3 ITINERARY DAY 00/ SEPT (SAT/SUN) - SINGAPORE PORT MORESBY Depart Singapore for Port Moresby Flight: 28 Sept - Singapore / Port Moresby PX / (6h 35m) Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to hotel for rest. Afternoon city tour of Port Moresby, visits include national museum, national parliament house (outside view only), Bomana war cemetery and downtown Port Moresby. Accommodation: Stanley Hotel DAY SEPT (MON) - PORT MORESBY / KARAWARI Flight: 30 Sept - Port Moresby / Mt Hagen PX /0930 (1h 30m) Upon arrival, fly our charter flight to Karawari. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Karawari Lodge. The Karawari are most remote of the floodplains peoples. Many villages along the river and its smaller ributaries are barely a generation old, and the most recent settlement, Auwim, dates only from Although the historic Taylor-Black-Hagen-Sepik patrol came through the area in 1939, the region was still largely unknown to outsiders until the 1960 s. This afternoon visit to Kundiman Village for Sago Making Demonstrations. Sago is the Staple food for the river people. Accommodation: Karawari Lodge DAY OCT (TUE) - KARAWARI Karawari Lodge, poised on the ridge overlooking the river and jungle-clad Sepik Basin, is a world entirely unique. The real fascination here are the people and how they live with the land and how it molds their lives. They still live as they have for generations - rituals, singsings, story-telling, food gathering and preparation. With Karawari s carefully planned cultural program, visits in river boats are made to selected villages allowing one the opportunity to be able to observe village life and customs, participate in typical daily activities and see reenactments of traditional ceremonies. We will visit remote jungle waterways where we will find huge lichen and vine - festooned trees, masses of brilliant flame flowers, and a profusion of orchids. The soft dawn glimmers on these waterways and the vast plain erupts with a myriad of birds - the raucous jungle music. Dug-out canoes glide close by the river banks - stilt villages suddenly spring in sight along the flowing waters. Here we will see man and the environment as it has been for thousands of years. 4 ITINERARY DAY OCT (WED) - KARAWARI / LAKE MURRAY Transfer from to Karawari Airstrip for your charter flight to Lake Murray. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Lake Murray Lodge. Lake Murray is the largest lake in Papua New Guinea. During the wet season it spreads to occupy an area of about 2000 square kilometers. It has a population of about 5,000 people scattered in small villages, both on tiny islands and coastal areas of the lake. Western province is home to over 50% of New Guineas total bird population. Lake Murray is one of the best bird watching areas in the Province. In addition to a host of migratory birds, several birds of paradise species, pelicans, hornbills, eagles, parrots and numerous other birds have been sighted. This afternoon we go on a bird-watching tour. Accommodation: Lake Murray Lodge Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner DAY OCT (THURS) - LAKE MURRAY Today we will take you to the in-sight of this newly built location exposed now to the tourism market. You will spend time exploring the unique and undiscovered traditions and cultures of this newly renowned area in the Lake Murray area. Their life style is totally different to those of the highlands and the sepik regions. The tour will feature local grass skirt made out of grasses in the grasslands which the native women and girls wear and how traditional mats are woven from natural plants. These woven mats are used for sitting on, sleeping etc. Special note: The mats woven in the highlands (Mt. Hagen) are woven from Padana tree leaves and those woven in Lake Murray are woven from grasses. You will have the opportunity to learn grass skirt and mat weaving. Accommodation: Lake Murray Lodge DAY OCT (FRI) - LAKE MURRAY / MT HAGEN This morning you will leave Karawari lodge and transfer by river boat to Karawari Airstrip. You depart on your charter flight to Mt Hagen. Upon arrival at the Mt Hagen airport, you will be met and transferred to Rondon Ridge. This location promises the visitor eternal spring weather and magnificent views of the Hagen Range, Mount Giluwe, the Sepik Divide, the Baiyer Gap and the Wahgi Valley. Guests are accommodated in 12 units, each unit featuring 180 degree views, modern bathroom, electric blankets and continental quilts for the cool highland evenings. 5 ITINERARY DAY OCT (SAT) - MT HAGEN Today we will start our tour into the Waghi Valley. Until the Waghi was seen by Taylor and Leahy in 1933, it was generally thought that the mountains of Papua New Guinea were uninhabited wilderness. In contrast to this is the Waghi Valley which you will see today; it is a fertile area covered in flourishing tea and coffee plantations interspersed with picturesque village homesteads surrounded by traditional food gardens still tendered by women in the age old way. The spectacular surrounding mountains reach a peak of 4000 meters on the south side and 4509 meters on the north side. You ll be taken to the local market, the best market in Papua New Guinea. We then drive up to the Kuta Range passing villages food gardens. Stops are made on selected sights which will give you an excellent view of the township of Mt Hagen. Then drive through more villages along the Kuta Range and arrive at the foot of Mt. Olga and visit Pogla village and make a visit to a cultural center including visit to Polga and Avi villages. This afternoon, you ll witness the traditional courting ceremony (Karim Leg, Tanim Het) performance at one of the local villages. Accommodation: Rondon Ridge DAY OCT (SUN) - MT HAGEN This morning, we will feature a special private mini show, imitate the world famous Mt Hagen Cultural Festival (Show), where ethnic groups from around Papua New Guinea come together in this one central location to perform their respective cultures and traditions to the beat of their kundu drums and out class one another. The area is also famed for its coffee, and its coffee and tea plantations have brought rapid changes to the local lifestyle. This afternoon we visit a coffee plantation to learn the intricacies behind the major local trade, and sample its delicate and bold flavors. Accommodation: Rondon Ridge DAY OCT (MON) - MT HAGEN PORT MORESBY SINGAPORE This morning we will leave the lodge and transfer to Mt. Hagen Airport for your Air Niugini flight to Port Moresby.
