2 This registration covers the piles only. Other items such as ground beams or Housedeck or Comdeck type slab foundations are to be dealt with separately or have their own Registered Detail. The central shaft of the helical pile is a 114.3mm diameter 6.3mm thick hot finished circular hollow section. The grade of steel is API-5CT-L80 with a minimum yield strength of 552 MPa. The helix plate geometries available are: 300 and 350 mm diameter - 12mm thick and 400, 450 and 500mm diameter - 15 mm thick. The steel grade used for the helical plates is S275 to BS EN The coupler is a circular rolled section with external diameter of 133.3mm and 8mm thick; the steel grade of the plate being S275 to BS EN The length of the coupler is typically 410mm long. Bolts are M20 grade 8.8 non preloaded bolts to EN ISO H022 Zinc Plated and three bolts per coupler are used to connect the pile shaft segments. Welds are specified following the procedures of British Standards (BS ). Grade C30 cementitious grout or concrete can be specified as a fill in the hollow section pile if required. A site investigation is to be carried out to determine the soil strata and design engineer to determine load bearing capacity of the soil and to design the piles in accordance with this. Factor of safety of 3 to be used to avoid need for site testing. Copies of calculations are to be lodged with Building Control so they can understand the design. Only Abbey Pynford approved installers who have been trained in the installation of Helical Piles to be used. The piles will generally carry compressive axial loads only. However, they may be designed to take tension and bending loads if required. Piles are to be designed for a minimum life of 60 years. The design engineer is to confirm. The soil needs to be assessed to determine its effect on pile corrosion and any additional corrosion protection required to be designed.
