1 NOTE FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR BETTER PERFORMANCE FROM LBS THIS YEAR! We are welcoming the year 2017 with joy in our heart! The year 2016 has been a rather successful year for LBS Bina Group, our sales revenue have reached the targeted RM1.2 billion. We could not have reached this target especially during the time when the market was experiencing a downturn without the support of people whose interests were closely linked to ours. I am very happy that we were able to reach our target; the year 2016 indeed was a year to be excited about. By the grace of my parents and amid the blessings and felicitations showered by kith and kin, I celebrated a memorable 60th birthday in October last year. On that day, I invited everybody to come and join me in merriment and in celebrating my entering into the golden years. That night, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People s Republic of China to Malaysia, His Excellency Huang Huikang officially launched my new book entitled. I presented a copy of the book to all the attended guests to show the significance I attached to my 60th birthday and to show my gratitude; more importantly, the book was a token of my sincerest thanks to all those people who have supported me and is presently helping me. The ancients said, At the age of 50, you will realise that while man proposes, God disposes. At the age of 60, you have learned to accept things around you and everything you hear about is agreeable. In these technologically advanced times when daily we are inundated with information and human relations have become complex, it behoves us to remain calm and use our discretion and the wisdom accumulated through countless generations of our ancestors to clearly differentiate between what is true and what is false, and between what is right and what is wrong. In 2016, as in the past, LBS Bina Group was recognised with a number of awards: March: International Alternative Investment Review (IAIR) Award March: StarProperty.my Award April: APPA Asia Pacific Property Awards June: The BrandLaureate Most Valuable Brand Award August: South East Asia Property Award (Malaysia) August: APEA Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award December: iproperty.com People s Choice Award All these awards have incentivised and motivated us to bring LBS to a greater level of excellence and to develop even more outstanding projects for our customers. Besides garnering various awards in 2016, LBS Bina in March also opened a new chapter in the history of Zhuhai International Racing Circuit. Witnessed by Chief Minister of Malacca YAB Datuk Wira Ir. Hj. Idris bin Hj. Idris Haron and Governor of Guangdong Province Zhu Xiaodan and other dignitaries, LBS launched the Malacca Cultural and Trade Centre in Zhuhai. The launch of this project has further strengthened friendly province-state relations. In November of the same year, I was invited to be a honorary advisor to the World Chinese Economic Summit which promotes greater economic cooperation and closer ties between various nations. As the Chairman of the Malaysia-Guangdong Chamber of Commerce Investment Promotion Association, I strongly urge local entrepreneurs to consider using business operations to actively coordinate with the One-Belt-One-Road strategy. LBS Bina has always been a strong supporter of various racing sports. The Group s enthusiasm for motor sports can be traced to the time when we took part in the upgrading and management of the China Zhuhai International Circuit. Recently, we saw the great potential in the Malaysian leg of the P1 AquaX Jet Ski Competition; we believe it is an excellent platform for preparing locals to take part in international competitions. We in the LBS Bina Group strongly believe and feel that trustworthiness, efficiency and responsibility are the elements that have made us an excellent enterprise so far and these attributes will continue to drive us forward. Here I would like to guarantee and affirm, in 2017 LBS Bina Group will develop more exciting projects, and in greater numbers. Together let us march towards the next bigger and higher summit of excellence! This comes after the Selangor state government successfully resolved the development s decade long issues and delivered on its commitment to revitalise the homes as well as transform Alam Perdana s emerging township as a whole. The Selangor state government, through Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor), will be collaborating with property developers LBS Bina Group Berhad (LBS) and Worldwide Holdings (Worldwide) who have stepped forward to revitalise and complete the vacant 203 double-storey terraced houses at Taman Alam Perdana s Arcadia. The positive response indicated the rakyat s confidence in both developers, LBS and Worldwide, as a result of the companies exemplary track record of delivering quality homes on time. 14 September 2016 LBS Bina Group Berhad (LBS) announced the disposal of MITCE to ML Global during press conference held on 14 September LBS is restructuring its construction division by injecting construction unit MITC Engineering Sdn Bhd (MITCE) into its 51.18%-owned subsidiary ML Global Bhd, aims to grow ML Global into one of the major construction arms in the country. LBS and ML Global managing director Tan Sri Lim Hock San said MITCE has tendered for RM639 million worth of jobs and is close to securing some deals. It has an order book of RM1.5 billion consisting of 62% from LBS and 38% from external parties. Formed in 2007, it has also completed RM1.15 billion worth of jobs. The proposed disposal is being undertaken as part of LBS s plan to streamline its construction businesses under ML Global by consolidating the resources of ML Global and MITCE for greater operational and financial efficiency. The combined construction businesses of LBS under ML Global will have better access to larger scale of business opportunities and provide ML Global with the ability and platform to tender for larger scale external construction works, which in turn is anticipated to improve its order book and earnings. 23 NEWS & EVENTS CONSIDER OBOR FRAMEWORK IN BUSINESS STRATEGIES, SAYS MGCIP PRESIDENT China s One Belt and One Road initiative an opportunity for greater cooperation and prosperity among entrepreneurs in Malaysia and China Commercial Banking where 7 out of 10 Malaysian businesses did not know the opportunities that China s OBOR initiative could bring. The study found only four per cent of businesses were fully aware and had started developing strategies in line with the OBOR framework. As a Malaysian, I believe we all play a role in helping the nation realise its full economic potential. The first step is for businesses to educate themselves about the OBOR framework and how they can use it to their advantage, explained Tan Sri Lim. It was a glamorous and joyous celebration with lively dinner party and many interesting performances that encouraged his guests to laugh, live and enjoy the evening with him.
