(817) AMA Gold Leader Club The Greater Southwest Aero Modelers, Inc. is a nonprofit organization. Membership is nondiscriminatory and open to anyone who agrees to abide by Club By-Laws. A condition of membership for insurance purposes is current affiliation with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Our flying field is located at 6903 Randol Mill Road, 1/4 mile east of exit 26 off of Loop 820 at N W Visitors are welcome whenever the gate is unlocked. Free flight training instruction is available to members from 6:00 PM to dusk on Monday and Wednesday while Daylight Savings Time is in effect. Regular Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM at the McDonalds Restaurant, 450 Grapevine Hwy, Hurst TX. The McDonalds is on the north side of Grapevine Hwy, about.1 mi north of Hurstview Dr. Next Meeting: Tuesday November 9, :30PM McDonalds 450 Grapevine Hwy Hurst President s Notes We are moving our meeting location! The McDonald s we have been using has been sold. Our provider has sold this location and has purchased other locations in Southlake. He has another location in Hurst on State Highway 26 (Grapevine Highway) that we can use. Chuck Rovell has previewed the site and found it may be even better for our meetings with more floor space for those model of the month entries. The new location is on SH26 and is just east of Hurstview s intersection. It is on the north side of SH26 and is easily accessible. The same deal goes as it has been; keep your meal tickets and turn them in to Chuck to aid in a donation check to Toys for Tots from McDonalds. See you at the meeting! The time will still be at 7:30 pm on the second Tuesday of the month. Thank you from all the officers for showing your confidence in us by nominating us for re-election. It is always nice to hear you are pleased with what we are doing. I think the club has crossed many bridges this past year and hopes are that the upcoming year will be better. The month of November brings our Food Drive fly-in. Please see the flyer and bring out those food items for the food bank. I know the people that have need appreciate your donations. Our club has always stepped forward to help others and I appreciate being part of it. Thank You! December is the month for Toys for Tots and it s fly-in. Be thinking about getting that toy for the donation box. We will be cooking for the event. I think I heard something about chili, too! The Christmas Party is coming on the 5 th of December. The tickets are going fast. Don t be left out! There will be plenty of food, fun and fellowship. The price of the evening is only $15.00 and that is cheap for La Hacienda Ranch food. Come out and enjoy. I hear word of some entertainment there as well! Keep the shiny side up and I will see you at the field! 3 September Secretary s Report The October 2010 business meeting was called to order by club president Tim Lovett at the McDonalds Restaurant at 769 W. Airport Freeway Hurst, TX The business meeting minutes of the September meeting as printed in the newsletter were approved. Field Report: Work day on Saturday (10/23/2010) will include the installation of a safety fence in the helicopter area, washing tables, and the repair of the back fence. Old Business: 2010 Christmas Banquet: Christmas Banquet tickets are on sale now for $15.00 each from any club officer, Lewie Moore, or Max Ficken. This year s banquet will be held at the La Hacienda restaurant on December 5 th from 7:00 P.M. till 8:30 P.M. There are a limited number of tickets, and tickets will not be sold at the door. Trash Can Usage: Reminder: Please put your crashed aircraft remains into the dumpster, and not into the trash cans. New Business: 2011 Texas Scale Qualifier: Next year s Texas Scale Qualifier event will be held at the GSWAM facility on June 18 th & 19 th. October 2010 Model of the Month: This month s Model of the Month award went to Dave Ek and his control line P-38 Lightning profile twin engine fighter. The aircraft sports two OS.15 engines for power.
