TANGI RC FLYERS ASSOCIATION FLYING FIELD SAFETY RULES Revision 9 Amended January 1 st, 2018 INTRODUCTION Everyone is hurt when a careless action causes an accident. Most modelers will react favorably and will comply with safety rules if he or she is given factual information. The attached sheets provide specific safety rules and requirements for safe flying. Follow these rules and you will save your hobby, save your plane, and maybe save someone from a serious injury. PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO FLY! The Field Safety Officer, other appointed safety personnel, or club members shall have the authority to enforce the rules herein. In most cases, a simple warning will remedy a situation. However, if a member deliberately refuses to comply with a specific safety rule, the Safety Officer or club member may report the facts to the club president or vice president. The incident then shall become club business for discussion and appropriate action at the next regular scheduled club meeting. 1. Current Tangi RC Membership Cards must be worn and be visible at all times during any flight operation or at anytime on the flight line. 2. All pilots shall be current AMA members and be registered with the FAA s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) program. These numbers ( AMA and FAA ) shall be legibly displayed on all aircraft owned by the member/pilot

3. Follow the agreed to rules as set forth under the September 17 th, 2015 agreement between the Hammond Airport Control Tower and Tangi RC. DO NOT FORGET TO CALL THE CONTROL AT LEAST 15 MINUITES PRIOR TO COMMENCING R/C FLIGHT AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF COMPLETION OF R/C FLIGHT OPERATIONS. 4. The official AMA Safety Code and all safety rules contained in the AMA Model Aircraft Regulations book shall be applicable to all flying activity at the field. 5. Engines started and operated within the pit area must be positioned to prevent exhaust oils from accumulating on other models, equipment or parked vehicles. NO GAS ENGINES OR ELECTRIC MOTORS SHALL BE ALLOWED TO BE OPERATED UNDER THE BREEZEWAY SHELTER. 6. When engines are run up in the pit area, keep bystanders away from the propeller arc. SPECTATORS ARE TO REMAIN BEHIND THE FENCE AT ALL TIMES. 7. A flyer shall not willfully and deliberately fly his or her model in a careless, reckless or dangerous manner. 8. Make every effort to avoid flying in the proximity of low flying full scale aircraft, and when necessary, maneuver your model aircraft to a position to avoid even a possible near flight to a full scale aircraft. All flyers must warn each other of approaching full scale aircraft in the area. A 400 FOOT ALTITUDE CEILING HAS BEEN SET AT THIS FIELD BY THE FAA. 9. When retrieving a model aircraft stranded in the landing area, be extremely cautious of approaching aircraft. Announce that you are On the Field so other pilots know your intentions. 10. Any pilot may declare an emergency (including dead stick) by voice. Once declared, he or she has the right-of-way over all other aircraft under power. There will be no take-offs or landings until the plane in distress has landed and the emergency is terminated.

11. Pilots who are taking off or landing shall have priority over others in the pattern. The pilot should announce to others when he or she is taking off or landing. 12. During normal field operation times, there shall not be more than 3 (THREE) aircraft flying at one time. Flight operations are allowed only from the designated pilot stations. Only one (1) aircraft per pilot station will be allowed unless performing formation flight with other pilots. Formation flying utilizing two or three pilots within a flight station must be announced prior to takeoff and the 3 (three) aircraft rule at one time still applies. 13. All student pilots shall not fly without an instructor to assist them. Student pilots must be signed off by an instructor before flying alone. 14. There will be no flight operation before 9 A.M. EXCEPT FOR SMALL AND PARK-FLYER TYPE AIRCRAFT. (ELECTRIC POWER ONLY UTILIZING NO MORE THAN A THREE CELL BATTERY). 15. NO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL ARE ALLOWED AT THE FLYING SITE. (NO EXCEPTIONS) This will result in an immediate termination from the club. 16. Direction of flight is determined by wind direction. 17. Club members are required to unlock the gate upon entry and to lock the gate on departure. Last person out locks the gate. The gate can remain open while at the field. 18. Deliberate flying behind the flight line and/or breezeway area is prohibited. 19. It is strongly recommended that members do not fly alone. You could be hurt and there would be no one to help you. 20. You must carry out everything you bring in to the field, including trash and broken plane parts. 21. You are responsible for any and all actions by yourself, your guests and your children. This includes damage to, property, including aircraft and equipment. Any question of value of goods damaged or destroyed may, in the event of dispute, be resolved by a committee appointed by the club president. 22. No pets are allowed at the flying field accept for permitted/licensed service animals.

23. BE AWARE OF THE NO FLIGHT ZONE AT THE NORTH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. ASK A MEMBER FOR SPECIFICS. 24. HIGH SPEED PASSES AND 3-D FLYING FLIGHTS SHALL BE PROHIBITED OVER THE RUNWAY WHEN OTHER AIRCRAFT ARE FLYING. AEROBATICS, AND 3D FLYING MUST STAY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED OVER THE RUNWAY WHILE OTHER AIRPLANES ARE FLYING. 25. Maximum engine size at the field shall be 150cc for any aircraft, and no turbine fuel burning jets are allowed. (Ducted fan jets are allowed) 26. Visitors who wish to fly here: A visitor may fly up to 3 times as a guest, and must be under the direct supervision of a current member and must have a current AMA and FAA (UAS) registration card 27. New members will have their gate key/code issued to an existing Sponsor member or club officer who will introduce the new member to our site, review gate protocol, perform the required demonstration flight (Rule 30) and review our rules before handing over their gate key/code. 28. Prior to being able to fly solo all new members will be required to demonstrate the following flying capabilities with a current Club Executive or Safety Officer: a) Make a proper takeoff according to wind direction b) Be able to fly a left to right and then a right to left hand flying pattern c) Make a proper landing according to wind direction 29. NO ONE will be allowed beyond the fence without a valid AMA membership card. a) If a parent is teaching a child to fly, he/she can be in the pilot box with the parent. Children must be under direct supervision at all times. 30. Maiden Flights must be announced to the Safety Officer and all members present. No other aircraft can be in the air while the maiden flight is in progress.

31. Safety Officers have the authority to inspect aircraft for flight worthiness and may ground the aircraft until changes are made. 32. ALL AIRCRAFT SHALL BE FLOWN WITHIN THE DESIGNATED BOUNDRIES OF THE FLYING FIELD. NO FIRST PERSON VIEW FLYING (UTILIZING CAMERAS AND SCREENS) WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE FIELD. ALL FLYING SHALL BE DONE USING LINE OF SITE. 33. ELECRTIC POWERED AIRCRAFT CANNOT BE ARMED UNDER THE SHED/BREEZWAY AND MUST BE ARMED OUTSIDE THE FENCE IN THE PIT AREA. ARMED MEANING HOOKING UP THE BATTERY. BATTERIES MUST ALSO BE REMOVED AND/OR DISARMED FROM THE PLANE PRIOR TO LEAVING THE PIT AREA AND COMING BACK INTO THE SHED/BREEZWAY AREA. 34. HELICOPTERS AND DRONES SHOULD NOT BE FLOWN AT THE SAME TIME AS FIXED WINGED AIRCRAFT.
