3 What an amazing year! If ever there was a time to work in central London it was 2012, when the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics passed right by our doorstep. We could look out of our windows on the 12th floor of Orion House and watch the Beach Volleyball tournament in progress, and the torch procession come down Charing Cross Road. Like the rest of London we were all, for one glorious summer, at the centre of the world stage. At Maitland too, we worked hard to occupy centre stage. While the financial markets were gripped with gloom and lethargy, and many simply took the summer off to watch the sport, we were out there, achieving great results for our clients and winning significant new ones. It was the year when some of the world s biggest companies, such as Vodafone and Standard Chartered, chose us to represent them, and we worked on many of the largest transactions, including UPS s offer for TNT Express and Random House s merger with Penguin. Outside the office we were busy too we weren t just sports spectators. The indefatigable Team Maitland conquered a gruelling Snowdonia triathlon while our sprint team put in a much improved performance in the Square Mile Relay. Rachel went one further and reached the summit of Mont Blanc in September. Our firm continued to expand with a series of new arrivals. Welcome to Andy, Julie, Kevin, Pandora, Rachael, and Tom. Maitland s families continued to grow as well. Congratulations to Julia and Nick, who tied the knot in March, Becky and Nigel, whose first son Oliver entered the world in May, and George and Kate, who were blessed with the arrival of Eliza in October. Thanks to everyone at Maitland who makes our firm the special place it is. And thank you as ever to Angus, our chairman and founder, who had the vision that still guides us today. And on to The world is not going to get any cosier I suspect. But as long as we work together, we will keep moving through it with the same spirit of determination, adventure and achievement. 01
