Membership is nondiscriminatory and open to anyone who agrees to abide by Club rules. A condition of membership for insurance purposes is current affiliation with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Our flying field is located on the North side of Randol Mill Road, 0.4 miles East of Highway 820 at N W Visitors are welcome whenever the gate is unlocked. Free flight training instruction is available to members from 6:00 PM to dusk on Monday and Wednesday while Daylight Savings Time is in effect. Regular Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the North Richland Hills Parks and Recreation Building, 6720 Northeast Loop 820, North Richland Hills, TX (on the corner of Rufe Snow and NE820). Next Meeting: November 8, :00PM Parks & Rec Building President s Corner Attendance during the last meeting (29 members) was less than the previous meeting (55 members), but a respectable turnout. Nominations were the hot topic and were accepted for the Club s 2006 officers. Like always, there were few nominations for the new officers. Most of the nominations are volunteers. The nominations are as follows: PRESI- DENT - Tim Lovett, VICE PRESIDENT - Lee Rice, SECRETARY Sonny Coleman, TREASURER James McGuiness and John Graham, TAIL SPINNER EDITOR Roy Baker. The elections will be held during the next meeting using paper ballots (bring a pencil). The ballots will have the names of the nominees and room for one write-in for each office. Election results will be announced prior to the meeting being adjourned. This has been said many times and many different ways but now is the time for you to influence the manner in which the Club will be governed in The members with the most power in the Club are the members who attend the meetings and vote. I have to wonder why when one complains about the way things are going in the club and when asked if he is interested in holding office or if he voted in the election most will respond, No? STRANGE I will never figure that one out. I guess things just happen that way. Three deserving individuals were honored and were designated as EMERITUS MEMBERS in GSWAM. They are: Lewis Brachey, John Law, and Frank Mobley. You will see them sitting in the shade just observing what is going on at the field. Stop and talk to these gentlemen as they are wise to the ways of the rc world and will set us novice pilots straight. The Christmas Party is scheduled for Sunday, 11 December, 6:00 PM 8:30 PM, at Main Street BBQ in Euless. Get your tickets ($12 per person) from Lawrence Harville, Tim Lovett, John Dale and John J Stanzak. As usual, there will be Christmas presents for the ones who have been good this year. Gary Stevens hosted a very successful IMAA Big Bird Fly-In on 22 October. The weather got to him Sunday but Saturday had a good showing, with 19 pilots and 22 aircraft. Those who were not there missed a great event with lots of good food. Good job Gary. The remainder of the Club year is going to be busy with various events. Scheduled are: The Food Drive Fly-In, 5 November, The Bi Plane Fly-In, 12 Nove m- ber, The Toys for Tots Fly-In, 3 December and the Club Christmas Party, 11 December. Regardless of weather the Food Drive, Toys for Tots, and the Christmas Party will go as scheduled. 3 October Meeting Minutes The October 2005 business meeting was called to order by Club President Walt Fisher at the North Richland Hills Community Center. The minutes of the September meeting as printed in the newsletter were approved. Field Report: Walt Fisher reported that rye grass has been spread over the entire runway in preparation for the winter flying season. The rogue armadillo that has been rooting up the North end of the runway is still doing so with apparent impunity. Treasurers Report: Club Treasurer James McGuiness reported that there were no major expenses this month. Old Business: 2005 Club Christmas Party Update: Lawrence Harville, who headed up the Christmas Party Committee, provided 3- possible locations to hold the 2005 GSWAM Christmas Party. The choices were; Mercado Juarez, Vance Godbey s and North Main BBQ. The club membership voted to return to the North Main BBQ location for the 2005 Christmas Party. New Business: Lifetime Emeritus Member Awards: For dedicated service to the Greater Southwest Aero Modelers Club year after year and for their enthusiasm and promotion of our hobby, Frank Mobley, William Brachey, and John Long were awarded the Lifetime Emeritus Member Award plaques. These gentlemen keep the spirit of GSW alive for us and future generations. Club BBQ Grill Replacement: A Food Catering Committee was created, headed up by Max Ficken, to determine which of the aging grills are to repaired or replaced. East/West Runway Addition Discussion: There was a discussion about adding an East/West runway for the days when the wind is blowing directly from the East or the West. Further discussions pertaining to the runway addition will be held during the November meeting Club Officer Nominations: Nominations for the 2006 club officers are as follows: President Tim Lovett Vice-President Lee Rice Secretary Sonny Coleman Treasurer James McGuiness and John Graham Newsletter Editor Roy Baker Southwest Aero Modeling Conference: On November 11 th & 12 th the modeling conference will be held at the Tarrant County Convention Center. Further discussions will be held at the November club meeting. Sonny Coleman - Secretary Sonny@flygsw.org I need to say something about safety. This is a hobby requiring safety first. There have been no accidents this month causing physical harm to others, however. It has been reported and discussed at the last meeting that there has been a lack of Activity Calls. Although the Calls are posted at the field and everyone should know what they are, I will review them in the order of priority. ON THE RUNWAY you or your plane is on the field and no one can land until you announce clear. DEAD STICK a plane is in the air and its engine is not running. Everyone shall give this plane priority for landing. LANDING preparing for a routine landing. TOUCH & GO practicing landing and immediately taking off. TAKING OFF preparing to taxi onto the runway for takeoff. When announcing TAKING OFF one must check to ensure a plane is not on final for landing before actually taxiing onto the runway. I have seen instances where one announces TAKING OFF and immediately taxies onto the runway forcing the plane on final to abort his landing. NOTE: To ensure everyone hears the announced activity calls, I encourage everyone to echo/ repeat the calls so pilots on the flight line know what is going on. When it is apparent that a plane is out of control please let others know of the situation. Heads Up or Out of Control are good calls for this. I almost forgot..once you get the 2006 AMA card you can get the 2006 GSWAM card. The hobby shops have the 2006 applications and cards. Locks at the field will be changed 31 January Keys will be provided with me m- bership. Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting. 4 Instructor report There were no new solos during October, but in September, I am thrilled to report that we have had 4 new pilots solo during the month. Chris Follmer, Luke Kilpatrick, Jacob Kilpatrick and Michael Baillargen have all completed basic training and successfully soloed. Congratulation to all. Max Food drive November 5th at the field. This will be a funfy with any type airplane welcome. Entry fee is canned or nonperishable food to be donated to the food bank. Come out and enjoy a day at the field and benefit a worthy cause. If the weather doesn't cooperate I will be at the field to collect food anyway.
