the tour around the hospital to see our side. At the same time Joseph Hammond, Kwaku Bassinge and Adjei Fio Lassey, the HTU- staff has arrived from Konongo. The HTU has created their program according our schedule to be the same week in Agogo. An intensive program must be done as the theatre light the Laundry machine, the X-ray machine and others. Good news, in the evening they called us to change the accommodation side from the Pentecost Guesthouse to the well-known Ernest Peyer Guest House. It was much confortable for us. So the internal ways getting much shorter. On tour in the hospital together with Mr. Adoo (assistant chief engineer) and Mr. Aminu (local project leader) we went to the powerhouse to inspect all electrical equipment installed by us. Mr. Adoo told us about running problems with the new generator installed by us two Years ago. After 2 to 3 running hours the genset stop without clear reason. Mr. Adoo informed us about the service contract renewed by the hospital. The technical problems reported to the deliverer, but there is no fixed date to repair. An other problem was found by the power factor compensation. We decided to repair the problem later.

Dec Repair works together with HTU at the X-ray, repair operations table, operation light, power factor compensation, UPS- check Theatre, Project meeting with GM Alex Kesse, MSI MD Thomson and Chief Accountant Mr. George K. Dec. Repair Compensation, Detail planning High tension Projects, Visit Nurses Training Center NTC, Conditions of the kitchen (donated by Volketswil- Congregation), Meeting with Principal NTC (promised us total renovation Kitchen, Dining hall till February), we have got the opportunity to see all the training rooms for the nurses. At the time the school have 360 students. This big number of students needs also the right infrasructur. But the new Student home and school buildings from the Goverments are sill not complet.

Visit by Mike Fässler, writing postcards, Kumasi Markets (biggest market in Africa), return to Agogo. 21 st. Dec. Last day in Agogo.. Preparing material for Abetifi und Kwasi Fanti, Instruction for transformer station extension with Aminu und Mr. Addo, preparation for our assignment in February. After the luggage packing we left Agogo around 01:00 PM to Accra. Mr. Mafor (may God rest his soul), der Senior Driver brought us safely to the Afia Beach Hotel in Accra. On the way to Accra we met our earlier expected Container, better late then never

11 The earlier expected container 22. Dec. Last day in Ghana After the obligatory shopping of Cape Coast Pineapple we went to the Schwiizerhüsli for lunch. Christine served us Knoffli a Swiss speciality, probably the best to get in Afrika, together with a fine Chebbab. We intend to shop some groundnuts but there was non-in stock. Back at the Hotel we packed our luggage and scaled the suitcase we went to the airport for checking in. The flight was only half booked and so was enough space to get a confortable seat. The whole flight was very bumpy. Even me as a old airman can`t remember to such a bumpy and shaking flight. After the landing in Amsterdam Schiphol we had to hurry up due to the shot transfer time for the flight to Zurich. At the Gate we were the last for boarding. The approach in Zurich was again a really bumping tour, even worse as in Amsterdam. On time at 08:25 KL1953 has landed safely in Zurich. After the luggage claim we realized that not our entire luggage found the way from Amsterdam to Zurich. At the Lost Luggage shelter we had to fill several papers and lucky, we left the arrival hall. Simon, Stefan with Father and Beat Fell with daughter expected us there. All of them have been waiting for the Pineapple from Ghana. Simon our driver drove us first to Schwerzenbach, where André left the car. A short stopover with Esther, where we unload the ordered pineapple and the fried plantains we left home. Conclusion of the journey The main job, the unpacking of the container was not possible due the late clearing through Nana Dako, the responsible from the PCG. He is doing this job sins Years and he was never in time for. Mr. Aminu made it possible to clear the container out of the harbour an we are lucky to have the container in Agogo. We are lucky so we are able in February to unload the container We were able to prepare the mission for GSHT in February for Agogo, Abetifi and Kwasi Fante.
